Footage Notes
I have the complete panel without gaps, with many thanks to Candygramme who sent me her full recording. There were about 20 seconds where her footage had the only available coverage, so if not for her we would have had a gap of unknown length instead of a full panel. Her video is no longer publicly available as far as I'm aware.
She was in an extremely difficult position to film from, so I often chose video footage that was closer to the front, but I used nearly her entire audio in addition to about 7.25 minutes of her video. It's such a huge benefit to have one seamless, good quality audio for an entire panel! You may still notice some small audio segments brought in from other videos to make it easier to hear fan comments from other areas of the audience.
My other two main sources can also be seen in the comparison screen shots below: caithream had some beautiful footage and I used most of what she had available (13% of the final edit) and rsrvedMom had some great close-up footage (67% of the final edit).
What's Next?
A J2 video, finally! We'll be leaving 2008 and entering 2009, starting with the LA convention in March. There will be four videos in the following order: the J2 breakfast, the solo Jensen panel, the solo Jared panel, and the main J2 panel.
For the breakfast, Candygramme has once again come to our rescue with a full-panel recording that is no longer publicly available to the best of my knowledge. She has about 7 minutes' worth of coverage that I didn't find in any other videos and her video quality is far better than anything else I saw.
The main panels will be more disappointing because all the available video footage is lower quality, short clips. I'm still working through this to figure out exactly how much panel coverage I have. However, I did find some audio-only files that cover a good portion of these panels (about 72 minutes) and have decent sound. I plan to use those to help fill in sections that don't have video coverage. This is what I know so far:
Jensen's panel will have one gap. I can fill in 70 seconds of that gap with the audio file, but we're still missing a fan's question and the beginning of Jensen's answer.
Jared's panel has a LOT of gaps in the video footage, but the audio files help fill most of that in. We'll still have one gap where we miss part of his answer to one question. Thank goodness for those audio files, because otherwise this video would have been a disordered mess without any way to accurately sequence the disconnected clips.
I haven't yet started syncing the J2 footage, but there will definitely be gaps in the video footage. I don't yet know how many gaps there are and whether the audio files will help fill them in or not. Since the J2 panels are more chaotic, plus there's often silent communication between them such as facial expressions and gestures, I expect any audio-only sections will be more difficult to decipher than they are in the solo panels.
Despite the frustrating gaps and the low-quality footage for the main panels, I'm still excited that my end results should be much more coherent than what the fandom currently has available.
By the time I'm ready to announce the J2 breakfast video, I should have the main panels fully synced and I'll be able to give better specifics as to how much coverage we have and how many gaps.
The J2 breakfast will be about 32 minutes long, so I hope to have it ready in another 3 weeks.

Sorry anon 🫂, I got this far and then I couldn't motivate myself to take it further after several months. So, I'm just going to give you the sketch and call it here instead of leaving you hanging any longer.
I was envisioning an early morning smoking session in a vintage (by today's standard) style motel room. Dean was going to wear a tank top and jeans. Sam shirtless in jeans. There's supposed to be a refrigerator behind Dean. Sam was going to have a picture and bed/side table to the left of him.
The vision was there, but the follow through was not.😔

One Last Subtitle Poll for My Enhanced Con Videos

If you use the subtitles on my videos at all, please vote in the following poll to decide their future format. YouTube has fixed the issue with uploading color-coded subtitles so I’m ready to put this up for a final vote, make a decision, and move forward. If you want more details on why I’m not just sticking with my original format, you can find that in this earlier post.
If there’s a strong majority, I’ll go with that. If the results are more split, I’ll try to choose the one I think is the best compromise. That may not be the one with the highest # of votes. If you’re comfortable leaving comments, they would be very welcome. Polls can be ambiguous if people select (or avoid) options for different reasons than I think they do. YouTube only permits 4 options on polls, so I can’t offer more nuanced choices.
I’m running a parallel poll on YouTube, but I wanted to put one here too for people without YouTube accounts. If you see both polls, then for the sake of “science” please vote “No Preference” on one of them and your real choice on the other.

Hideous WHAT Shirts? (Subtitling Help)
Can anyone tell what word she's saying? The fan is repeating something her 7-year-old daughter said, and for context this video was recorded in June 2008. (Even though it's Jared and Jim on stage, I think she's most likely referring to Sam and Dean.)
I'm afraid that if she's talking about a specific type of shirt (aside from hideous), and if I just show a couple random screen shots of them wearing shirts, my screen shots might be completely irrelevant.
I cut it off to make it easier to listen repeatedly to the part in question, but after the clip she goes on to say that her daughter thinks Sam made their shirts out of the hotel curtains. 😂
In the process of trying to Google what I thought I was hearing, I learned: 1) Justin Bieber has a sister named Hailey, 2) she's a model, and 3) she's worn some shirts people consider ugly. Since she would have been about 11 years old at the time of this convention, this was not remotely helpful to me. 🤣

New Enhanced Edition - April 2008 EyeCon - Solo Jared Panel

Here's my newest video! This was from the April 2008 EyeCon convention. There was another one in September 2008 that I plan to get to in the near future.
As I mentioned in my last post, there were 22 sources with 99(!) videos and a total of 6 hours' worth of footage. My final edit includes footage from 12 of those sources. Even if I didn't include them in my final edit, I listened to all the videos to try to get my subtitles as accurate as possible. The three sources that I used the most footage from are shown below and every source that ended up in my final edit is listed in my video description.

I also owe a huge thanks to @arwenadreamer here on Tumblr who so kindly answered a private message requesting German subtitling help for a section near the end of this video! This was one of my personal favorite parts of the video.
As always, much thanks is due to @kirathehyrulian for her awesome playlists. Her video-finding skills are incredible and her chronological sequencing of the video clips always saves me a lot of time on syncing up the footage because I don't have to start from scratch to figure out how all the little clips fit together. This is a big time saver on every video, but the amount of time it saved me in trying to sync up 99 different video clips from this particular panel was incalculable!
What's Next?
Next up is the June 2008 Dallas convention. Jensen had to cancel his appearance because he was filming My Bloody Valentine 3D, but Jared was able to attend. There will be two videos: a Brunch with both Jared and Jim Beaver and a Main Panel with just Jared.
The coverage from this convention isn't the greatest. There will be gaps and the video quality is pretty low, but I hope the final result will be more watchable than what we have available today.
For the brunch, I have 29.5 minutes' worth of the panel covered with one gap of unknown length about two-thirds in. I think the gap is pretty short, but I can't be certain.
For the main panel, I have exactly 54 minutes' worth of the panel covered with 5 gaps of unknown length. That includes a gap at the beginning before the first video starts, because Jared is already seated on stage and making general conversation with the fans before he opens it up for questions. I think 2 of the other gaps are very short and the other 2 definitely missed at least parts of the questions and answers.
So it could be worse, but a gap of any length always frustrates me! The fan reports I saw from this convention weren't very detailed or sequential, so I don't think I'll be able to fill in the gaps with any static images and notes like I did for Jared's solo LA 2008 video a few months ago.

I'm upscaling the videos when possible and making other visual improvements, adding extra content to clarify various references, and adding human-generated, color-coded subtitles so you can better understand the sometimes-chaotic audio. The subtitles can be auto-translated to other languages via YouTube.
My goal is to publish the best, most complete, and most watchable versions of these older convention panels yet seen, but this is only possible thanks to the fans who captured the footage in the first place and were generous enough to share it with other fans. New Enhanced Edition - CHICON 2013 - Main J2 Panel

My newest video is up! I'm really excited to share this one because it includes over 33 minutes of footage that I believe has not been publicly available for over 10 years.
This is with huge thanks to AgtSpooky who sent me her great, full-length video. Her video never made it onto YouTube as best I could find and her share link has been dead for over 10 years. The other videos currently available only covered about half the panel.
The footage unique to AgtSpooky's video will be marked with a small * in the top-left corner of the sidebar.
Most of the footage I used came from AgtSpooky, but I used small bits of other sources also. My full credits are in the video description.

What's Next?
This concludes my temporary detour to 2013 and I've resumed my chronological progress through 2008. The next convention on the list is EyeCon from April 2008 in Orlando. (There was a second EyeCon panel in September 2008 which I also plan to get to, but this is the first one from April.)
EyeCon will only have one video, a 63-minute solo panel with Jared. With huge thanks to these playlists by kirathehyrulian on YouTube, I have an enormous amount of footage. By the time I'd finished collecting videos from all the sources she had found, I counted 99 videos from 22 sources adding up to over 6 hours of footage! It's a rather overwhelming amount, but I'd much rather have too much than too little. I'm just tackling it one small section at a time and it's going fine, if slowly.
All this footage is already public, but if any of you did what I did when I first started watching convention videos and you relied primarily on the wiki convention pages with the assumption that the fandom was diligently collecting all known videos there, you may not have seen anywhere near the entire panel. Surprisingly few video links from this panel ended up on the wiki. I think it only has somewhere between 25% to 50% of it.
Because of how much footage there is for me to process, this one will probably take longer than my typical 6-week turnaround time for an hour-long video. I'm aiming for 7 weeks, but we'll have to see how things go.
Screen Shots
AgtSpooky's footage already looked good and my attempts at upscaling it did not improve it, nor did I think it needed any color adjustments, so I just left it as-is. The only thing I did add was a mild stabilization. I use that on every video to help reduce some of the smaller jitters and shakes that are common in convention videos. It does make a pretty big difference, but you're not likely to notice it unless you watch the original vs modified videos side-by-side.
So these are just some screen shots from the portions of the video that were unique to AgtSpooky.

Agreed! The Internet Archive has been a great resource for my own project. I've found lost photos, blog posts, and even convention video clips on rare occasions. It's also helped me track down original sources to verify authenticity.
It's especially helpful for a fandom like SPN that's been around for two decades. So many things have been lost that newer fans like me never even had the chance to see because accounts were deleted or the sites hosting the content were shut down. Sometimes we get lucky and find some of those lost things on the Wayback Machine. Newer fandoms will be in the same boat before they know it.
I get twitchy whenever I go to a site and I'm faced with "First Name" and "Last Name" fields. According to this page, you don't have to use your real name. You can use an alias if you have privacy concerns. You just need to use a real e-mail address that belongs to you, and you can only use one. Here's a screen shot from that page:

A Note About Embedded Videos in the Sidebar
This video has more embedded videos in the sidebar than what I normally like to use. There were several things for which I felt like a static image wasn't sufficient to demonstrate what was being discussed because you really couldn't tell what was going on without the motion. (To be honest, the very first embedded video probably would have worked ok as two static images but I liked the clip too much! I thought the others were necessary, though.)
I don't know how people feel about these when I insert them, but I'm sure they must be annoying to at least some people who aren't interested in the sidebar because movement is more distracting to the eye than static images. That is something I do very much try to keep in mind when choosing whether or not to embed a video, so I just wanted to mention that I don't plan to start going hog wild with them in the future. I hope the larger quantity in this video will remain the exception.
What's Next?
The main J2 CHICON 2013 panel, of course. 😀 The main panel is 65 minutes long, so it will likely take me at least 6 weeks to finish at my typical pace.

As you can see, I didn't improve much on AgtSpooky's original video. I mainly just lightened it up a tiny bit and added some stabilization. However, compare this to the second set of images below which is the video people have most likely watched.
The below footage was the only full video of this panel I found on YouTube. Even though the quality isn't as good, I'm so grateful for it. CHICON 2025 - J2 Gold Panel - Videos went up a few hours ago!
I had nearly given up on seeing much footage from the Gold panel, but this looks like close to all of it! Please give them some love on YouTube so they know how much we appreciate it.
I don't know if they recorded the main panel or any others. If so, they haven't published it yet. Most people have probably seen the below videos already, but the majority of the original links of the main panel are dead by now because people re-uploaded a private video that was sent by Creation after the StageIt stream went terribly wrong. I guess Creation was vigilant about finding them and getting them pulled. But one person did record in person, and those videos are still up. They had audience heads directly in front of them so they mostly just recorded the screen. This means it looks similar to the StageIt version if you already managed to catch that before it was taken down. But this is what's still out there.

Jared's Mysterious Utterance - A movie quote maybe? (Subtitling help request.)
Edit: With thanks to ohheyguyss, it looks like he's saying "[something] just sleep when you can [maybe something]". The first part is up for debate -- I hear "Gotta" (or possibly "Can't you") and they hear "Tsk". And I'm on the fence about whether there's a "then" at the end. So feel free to chime in if you have opinions. 😂

Can anyone make heads or tails of what Jared said in the portion I subtitled as "[inaudible]"? I thought maybe it was a movie or TV quote, or some other type of quote, because it sounds to me like he's mimicking a British accent.
For context, this was at CHICON in October 2013. Jared's first son is 19 months old and Jensen's first daughter is 5 months old, so they're still adjusting to the whole fatherhood business.
People in the audience seemed to get it, so hopefully it's a super obvious reference that I just don't recognize?
I'm hearing Jared laugh "God," then "Just sleep when you can." At "can," he smile-laughs, raises his eyebrows, and looks at Jensen. I not getting anything else from Jared till he says "Yeah," after Jensen's "Yeah."

I have my newest video up, the Main J2 Panel from LACON 2008! 78% of the video and 99% of the audio came from the awesome video recorded and sent to me by Candygramme. The rest of my sources are credited in my video description.
Candygramme's video isn't on YouTube to the best of my knowledge. It has over 51 seconds of footage not found anywhere else plus 8.5 minutes of coverage where her video is the only one with both Jared and Jensen in the frame. (They're both in the frame for most of the rest of the video too. The panel had a lot of fun banter between them. It's not at all the same if you can't see both of them reacting to each other!)
What's Next?
That's my last video from LA 2008. I'll be coming back to 2008 soon, but first I'm going to take a detour to Chicago 2013. Why on earth would I do that? Because AgtSpooky unearthed some videos she recorded there and they're awesome! The main J2 panel has very little footage currently available online. If I did my math correctly, her video has 33.5 minutes(!!) of footage not found anywhere else.
I'm super excited about this and I want to get it out there sooner rather than later. I'm sure a lot of people only ever saw half of this panel either because they're a newer fan like me or because they just never ran across AgtSooky's file share links back when they still worked. There are still a couple gaps, but I think they're very short and only one of them happens before the end of the panel. The second gap is during the banner signing. I have a little under 65 minutes of coverage from the main panel.
I plan to do the breakfast video first, then I'll do the main panel. There was already a full breakfast video out there, but AgtSpooky's wasn't on YouTube and her video is much less blurry so I was really happy about that one too. It won't have any new footage you haven't seen, but it will look nicer.
Once I get through CHICON 2013, my intent is to tackle the April 2008 EyeCon event that Jared attended in Orlando and continue to work through 2008 chronologically from there -- unless I get another unexpected surprise that I think the world needs to see immediately. 😂

I can't figure out the movie(?) he says after Lawrence of Arabia. This video was recorded in March 2008 at LACON so it has to have been something known by then. He implies that he's referring to "great movies and classic movies", so I don't think it's an obscure example, I'm just not much of a movie watcher.
Things I've considered but couldn't convince myself made sense:
The Wanting (This is what it sounded like the most to my ears, but in the context of "great movies and classic movies", I couldn't find anything that seemed relevant.)
The Haunting (This might fit the context better, but I can't convince myself he's saying Haunting because I think there's definitely a 'wa' sound in there like in "won" or "one". Unless he stumbled over the word and accidentally reversed the vowel sounds, pronouncing it huanting? Which actually does sound a lot like what he's saying.)
"the one thing" (This was a grasping-at-straws interpretation, but it doesn't really sound like that to me. My theory behind this was that maybe he only listed one specific movie and then changed to being non-specific such as "I can say this thing or that thing or the one thing or the other thing".)
It might also be in another language, or a name more common in other countries? I tried looking for titles with "Juan" for example.
I also read long lists of two-word movie titles starting with "The"... after which point I decided I'd probably put more effort into this than it really warrants. 😂 And maybe the first syllable isn't even actually "The", but that's all I can hear.
If the consensus is that he probably just misspoke the word "haunting" or something like that, I'll just leave it as [inaudible] and not put anything in the sidebar for it since I don't feel like we can be very confident. But I thought maybe there's something I'm missing due to lack of knowledge that would seem obvious to someone else and would make everything make sense. It wouldn't be the first time!
Whether you have some miraculous answer or just quietly listen and shake your head in perplexed commiseration, I appreciate you all for letting me occasionally drag you into my subtitling madness. 💗💙 (On the bright side, the audio for this panel was actually pretty good and most of it has been easy to subtitle. It was a breath of fresh air after that breakfast video!)
