Ayato headcanons for Day 4 of Kirishima Week:
- Ayato once slips on the drawing of bunnies that his sister had spent hours on, ripping it in two. Noticing her son all teary-eyed at the thought of his onee-chan being mad at him, Hikari helps him tape it back together (and then suggests he draws one for Touka too - which he does with a nod).
When Touka returns home with Arata a little while later, Ayato presents the two drawings - her freshly taped one along with his messily drawn one, shuffling nervously in place. It doesn’t take much of an explanation and Touka seems to understand fairly quickly, patting her brother on the shoulder with a smile and thanking him for the drawing. That night Ayato worries if she was really satisfied with his apology gift, but his fears are allayed when Touka spends the next week proudly showing off his drawing to their neighbours.
- Hinami once tried parting Ayato’s hair so that it covered one of his eyes and matched Touka’s hairstyle. She quickly set it back with a laugh though, commenting, as always, on how he really was like his older sister (in looks, kagune and temperament).
- Ayato used to be reluctant to talk about his older sister and their past and even though she was already aware of some of it, Hinami didn’t really want to pry. However, every once in a while, when she would hear news about :re cafe from Banjou, she’d leave him a little note in his room. It wasn’t anything too difficult for him to read, (she was still teaching him some of the harder words she’d find in her novels, and about the joys of reading, just as onii-chan had once done for her), but it gave him an update on Touka’s well-being. Not to mention she’d notice that it seemed to lift some of his worries and how, as a result, he’d be a bit gentler in nature the following few days.
- The first thought that comes to Ayato’s mind upon finding out that Touka’s child - his own niece or nephew - is to be born during the last week of December is that they will surely have an enormous love of reading. His reasoning? Their projected date of birth is situated right between those of two of the biggest bookworms in his older sister’s life - Kaneki and their father, Arata. So, on his next trip to the surface, he makes sure to pick up a picture book (about happy and cute bunnies - the kid was a Kirishima too!) to bring back with him.
- Ayato is calmer than even he himself had expected when he learns about Touka’s impromptu marriage of sorts with Kaneki. The one he finds to be the most affected (and emotional) is Yomo (who has still not revealed his relation to them although both he and Touka are aware already - his kagune, which they had both seen, so similar to their own, a give away).
