An Unavoidable Calling || Kitty & Alex
The last thing she thought that the older woman would do was fuss over her, but she sees the urge to in her eyes. Sees her wanting to reach out and take the pain away. All with a look, and knowing someone this well without knowing really much about them at all was terrifying. She shrugs it off, not meeting her eyes when she asks whatâs been done. âNothinâ that wonât heal up good and well.â She doesnât move away though, letting the vampire stay close.Â
The laugh doesnât fit the mood, doesnât fit into the room and Alexâs eyes come up in confusion. At her words a bitter huff of air falls past her lips. âNo sex is worth this.â She sighs dropping her eyes from Kittyâs. She notices her neck then. âDid she do this?â Her eyes snap back to meet the vampireâs. She hadnât been angry before, in some way she deserved it, but Kitty had nothing to do with this.Â
Kitty knew that Alex was going to play the injury off as nothing, but it didnât stop the concern from creeping in. There was something in the wolfâs eyes as she looked away-- hesitance? Fear? -- she couldnât quite tell, but whatever it was, it only seemed to make her more uneasy. Alexâs remark only added fuel to the fire. Of course it wasnât worth it, she reminded herself. It was stupid of her to say, considering it had almost gotten them both killed whilst Lucia and Jo wandered off without a single mark between them.
Usually Kitty basked in attention, but the mention of the burn on her neck she stepped back a little, clearly embarrassed by the angry red handprint wrapped around her skin. âDonât fuss me,â She mumbled. For once, clever words seemed to evade her. âMy big mouth, getting me into trouble again.â After a moment of coming to terms with her own appearance, she moved back, taking one of the detectiveâs hands in her own. It was her go to when she was nervous, although it was a shame that the exact thing that she had been trying to run from had so quickly become her safety blanket. âI was ashamed,â she admitted quietly, âAnd Iâm ashamed now. I didnât even have the power to come and see if you were alive.â
An Unavoidable Calling || Kitty & Alex
Alex hadnât bothered going to Kitty after Lucia had left her a bleeding mess in her own home. She should have know better than t tempt the demon, and even more so than to stand her ground when the demon came knocking, but who was she if not stubborn. Sheâc cleaned herself up a bit, but had left the mess in her entrance to her house. Sure sheâd thought about going to her, abut telling her what had happened, but the ball of anxiety winding itself in her chest stopped her. Dd she just fuck things up with her too. Sheâd already done well and god to destroy a friendship that spanned half her life here in Crescent hills, and a possible one with Jo. She wasnât sure she could stomach a bad reaction from the vampire.Â
Itâs about the time that she emptied the second bottle of whiskey that she starts thinking fuck it, that she might go to the vampire anyways, when  knock sounds on the door. She sighs, least it wasnât the demon again, unless sheâd decided to knock this time. She pulls the door open ready to tell whoever is standing on the other side that she didnât want to be bothered when the words fall short. âKitty.. hey.â She doesnât know what else to say so steps aside to let her in.Â
The first thing she noticed was the shades of purple planted like dark kisses against the soft skin of the detectiveâs face. Then she saw the mess of the entryway. It seemed that Lucia hadnât been bluffing at all. Kitty frowned as she stepped inside, already intent on fussing the woman. Instead of moving past her like she usually would, she stepped closer, pushing the hair from the wolfâs face to get a closer look at the bruises. âOh, my sweet little detective, what on earth has she done to you?â There was definitely something wrong with her-- sheâd never usually speak so gently with such concern. Her stomach flipped at the thought of Alex battling it out with the demon. She didnât think sheâd be so affected by it until she saw the damage for herself.
Her own body ached with the fatigue and the wounds sheâd been given, as well as the odd feeling in her heart as she looked into Alexâs eyes. Even under the bruises, the tiredness, and the alcohol, she still found a way to look beautiful. Kitty sighed, then punctuated the silence with a laugh. âI hope the sex was worth it.â It wasnât really the time to joke, but the anxiousness inside her swelled until a poor attempt at humour was the only way to quell the feeling. She stroked Alexâs cheek, giving her a soft smile, and hoped that the words she needed to say would come with time.
An Unavoidable Calling || Kitty & Alex
Kitty had been so preoccupied with the fragility of everyone elseâs hearts that sheâd completely been ignoring the call of her own. How did she feel? She couldnât talk to Alex until sheâd decided. Theyâd both been avoiding the subject ever since they had realized that they felt something more than just lust for each other. The talk at the ball was still very fresh in her mind. She was so close to saying it then-- so why couldnât she? She hadnât quite realized it at the time, she supposed, even if she knew she had felt it. It was a new feeling, and a terrifying one at that. Whether it was love or not she had no idea, but it was something, and she felt like if she didnât say something soon she might explode.
But before all of that, she needed to know that she was alive. Lucia had left her in some kind of state by the sounds of it, and sheâd spend most of the day hoping that she was fine and the demon had just been trying to scare her. Kitty had only been to Alexâs house a handful of times-- usually, Â it was the detective that showed up at her door-- and strangely enough the vampire found herself feeling nervous for the first time in at least a century. After taking a deep breath that she didnât really need, she stepped forward and knocked.
jesus is risen, it's no surprise // even he would martyr his mama to ride to hell between those thighs
Kitty was a nice lady but she never seemed to understand Rachelâs predicament. Her aunt was an alcoholic not a stuntman but her auntâs alcoholism got to be dangerous sometimes. In the beginning of her days of living with the woman Rachel had gone to bed early one night and ended up getting a call from the hospital saying her aunt had gotten alcohol poisoning so it was impossible for her to leave her aunt,âI just canât.â She stated. It had been a very, very long time since Rachel had a night to herself.
The vampire leaned forward to rest on her desk, rubbing her temples. Humans were confusing at the best of times, but this was something else. Freedom was Kittyâs favourite thing about life-- without it, what was the point? Why would anyone give that up for someone who clearly had no concept of responsibility? âHave you tried communicating this to her?â She asked, âAlthough, sheâll die from it either way, whether you intervene or not.â Taking a moment to consider what sheâd just said, she frowned. Rachel wouldnât like that, she was sure, but it was the truth. She let out a sigh. âTomorrow, then. Consider this: you bring her to me, and Iâll watch over her. My driver can take her home. Itâll give you a chance to get some rest, at least.â Was she being helpful for once? Her inner critic was having a field day. She had to keep track of hundreds of drunks-- one more wouldnât hurt, surely.
Joceline rolled her eyes, âWhat if I do? Did you come here to tell me what I should do to?â She sighed, running a hand through her hair. âLook, Iâm sorry for acting the way I did. Iâm sorry I slept with someone you are interested in. Iâm sorry for starting all this shit. And Iâm sorry that I can help but love a complete psycho.â She wasnât really apologizing to Kitty, though it seemed that way. It was more towards herself. âThat is the most deceptive idiom, by the way.â
âNot at all.â She said calmly, letting it go, âYou can do as you please. Obviously youâre very fond of her, and as long as it doesnât concern me again, I donât care what the two of you get up to.â She listened to the apology-- as odd as it was-- and offered a small smile. âYou donât need to apologize to me, and for all itâs worth, Alex can decide to share her bed with whoever she chooses. As for the idiom, what would you prefer?â There was laughter in her voice as she smirked, âTaste of the forbidden fruit, perhaps?â
âRight.â Catherine says with a nod, again not biting on anything. âMost of the time, yes, I can.â She says with a nods. âWhen I do take time away though who I am with someone.âÂ
âOh?â She raised her eyebrows, leaning in closer, âDonât tell me youâve joined the rest of them on your own grand quest for love. You sly dog.â
Jo clenched her jaw. How could someone who knew nothing of love try to tell her what it was. âYeah, that is her problem. But I was the reason for it.â She turned away from the vampire, looking out at the frozen water just now realizing she had done it. âYou know, I wasnât the one who gravitated to her. I saved her from one wolf and she never left my side after thatâŠâÂ
Like a leech. The whole thing seemed to fall into place. Of course it was Luciaâs doing, and how foolish the demon was to get attached so easily. Kitty used to think the two of them had so much in common, but it was only now that she realized how wrong a thought it was. âThat makes sense.â She nodded, unsure of how else to approach the subject. Sheâd come here to get on Joâs good side, and something was telling her it wasnât working out as sheâd hoped. âYouâre going to go straight back to her, arenât you?â Her brow furrowed as she let out a sigh, âYouâre far too good to be kept. If she doesnât give you the freedom you deserve, Iâll make sure she hears about it.â Stepping back, she adjusted her coat, pulling her hood up like a mane that framed her petite face, âAnd if you ever want to know how much greener the grass is on the other side, you know where to find me.â She smiled at last.
Catherine sighs and shakes her head. This wasnât her fight, and she damned well wasnât getting involved. The tempers on these woman were enough to level the town if it got out of hand âI suppose she is.â she agrees. She wouldnât bit though, not today. She smiles warmly. âPerhaps I will.âÂ
âIf you need me, donât be afraid to call. Unless I wonât care-- which will more than likely be the case.â She chuckles at last, before quirking her head in curiosity. âWhat do you even do for fun these days? Or who, rather. You canât be hiding away here alone all the time, can you?â
âI could barely get out of her how exactly she had gotten into my home without notice, let alone a reason for her being there.â She listens, eyes trailing over the other vampireâs neck for a moment before returning to her eyes. Her brow raises at the mention of Alex and her near slip up. âSo my best and brightest are running around like petty school children. Youâre right, it is pitiful.â She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. âIâll keep her from self destructing, you⊠go figure out what you have with Alex so the wolf knows she canât be sleeping with someone else. Unless youâd like her to continue doing so.â Honestly she would like to stay out of the drama, but having Lucia implode meant half of them would probably go with her. And over a damn woman. yup, pitiful.
âWhat I âhaveâ with anyone is none of her business,â Kitty grumbles, âThatâs what got me into this mess in the first place.â She couldnât care less what Luciaâs problem was with anyone else on her usual days-- it was only when she brought it through her door that it became her problem too. Then there was the fact it was Alexâs safety at stake. God, caring for people other than herself was exhausting. âWell, sheâs your problem now. Leave her to rot for all I care.â A hint of a smile plays at her lips. âItâs a shame that you had to be dragged down with the rest of us, especially over something so mundane. Perhaps youâll get a momentâs peace by the end of the week, mhm?â
Was it fear she was feeling? It wasnât fear of the things Kitty said she did, no. She had done things even worse to her own father. She stepped back as the woman approached, shaking her head. âYou know nothing. What I feel for her is not an illusion. I loved her before I changed and will continue to until the last star falls from the sky.â She felt herself become angry again, âAlex was never meant to happen but thatâs what I do. I act with out thinking.â The now ice under the pier rumbled and cracked. âThatâs the whole reason I was almost killed. The whole reason I was captured. Because I didnât think about what could happen. This is my fault. Mine. Not Alexâs, not yours, or Luciaâs. Mine..â She trailed off at the end. That outburst came out of nowhere, she wasnât even sure if it made sense but she couldnât stop talking.Â
Kitty pulled a face upon hearing Joâs outburst. âYouâre right-- I do know nothing. The notion of love escapes me.â She could understand a certain level of fondness for the demon-- sheâd felt it herself-- but there was no way on Earth that she could fathom wanting to stay with her until the end of time. She was foul-tempered, destructive, and unreliable. And disloyal, she noted, although that was more aimed at herself than the rest of the situation. The risk, the compromise-- to her, none of it was worth it. âPerhaps it was your fault, but the consequences of her little outburst is her problem, not yours.â
âWhat has she done?â Catherine ignore the last comment, opting for a stern look instead. The vampire was well aware that when Lucia sought her out that it was to keep herself from self destructing.Â
âShe hasnât told you?â She asks sourly, ignoring the look Catherine gave her, âShe came to my house and exploded like an angry child. You should see my banister.â Pushing her collar aside slightly, the mark is very much still there, even if it had already begun to fade. âThis I can deal with, but builders I cannot.â She practically shuddered at the thought of letting strangers into her house. âI didnât even have any of the fun, yet Iâm the one that gets punished for her Stockholm syndrome girlfriend fucking my--â Her what, exactly? âAlex.â She corrected, âItâs pitiful, really.â
