Because no.

Jax wasn't lovely. Jax was awful, cruel and pushed everyone away, and never took a single chance given.

He wasn't lovely.

But she could have been.

Oh Jax. If you just accepted yourself and the people around you sooner, she could've have been lovely. You would've been happier with yourself and the world around you. If you loved yourself for who you were, you probably would've hurt less people.

But you let her exist far too late. It took someone personally traveling through your torment to the point you couldn't hide anything anymore, to let her breathe.

The moment you admitted "I don't want to go" when the entire rest of the series you were begging to fade away, you admitted you wanted to keep living as her. That's why the song started at that moment. She was born far too late.

At least she lives somewhere, out there. Drinking at Riley's bar with some friends.

I'm a trans guy and Derek, I can tell you my wardrobe has improved a huge amount simply by reading your threads. The "dress for your body type" stuff never worked well for me; your threads about putting together an intentional look and for getting a good fit - that's 99% of the game.

I remember encountering exactly this sentiment when reading up about women's haircuts/hairstyles. The essay started off with "There are many different face shapes, and that means that the same hairstyle will look different on different people," and went on to list and show examples of each different facial shape. I thought, oh cool! human variety is amazing and aesthetics are so complex! And then the essay went from that right into "of course there is only one GOOD facial shape, The Beauteous Oval, and the whole point of hairstyling is to try to disguise all the other awful ugly deviant facial shapes and make everyone look exactly the same <3"

Yup, I strongly agree with Derek's advice that one should first pick an aesthetic they vibe with, and then work from there.

"Passing guides" tend to focus on ways to hide in your clothes, and they are heavily biased towards body types that are already read as [preferred gender] and are unsurprisingly, thin, abled, and culturally white/western. There were some very popular trans masc guides in the early Tumblr days, and I think they did more harm than good.

People generally want clothing that minimizes dysphoria/dysmorphia and maximizes euphoria. And sometimes (not always!), trans people also want to add "passing" to their criteria.

Luckily, there are a lot of ways to achieve that goal. You just gotta spend some time learning the visual language of your chosen fashion aesthetic.
