This is legitimately useful reframing. A while ago I started replacing the word "cop" in my vocabulary with "a man with a gun." It really puts things into perspective.

It makes it very clear what you're saying. I can call a man with a gun to threaten or hurt someone mildly inconveniencing me. My main problem with mermaids is the human torso especially when you get into faster species like sharks, orcas, dolphins. The human torso is fucking up the aerodynamics!!! For faster species the human torso should be dramatically shortened imo the tail should come up to the armpits at least. Keep the human stomach and chest but move the transition up along the back. The eyes being human forehead facing ones would also fuck with it cause you have to have your head up which breaks up the shape and fucks the water flow up.

Respect is not something that is given as a gift, it's something that's earned. You should always be kind but you do not default to respecting someone just because of perceived authority

For those asking about it, from birth we've taught Penny that when we're born we make a deal with all people called "the social contract" that as a person living in society you must always be kind and courteous to those around you and that EVERYONE matters., but that doesn't mean we blindly respect and obey anyone who thinks they're an authority figure- we respect those who respect us.
