He wasn’t supposed to be feeling this way. Northwind didn’t want to feel his heart pound against his chest. Yet when he tried to calm himself down it seemed to only beat two times faster.
He didn’t want to feel his cheeks burn and blush, he hoped his cold hands would calm it still they always felt warm no matter how he tried. He didn’t want to stumble across his words when you spoke to him because you wanted to know more about his home.
Northwind’s mind would go blank and every hair on his body would stand on end, he tried to remain unwavering in your presence. But the way his eyes would become half-lidded and his mouth once a tight line would turn into a silly little smile as you rambled on about just how gorgeous it must be at the castle.

“I’m telling you [Name], he has to have a crush on you!” Crystal said to you as you both sat on a bench out in the courtyard. “Crystal please, I barely know him,” You muttered between cold breaths, “Not like that’s stopping him!” Crystal snickered, while you scowled at her. “Doesn’t matter anyway, in a few days you’ll be gone and I won’t see Northwind again.” Crystal shook her head like a disappointed Mother. “Which is exactly why you need to tell him.”
Crystal grabbed your face and shoved it in a direction, “See, he is right there doing — !” The princess started only to realize Northwind was currently on the ground wiggling around like some kind of warm.
“Actually, what is Northwind doing?” You both gave him peculiar looks as you watched the boy play in the snow. Apparently he noticed too, as Northwind got up swiftly dusting himself off and giving you a quick wave.
You also caught sight of how his face had looked particularly more red than usual. “Why do you like him again?” Crystal asked, her hands now resting against your shoulders, but she let go at the feeling of a sharp pain in her own shoulder.
“Ow! Seriously pinching!” Crystal rubbed her arm, to try and subside the growing pain. “What you get for being nosy,” You turned away and found that Northwind still stood in the same spot, only this time he was playing with some snow in his palms.
You sour expression turned soft as you gazed at him. “I’m gonna go talk to him,” You stood up, striding away as you could practically feel the happiness radiating off of the girl behind you. “Woohoo!” Crystal cheered you on silently.
The closer you got though, the more you realized that Northwind seemed to be getting more and more anxious as you got nearer. “Hi, Northwind,” You greeted him, while the boy himself only gave you a crooked grin. “Hi, [Name],” He replied, then immediately closed his mouth. You stood there for a couple of seconds expecting Northwind to say more but the more you waited the more awkward it seemed to get.
“Just talk to each other!”
Someone shouted from behind you, the noise making you both look back over to where it had came from. Crystal stood there hands folded around her mouth, and a snarky smirk forming on her face.
“Let’s go somewhere more private,” Grabbing Northwind’s hand you drag him away from the chaos that is known as Crystal. “Oh, okay,” Northwind followed you blindly, his mind to focused on your hands.
You were holding his hand.
“Northwind?” Your voice shook Northwind from his day dream. “Yes?” He answered, you had stopped a few feet before him, he could feel the tug between your arms. “Are you gonna let go?”
Nodding down towards Northwind’s hand, he grew embarrassed at how tightly he still seemed to be holding on while your fingers were loose and limp in his grip. Yet instead of letting go, he kept his hand there. “Actually…I think I like my hand here.” northwind said, his more naive said showing through.
Your eyes widened a little bit, but then you smiled, holding his hand tightly once more. “Okay.” You replied, before you both stood there in the snow. It was quiet—well, about as quiet as a highschool courtyard could be, serene, and peaceful.
You, the boy you liked, alone and happy, lost in each other's eyes. Like two moths attracted to a great flame, your bodies began to move subconsciously towards one another, like a primal instinct in your bones. The sound of the snow crunching beneath your feet loud in your ears with each step.
You both stopped mere centimeters away, Northwind’s eyes focused on your lips, his breath came out shaky, each gust of warm air exiting his mouth was the only thing that kept you knowing he was even living, for how he stood stil, and how long he stared, wanting nothing more than to kiss you.
A voice shouted loudly, causing both of you to jump away from each other in shock. Northwind clumsily found himself against the ground, his cheeks rosy pink. The shouts of your name just kept getting louder and louder, embarrassed yet also giddy, you left to follow the sound of your name.
Giggling to yourself meanwhile. As Northwind heard your footsteps disappear, he could not contain the dopey, lopsided, cheeky little grin as he spoke to himself. “A princess likes me…”
