       HIS gaze had a difficult time trying not to trail away from the screen of the TV, subconsciously looking down at the feet of the protagonists for brief seconds through the scene. He tapped a single foot in jitters; only succeeding in replacing a yelp with a jolt of his hand when the bloody visage set the peak to the suspension. 

“Yeah, scary. Not.”

Feigning indifference to the best of his efforts, he managed on a stiff smile as he swat his hand in the air; as if dismissing both the gory scene of the movie and the fear he barely managed to conceal.

      He let the book fall on its covers, the bunched array of words out of his sight and now showing a plate of confections that Seolhyun placed before him. “Game on?” He blankly recited her words as he stared at the girl sitting on the other side of the table, taking a piece from the plate before etching on a sudden smile as if he just remembered to do so. “Chubby bunny.” He added on as he promptly placed a piece of marshmallow in her mouth, evoking a gentle laughter as he clapped at the white powder smudged on the corner of her lips.

       Being the aloof person he is, Taehyung was too impartial to give an effort in being prudent with people in general. So being a tactful guy around girls was out of the question, as he spent a good few minutes with his hands on his stomach instead of attempting to catch the other’s arm. She slipped, she fell, and he made no effort to stifle his lengthy laughter. “I told you, it’s icy out here. Get it? icy, because you slipped on ice!” He gave a few light taps on the other’s shoulder upon his joke, obviously too oblivious to notice the other’s frown on their face with his poorly timed joke.

“I’ve heard that. I haven’t changed my phone since I got an iPhone and if I start buying more Apple products, I’d officially be broke out of my mind.” She snorts almost instantly, standing up from her spot on the couch and walks over to the door to slip on her shoes, taking her scarf and wraps it securely around her neck. “Mm, we can go rent some DVDs. We can go eat too, don’t worry! Something hot would be nice since the weather is starting to get chilly… Maybe some rice cakes and fish cakes, aaaah, street food would be nice today.”

       “Apple before Windows.” He remarks, ending a period to the subject as he chuckled out a grunt to pick himself back up. “It’s so damn cold outside, we should go to one that actually provides some kind of warmth. You know, not like those ones where you stand in front of your food and half-freeze yourself to death while eating.” He shudders against the bleak wind that greeted the two out the door, putting his shoulders up to maximize the warmth he can contain inside his jacket. “So let’s look for a tented booth with tables behind them, because I’m always down for street food. I think I might have cheap taste, because I prefer spicy rice cakes over something extravagant like... steak.

      “Alright, alright. I was just kidding — please don’t nag I already get enough of that as it is.” She adds, laughing along with him. “Is it really illegal? People probably do stuff like that all the time even if they’re not professionals. It sounds pretty epic, like an underground organization.. or maybe I just watch way too many crime dramas.” Fidgeting with the dog tags around her neck, the brunette focused her hazel eyes back onto the male as she shot him a glare at his last remark. “Yah! I don’t have stuffed animals at home! How old do you think I am? 12?”

      “I think it’s more about the likeliness of getting caught with it, kind of like how people do drugs. People do it all the time—but what are the chances of getting caught?” He shrugs, as if answering his own question. “I thought it was more common for girls to have stuffed animals at home, like those big ones that they place on their beds. Have you not received any of those from a guy or something? Even I have one at home.” He speaks in jest, giving her a slight nudge of his elbow.

       “I can tell you the whole journey I went through to get myself here, but let’s just summarize it for both of our sake.” Pulling the fallen sleeve of his shoulder, he gives himself a moment before furrowing his brows, his choice of having to recall the past events leaving him unfulfilled. “I miraculously dropped my phone between that gap between the subway and the entrance, and had to get one of the people at the station to get it for me. That alone took an hour, and then I realized after I exited the station that I left my bag in the train—so I went back in and spent another hour trying to retrieve it. So here I am, two hours and a half late.”

       After adding the last shot of soju left in the bottle, he takes an unused spoon on the edge of the table before hitting it down in the glass of alcohol to fuse the mixture. Taking his right hand to make a fist, he reaches out in front of the older male with an ardent smile with presumption to his victory. “Yeah it should be fun—considering you’re going to be the loser to drink this thing. I never lose at rock paper scissors, hyung.”

       “I didn’t major in psychology to listen through such prosaic reasons to receive counseling. I’ll return the answer with some nagging and lecturing, instead.” He swats his hand in the air with a laugh, as if dismissing the her reply. “They’re always free, I was kidding about the charge. I think it’s illegal to charge people for counseling when I’m not even a professional yet—” Knitting his brows, he brushes off the thought with a tussle of his overgrown bangs. “So use me for a good reason, because you can complain about school to your stuffed animals at home.”

“It would be a fortune to actually buy an Apple TV. Why would you even pick an Apple TV, there are other smart televisions out there, you gotta choose the expensive one.” She laughs softly, suddenly leaning back on the couch as he stood up and went over to take his jacket. They weren’t going anywhere… At least that’s what she thought when he had called her over to hangout by seeing that his laptop wasn’t starting, it looks like he took matters in his own hands. “Go out? Go out where? It’s cold.” It was her way of saying she didn’t want to go out since it was getting colder out, that was why she decided to stay indoors.

       His brows furrow a bit, because he can’t come up with a rational reply that would go against the other’s statement. “Okay, but once you start using Apple products, you can’t go back. Everything needs to be Apple.” Finding his answer subjective but somewhat pertinent, he gives a small shrug before tapping the toe of his right sneaker to adjust. He gives a scrunch of his nose at the euphemism for her dissent, groaning a little before crouching down with his hands together on his knees. “So we can go rent a DVD! Let’s get something to eat too, I’m starving.”

☢ — - Hearing the other male’s words didn’t irritate Jaebum for once. Instead he quirked a brow at the first few words said, wondering where he was going with it. “And what sources would they be? Sounds religious. But in a way it’s right. It disturbs the balance of the population and Europe is apprehensive about it.” With a cat purring as they snuggled around his leg, Jaebum continued scratch the cat behind their ears and considered the other’s words solemnly. “That’s why people are reverting to buying more dogs as well… to make up for company. It is interesting. Then again it depends on everyone. Do you think you can live without a girlfriend?” The question made him furrow his brows together in thought and he folded his arms to tuck his hands away from the frigid wind.

          “It can get lonely.” He quietly confessed after a moment of silence. “How do you know whether you need a girlfriend or not?” The self confession made him scratch the back of his neck awkwardly before he gathered the tabby cat in his arms. “I feel so bad for them. It’s getting so cold. But if I take all of them home, there will be too many cat fights.” In response to his question, Jaebum smirked. “You always have to start off somewhere, don’t you? I’ve been coming here for a while so they are familiar with me. Better luck in the next three months. Just don’t give up. They can play hard to get.” The connection of feline behaviour to female behaviour made him scoff.

       Taehyung quietly observed the other’s actions, watching the cat being picked up and cradled in the other’s arms. He then looked up as he took a moment to stare at the stranger’s set of orbs, blinking under the gaze of two pitch-black pupils. The amount of affection he expressed for the cats left him inquisitive, his gaze now down to his jacket with specks of cat’s fur. Finding the other’s junction of distant demeanor and his perceptive question somewhat engaging and contradictory, he laughed overtly with a slight shake of his head.

“Maybe you don’t know if you need one or not, so you try it out to acquire an answer. Who wouldn’t like receiving affection, though? That’s probably the predominant reason why people form relationships—or, the reason why people pick up stray cats from the streets.” He offers a quick shrug, slightly jutting out his lower lip in a certain amount of doubt to his answer. “I’m a poor college student who can barely feed himself—I don’t want to starve one of these guys along with me.” He snorts a chuckle, staring at the cat’s blue orbs lovingly as his eyes formed crescent shapes. “But maybe they’ll realize how much I adore them in the span of next few months. It would be rewarding, considering how I always take the long way home just to see some of them.”
