Two of Ukraine’s top talents come together as Kiev producer Spartaque and Kharkov based Alan Wools collaborate. The pairs previous work consists on labels like Tronic and Renesanz, and their latest effort is just as impressive.

Titled ‘Elements’ the track is a synth heavy rinse of stompin’ drums, wide beds of reverb and a light splash of resonance on the low mids for a little acidic touch. Bold and to the point.

Last week, Ben Frost pulled a Beyoncé by dropping a surprise mini-album.  Those who follow Frost (literally, as in It Follows) might have seen this coming, but the rest of us were caught happily off guard.  Threshold of Faith is the first evidence of last year’s sessions with Steve Albini, representing but a quarter of the material, while whetting our appetite for things to come.  At half an hour, it’s long enough to entertain, and in the wake of the opera The Wasp Factory restores the interest of our instrumental site.

Declarative statement, rife with rusty electronics, deep bass booms and sonic pings.  There’s no compromise here, no wink to the mainstream.  While listening, one mulls the fact that this sound, once the fingerprint of only a few, has since been adopted by so many, especially in the genre of grime (more on that later).  But only a few can do it like Frost, who always implies an orchestra, even when none is present.

Albini is an inspired pairing for Frost, as each man is a maverick in the industry. While Albini is older, his experience in punk and independent music marks him as a man of wisdom.

Polish producer Dice and Bass new single ‘Seduction’  is a twisted mix of dark electro and deep house with elements of dubtechno. Apparently the songs of Dice And Bass “seek to explore darkest elements of the human psyche”.  How do you like it?

Accordingly to Danny Leroi ‘Stay Alive’ started out with a melodic vocal sample by Anastasia Gera on which he gradually began composing the song around. 

“The sound elements found in the release are all inspired by local sounds in the Amsterdam music scene which does give my third release a slight different feeling compared to my previous songs.”

"this, this long-playing record, a thing we made in the midst of communal mess, raising dogs and children. eyes up and filled with dreadful joy – we aimed for wrong notes that explode, a quiet muttering amplified heavenward. we recorded it all in a burning motorboat.

1. UNDOING A LUCIFERIAN TOWERS – look at that fucking skyline! big lazy money writ in dull marble obelisks! imagine all those buildings much later on, hollowed out and stripped bare of wires and glass, listen- the wind is whistling through all 3,000 of its burning window-holes!

2. BOSSES HANG – labor, alienated from the wealth it creates, so that holy cow, most of us live precariously! kicking at it, but barely hanging on! also – the proud illuminations of our shortened lives! also – more of us than them! also – what we need now is shovels, wells, and barricades!

3. FAM / FAMINE – how they kill us = absentee landlord, burning high-rise. the loud panics of child-policemen and their exploding trigger-hands. with the dull edge of an arbitrary meritocracy. neglect, cancer maps, drone strike, famine. the forest is burning and soon they’ll hunt us like wolves.

4. ANTHEM FOR NO STATE – kanada, emptied of its minerals and dirty oil. emptied of its trees and water. a crippled thing, drowning in a puddle, covered in ants. the ocean doesn’t give a shit because it knows it’s dying too.

finally and in conclusion; the “luciferian towers” L.P. was informed by the following grand demands: + an end to foreign invasions + an end to borders + the total dismantling of the prison-industrial complex + healthcare, housing, food and water acknowledged as an inalienable human right + the expert fuckers who broke this world never get to speak again
