Arabic for Beginners
So you wanna learn Arabic. Assuming you already know how to read and write now is the time to develop your vocabulary and grammar!
But let me say this and honestly this goes for everything in life worth working hard for especially learning a new language by yourself. The results will only be as good as the time and effort you put into learning.
1) You need a really good arabic dictionary. Theres many but not all are as good as they boast. I suggest using a simple dictionary like Al-Mawrid.
2) The Madina Book Series is excellent in my opinion for beginners. It eases the student into vocabulary and basic grammar structures without overwhelming you.
The first two books are for beginners up until the intermediate level or so. The actual books are completely in arabic hence they come with a ākeyā/ translation of the the books for english speaking students.
Book 1Ā // Book 2Ā Key 1Ā // Key 2Ā
Let me know if any of you will be actually studying Arabic, perhaps I can lend a hand and answer any of your questions!
Patience does not mean to passively endure. It means to be farsighted enough to trust the end result of a process. What does patience mean? It means to look at the thorn and see the rose, to look at the night and see the dawn. Impatience means to be so shortsighted as to not be able to see the outcome. The lovers of God never run out of patience, for they know that time is needed for the crescent moon to become full."
Rumi
Here is something
Sometimes Muslim men want to be religious and modest and by doing so they do not speak to muslim women, which is perfectly fine and good on you. But if you think ignoring A Muslim woman and her Salam is being modest and religious, you are very wrong. By doing so you are being rude and disrespectful. If a Muslim woman says Salam to you and you ignore it, you are being rude; very very rude. Youāre not going to go to hell if you say Salam back. You will not go to hell if you answer a question you get from a muslim woman. Please Muslim men understand the difference between being religious and modest and being rude and disrespectful.
Thank you,
Your sister in Islam.
I agree! Some of this seriously has to do with not having knowledge about Islam. We are apart of the same society, we need to learn to live cohesively. There was no such thing as aĀ ābarrierā or āsatrā during the time of the Prophet(saw). The women would simply pray behind the men in salah for example. And so one time the women complained to the Prophet(saw) about the men saying that their awrah would be revealed when they made sujood, so the Prophet (saw) told the women to raise their heads after the men had sat down straight. Why is this significant?Because gender relations existed during the Sahabaās time. It wasn't like men never seeing women and if they do acting like its the most traumatic experience they've ever had. NowĀ women always receive the short end of the stick when it comes to gender relations. We are always to be blamed. We are theĀ āfitnahā. Anyways point in case, theres other ways to be religious and modest other than ignoring a woman existence.
Shows I grew up watching

Modern Standard Arabic
Just a side note; The arabic that most of us if not all of us are aspiring to learn is the modern standard arabic especially if youāre Muslim. Why? Because thats the arabic you need to understand the Quran, Hadeeth, and all other written work. Why do I mention this? Because the Arab world does not actually speak fus-ha. Every country has what you call its own colloquial arabic which we call in arabic lahja/ŁŁŲ¬Ų©. And learning colloquial arabic does not mean in anyway you know fus-ha. The two are in no way synonymous. I would say colloquial arabic is its own language, and some actually argue that it is. It has its own rules and pronunciation etc.
I remember when I started learning Arabic in Egypt and was surprised that most people had a difficult time understanding me and were actually mocking the way I spoke. To them I was speaking complete shakespearean, like I was the most backward individual. Others thought I was to be commended for wanting to learn it.
dear young woman of color, I believe you when you say feel unwanted. I believe you when you say that for a world that throws fair and lovely in your face like its some sort of trophy, you feel that your melanin is merely a color that is only found in crayons. But you cannot show a blind man the sun and expect him to understand its grandeur.Ā So just because they don't know how to love you doesn't mean you are not beautiful, because you are.
I was just recently pondering over the wordĀ ŲŲ§Ł Ł Ų§ŁŁŲ±Ų¢Ł which meansĀ āCarrier of the Quran or one who carries the Quran. And it was then I realized that to carry something means to never put it down. Simple I know but not as much as you think especially if youāve ever tried memorizing the Quran. You see, memorizing the Quran is one thing, retaining it is a completely different ball game for most people. And in order to retain all those pages or chapters of the Quran youāve memorized you must continuously go review them again and again and again. SoĀ ŲŲ§Ł Ł Ų§ŁŁŲ±Ų¢Ł is not only someone who carries the quran physically but also spiritually and mentally as well. And so the Quran would then be with this person at all times, in his heart,in his hands and in his life. How beautiful.
The most beautiful jilbaab I have ever seen.
It really is. Where can I get this??
Resources for learning Arabic (Absolute Beginners)
I know a lot of us aren't able to make the journey to an arabic speaking country so we can learn arabic because of many reasons whether it be personal or financial. But don't fret alhamdulillah there is still a plethora of resources that you can start out with for absoluteĀ beginners.
First and foremost if you cannot read the Arabic alphabet than that is the first step you will take. Now I'm sure most of us if not all know where to get basic books that teach you simply how to read but in the case that you do not have access to that then you have a number of options.
Ā Ā Ā Ā 1. Ā Ā Madina Arabic Reading CourseĀ : It does a pretty good job in covering the basics and more. You need to practise, practise, practise. I can't stress this enough. If you can get someone to help you while you learn, even better than the option above.
Ā Ā Ā Ā 2. Ā ArabicPod101Ā : She goes through all the letters in multiple videos and much more like how the letters would look in certain positions.
Ā Ā Ā Ā 3. Arabic Reading Course :Ā http://arabicreadingcourse.com/letters-menu.html
Whatever the last two resources didn't touch up on, this website will give you a more clear understanding, hopefully, of those concepts.
Youāre telling me that at the end of this week iA, Iāll have graduated from the most comprehensive, intensive, challenging business school in Houston. Youāre telling me that my education has given me the chance to work at NASA, Deloitte, and starting next Monday iA, the largest energy corp on the planet. Youāre telling me that Iāve sat down with Fortune 500 CEOs and government managers, presented work to executives, competed in regional and national competitions, led a student organization, cried my eyes out in Advanced Accounting, was a member of the Honors College, and found time to work part- or full-time through it all. Alhamdulilah. It was so much work, and so many supported me through this. I canāt believe the experiences Iāve been blessed to have, nor that this is where the journey begins. But Iām ready to show the world what a little foreign girl with the confidence issues who moved to the U.S. without a lick of English, who was and will always be the continual underdog, is going to do to change this place for the better. You ready? š #CanadaBorn #TexasRaised #UHMade
Thank you for all the kind comments and tags. :) I have been blessed with so many failures and mistakes along the way, as well, with people who have pushed me endlessly to keep going. Keep me in your dua.

REPRESENT MASHAALLAH
#CanadaBorn as well! Allah ya baarak feek. Its always lovely to see an empowering determined sister mashaaAllah. And I know theres more out there, where yallll atttt huh?!
Western students in Egypt are so underrepresented especially female students!Ā I get jealous when I see so many male students, like where my sisters at?!Ā
When Muslims feel like theyāre more affected by two girls getting a marriage license than they are about misogyny, racism, and sectarianism existing and thriving in our community. šššššš
šš»šš»šš»
not to mention colourism. Ive never felt more patronized about the shade of my skin until I immersed myself in the muslim community...the irony.
You know that fancy verse of Quran thats on every Muslim wedding invitation? The one that goes: "And of His signs is that He created for you from amongst yourselves spouses that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and love. Indeed in that is a sign for people who reflect." (Surah Rum 30:21) Interestingly enough, look at the verse before and after it: "And of His signs is that He created you from dirt; then suddenly you were human beings dispersing throughout the earth." (30:20) "And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for people of knowledge." (30:22) How amazing is it that the verse of marriage is placed between a verse which condemns racism and a verse which says that our diversity of languages and colors is a blessing from Allah. Coincidence? I think not. The sequence of the verses flows with divine wisdom
