Expedia enters India

I always used to use Expedia for everything. I booked my first college "vacation" on it to Charleston, SC many years ago and have used it ever since. But I didn't realize their entry into India was so recent.

Expedia entered the Indian travel market on 6 March, 2008. It has unveiled an exquisite selection of international hotels and international travel destinations and attractions for the Indian travelers. Not only this, their services are also available for traveling within India and that too at cost that will surely fir your pocket.

On the occasion of the launch of Expedia site, there were some statements made by the important members of Expedia.

Expedia promises that the launch of its new site in India would definitely be a good deal for the Indian travelers. They can now not only have their local or international travel packages customized but for nay help, they can talk to customer representatives who can speak both Hindi and English.

Boomer Sooner For Your Kids This Xmas

I've found the best way to brainwash your child into going to your college (if you REALLY love it) is to make sure you cover them in the school colors as early and often as possible. God forbid you let the child grow up and want to go into a field that your school either doesn't have in the curriculum or isn't particularly renowned for, you'll win them over with brainwashed loyalty.

"Sorry Jimmy, I know you want to be a marine biologist, but you can be a legacy at Theta Chi! I can't tell you how many beers I drank and how many times I lost at strip poker!"

Okay, that may be a bit excessive, but for some reason we seem, as a culture, to be obsessed with making our children try to relive our existence and as such, here's a guide to dressing your kid up like a true Sooner.

1. Don't shop at Wal-Mart (the stuff never looks legit, it's just cheap)

2. Less is more. Much like Affliction shirts for adults, too big of designs just look tacky. You want your kids to look back and think you were cool enough to buy them something simple and timeless. Stick to a simple logo and solid colors, they'll thank you for it later.

3. A little loose, but don't get out of hand. You want them to grow into it, but you don't want them to swim in anything you get them or once again, they'll look back and wonder why you're dressing them in shower curtains.

Anonymous Donor Gives $5,000 of Amazon Gift Cards to Midwestern Orphan Society (MOS)

Chesterton, Indiana -- The Midwestern Orphan Society, an organization dedicated to caring for and housing children orphaned specifically in the United States' Midwest, received an anonymous donation of $5,000 worth of Amazon Gift Cards to their headquarters in Chesterton, Indiana. The unexpected donation was found early Wednesday morning in a basket left on the doorstep of the second floor office building. 

Although the donor remains anonymous, a handwritten note attached to the gift cards provided some information for the reasoning behind the act of generosity. The note's transcript read,

           "It is with extreme delight that I give these gift cards to the worthy children of MOS. Upon realizing my collection of Amazon gift cards had accumulated at an unprecedented rate over the past few years, I knew that they belonged in the hands of someone that would truly appreciate them.  Raised as an orphan myself, I knew all too well the sadness of having very few toys, electronics, and popular apparel that other kids had. I hope these children find joy in picking out a gift for themselves, and that their smiles provide a simple reminder of how important your organization is to the Midwest, and to the greater United States."  

Head of Communications and Spokesman for MOS Tyler Berg said the odd donation was a surprisingly useful one.

“While we’ve never had a donation of gift cards before, the versatility of those donated allowed us to purchase some necessities for the children and upgrade some out of date equipment at our facility. We are still a little shocked by this, and we are so very grateful to whomever made this very generous donation.”

The Midwestern Orphan Society was founded in 1983 and has since cared for more than 1,500 of the Midwest's displaced children.

Laura Buxton released a helium filled balloon during celebrations for her grandparents’ gold wedding anniversary in Blurton, Staffordshire, in June 2001. Attached to the balloon was her name and address and a note asking the finder to write back. Ten days later she received a reply. The balloon had been found by another Laura Buxton in the garden hedge of her home in Pewsey, Wiltshire, 140 miles away. Both Lauras were ages 10 and both had three year old black Labradors, a guinea pig, and a rabbit.

Elderly Oklahoma Woman Ran Marijuana Ring

According to law enforcement officials in Craig County, Oklahoma, they have broken up one of the biggest marijuana rings in that part of the state and arrested the ringleader, a 73-year old woman named Darlene Mays.

After a five-month investigation, authorities served a search warrant to Darlene at her home Monday evening. Inside they found some 6 pounds of marijuana and about $277,000 in cash, stuffed in bags scattered throughout the house.

ok, 2 pictures of a house and 1 not-so-good picture of a parking lot. first, the house. i assume that this house is quasi-abandoned, which would explain why it looks like a mini version of norma desmond’s house in ‘sunset blvd’. if you’ve never seen ‘sunset blvd’ then you owe it to yourself to go out and rent or buy ‘sunset blvd’, as it’s one of the greatest movies ever made about l.a. ok, let me re-state that, it actually is the greatest movie ever made about l.a. and this little house on the hill in it’s state of entropic desolation kind of reminds me of norma desmond’s house, but at about 1/100th the scale/size, and minus the dead monkey in the bedroom and the rats in the swimming pool. although it might have both, i didn’t really get close enough to check. and then, the parking lot. if for some reason you’ve seen my book ‘destroyed’ you might be aware of the fact that i have a strange and inexplicable love of/for empty parking lots. and i especially like this empty parking lot, as:

it’s big 

it’s in the middle of hollywood 

it has, for some reason, a perfect palm tree growing up through the dilapidated concrete.

and lone palm trees remind me of the album ‘miami’ by the gun club, which is a great album. in fact, lots of dilapidated hollywood reminds me of the gun club. in a good way. ok, i’m rambling, it’s 2a.m sunday night and i have to go to bed. here’s mini-normal desmond house and a perfect abandoned parking lot. i hope you had a good weekend. thanks moby
