// KnightTale is set in a world where the monsters were never forced underground. So they have a ton more space, and thus a larger population as a result. So they have been able to kill way more monsters and level up way further than they would be able to in Classic Undertale.
“Eye witness counts describe the killer as a human child, in purple with possibly stolen armor, with a red heart design in the center of the chest piece!” Undyne boomed to the assembly. “The child is most definitely not stable, and has been noted as either laughing or crying uncontrollably... during it’s... Murders.”
She hesitated at the end, hell that was a bit unsettling even to her. Then she cleared her throat “The child is to be detained if they are found unarmed. However, previous attempts to subdue them when they have their blades has proven... unwise. “ She spoke up, louder again, making sure every single guard in the room heard this last part. “Per the orders of the King, if the child is found bearing weapons, they are to be killed without mercy.”
A mutter went out through the room, Undyne let them talk amongst themselves for a moment before continuing, “Until the killer is brought forth or slain, a city wide curfew is in effect past six o’ clock. No one but guards on official duties are to be about. That is all. Check with your officers to see who is on duty when and where. Good luck.”
Papyrus watched from the hall, easily hearing most of what Undyne said. Human child, something about detaining them. And a curfew. He grinned, thinking to himself, ‘This is my big chance! If I capture the human, Undyne will have to promote me to the Royal Guard! Though, it will be a shame leaving my fellow recruits so far behind me, I am certain my great success will inspire them to strive as far as I indeed!’
With that he head out, waving to the clerk at the front desk as he strode through the lobby. “Papyrus!” He stopped, turning, “Where are you going?”
Undyne stood in the doorway behind him, hands on her hips. He did not look pleased.
“W-well. I was going to go. Water... the lawn... Yes! Indeed! For I, the Great Papyrus, will not settle for an ordinary lawn! I shall have the greatest and healthies-”
Her scowl deepened, “Papyrus...”
He sighed, “Alright... I. Was going to look for the human...” he rubbed his arm absently, “I just-”
“Papyrus...” her expression softened ever so slightly, “The human is dangerous, child or not. It killed the Prime Minister and several members of the Parliament, as well as god knows how many others we have not found. I’ve had to deal with more dust this last week than in my whole time as a guard. Royal or otherwise.”
“I know but... I want to stop them too. I can not just sit idle while...” His expression cracked a little.
“I know... Sans.” She looked away. She, and well, most of the res of the guard, figured he was dead by now. He had gone missing after the Parliament attack. And while he was lazy, this really was not like him.
“He is out there, I just know it! And I shall not rest until the human is dealt with and my brother is found! The lazy bones, hes probably been asleep somewhere the whole time!”
Undyne bit her lip. God she was going to regret this... “Very well. You can tag along with the Water Guard-” His expression brightened up in an instant “-but! They are not going out until tomorrow night.”
“But-”
“No buts about it. Get yourself some rest bro... We are going to need everyone in top condition if we are going to find this thing, and your brother.”
He nodded, “Yes, of course! I am sure the others in the Water Guard will need there rest! In the mean time, I shall head home and make spaghetti!”
She laughed, “Alright bro ! See you here tomorrow! You best not be late!” ‘I doubt he will be’ she thought as she turned away, ‘Bonehead has never been late for anything in his life.’
He hummed quietly to himself as he strode down the street, his confidence reinvigorated by his talk with Undyne. He was certain that in no time, he will have made great strides towards the human’s capture!
He stopped, confused. Was that... Crying...? He stepped towards the alley, his humming stopping. Thud thud thud thud, his boots echoed down the narrow space. It was wide enough for him, with only around a foot or two of room either side.
At the end of the alley, he spotted a hunched figure, curled up in a ball crying. It was hard to even make them out from a distance. And then he spotted the blood.
“Oh goodness! Human, are you hurt!?” He stepped forwards “Well, fear not! For I, the Great Papyrus, am here to assist, should you need! And I daresay you do in fact need my assistance!”
The child looked up. Tears had left trails in the blood and dust that was caked to their cheeks. He noticed their wounds had been patched u, if only barely and quite shoddily. The child tried to speak, their voice stammering, “N-n-no... D-don- Don’t co-ome close!”
They flinched back, recoiling into the dark. “Now now, you are clearly in need of assistance human! Fear not, I shall not hurt you!” He tried to sound as confident and reassuring as he could. After all, how could he turn from someone in need?
The human shook for a moment, before a grin split their face “No?” Their voice had a nasty sound to it now. Sinister even.
This of course was lost to Papyrus, “Of course not! I am a guard after all! Erm. A Recruit! But soon to be a Royal Guard no doubt!”
The human chuckled, “Well...” A blade flashed forwards, and would have taken his head had he not leaned back on instinct, “I might hurt you, idiot.” The child leaned forwards, until their face was just in the light. The tears hadn’t stopped, but their grin was fixed in place.
He leapt back, standing quickly and trying to compose himself, “Y-You! Murdered! Nyehaha! I-I knew I would be the one to find you! Yes!” He paused, “Though... I realize now that I have neglected to bring with me my halberd! Well, fear not, for I, the Great Papyrus, shall resolve this conflict peacefully!” He grinned, this was his chance, finally!
The child stood, shaking again briefly. They looked weak, their HP had to be low, the thought. As they stepped fully into the light he noticed their injuries were far more extensive that he had originally thought. They bleed from the scalp and their side, and both their arms bore countless cits, most still open and bleeding freely. Their right leg seemed to have been stabbed through as well.
It was silent however, it simply raised it’s swords, taking a step forwards, bare foot slapping the concrete. “H-Human! You shall relinquish your blades, and tu-turn yourself in! Then we can get you properly healed, you are a worse mess than my brother on most days- and that is saying a lot!” his voice faltered as he mentioned Sans, but he cleared his throat.
“You see, this is not going to end well for you!” They took another step forwards, the shaking growing worse. “E-even if you defeat me, you shall have to deal with the rest of the Guard!” Another step. “And even then, should you by some fluke manage to get past them, U-Undyne...” Step.
The smile had faded from the human’s face, and he could hear them crying again, “B-but fear not human! As I said, should you relinquish your weapons and t-turn yourself in, I am certain you can be healed and kept in a cozy cell! We are not cruel after all! Maybe you will even get to see the King’s Garde-”
The human said something in a hushed voice, straining to even speak. Their sword’s lowered a fraction of an inch. ‘A good sign!’ he thought, continuing, “Speak up human child! I, the Great Papyrus, will hear your words!”
“R.... r... r-r-run... Pl..p-please.... J-just... run....” The human stuttered, taking another shaky step.
“Human?” he stepped forwards, “What is the matter, I can tell you do not want to do this... What-”
Frisk slashed the air in front of them as he got close, growling, then stepping back away from him, “J-Just! LEAVE ME! G-get backup o-or... something... I ... can’t... stop them.... for long...” Their grip tightened on their hilts.
He stepped back, confused, “Stop them? Who human? I don’t underst-”
They rushed forwards, a blur of fury. Shiiiing.
His eyes widened. He. Hurt. He felt... warm... he started to fall to the side, he watched his body turn to dust as he passed it. “W-wh. w-wha.... what...?”
The human fell to the ground, their blades clattering away from them as they sobbed into the fallen skelton’s scarf. “I... I don’t... Understand....” Papyrus muttered as his head finally turned to dust as well...
[[ Hello everyone! I have made a few changed to the blog. Very small. Mainly, the “The Story So Far” link on the right under my avatar. If you want to find the stories, ALL of them, listed and linked in order, there you go!
Beyond that, I have plans. Since, lets be honest, this is going brutally slowly. I’m going to be making these stories into Comics when the Genocide Arc is done. So, you can read along now, or, in a month, you can read along with a comic version. Or both.
The main reason for this is, an AU gains no traction on writing. They used to be able to live off good writing, but now a days nobody even clicks an AU like that. And, the main way Undertale AUs are seen these days is via Dubbing videos on Youtube, or Comic Dub compilations.
So, I am essentially strong armed into having to try to make comics. Which, isnt honestly all a bad thing, though it is aggravating as that means story progression will be screeching to a halt while I art.
[[ Trigger Warning for blood/gore stuff. Very minor description of injury and potential self harm. Very minor. And not really self harm so much as... well. You’ll see. Its not majorly bad. Sad though. ]]
There were very few humans who lived within the city of Home. For a long time after the city’s founding, monsters prohibited them from moving in, or staying for longer than short visits. However, the Prime Minister eventually talked King Asgore around, and the gates were opened to all.
Tensions were high for the first decade, and though equality was enforced by the guard and law, a visible wedge existed between the monsters and their human neighbors, as rare as those were.
As time went on however this tension was alleviated. Humans on the whole were generally poorer within the city than without, but things were looking up. The King and Prime Minister even adopted an orphaned human off the streets, taking them in as one of their own to be raised along side their own son, Prince Asriel.
The Prince and the Child were prone to trouble making, and though their efforts earned the disapproval of many monsters within the city, they were as close as any siblings could be.
However one day, Chara and Asriel ventured high up onto the top of Mt Ebott, adventurous as they were. They did not return that night. Or the next. It took little time for a search party to be sent, though they found hardly a trace of either child for days.
Finally, one of the parties, lead by Gerson, discovered a pit, leading deep within the mountain. Fearing the worst, the party descended into the cave. They found Asriel, a changed being, mourning over the human child’s broken frame. Chara had given their soul to their brother, in the hope that it would be enough for him to survive his injuries.
Asriel refused to leave the cave, or their sibling’s side. Despite the party’s hesitation, it was decided he must be brought to the surface by force if they must, so that his wounds may be healed.
The Prince, not but a child, but with his powers enhanced tenfold, fought off the party, resisting their attempts. The group was forced to retreat back up the cave, to seek healing and aid. When a larger party returned the following morning, they found Chara had been given a proper burial. But nothing could be found of the Prince, beyond a small scattering of dust...
Where the siblings perished, a small bed of yellow flowers bloomed. The King and Prime Minister, already suffering a tense relationship, quietly ended their marriage, with Prime Minister Toriel moving to a small home across the city.
They both mourned, though the King sought to prevent such a travesty from ever befalling the City again. He established a unique title, the Prince Guard, to stand watch over the mountain top in secret. None outside the Royal Guard and the King himself knew of this position...
[ Present Day ]
They huddled in the alleyway, curled up in a ball. A small pool of blood had slowly formed around them and they knew if they did not sort out their injuries they would die. Part of them wanted to... die that is. But they pushed on. Determined.
They tore a strip of cloth from where it was stretched overhead in a makeshift canopy, and began wrapping the cut on their arm with shaky hands. Dusty hands...
They ignored the dust... as best they could at least... It was everywhere it seemed. Their hands.. their hair... their clothes... They brushed the tears from their eyes, they had to be strong. Strong. Determined.
“Ohhh, that’s sweet, you’re actually crying?” The voice mocked in their mind. They gritted their teeth, keeping to their work. They were bleeding from everywhere it felt... “What, giving me the silent treatment now are we? How pathetic.” The voice suddenly took a sinister tone “Stop.”
Their hands stopped moving, frozen in place. Try as hard as they might, they would not move. The voice chuckled, “Thats a good puppet.... Now, take your knife.” Their hands moved to their knife, tears running free down their face now.
“Good, good...” The voice practically purred. “Now....” The knife inched closer to their wrist, “If you want to live, you will cease this pitiful display of regret.” Frisk sniffled, trying to get themself back under control. Calm. Calm... Strong... Stay... Determined... Slowly, the tears stopped. Suddenly, they had control of their own body again.
“Good. I will not tolerate your sniveling. Keep yourself together until this is over, and you get to go on with your pathetic life.” The voice hissed as their hand shot away from their wrist, throwing the knife aside. They went to wipe their cheeks, their hands shaking worse than before, curling back up into a ball to hide their face. They couldn’t take this much longer...
A grin split Chara’s face as they watched the child, unseen. This was a good puppet... Yes it was...
He waved his hand, sending the rubble across the room, clearing the path. The air was a noxious haze of dust and smoke. He coughed, calling out “Tori! Tor-” There she lay... In the center of the room. He rushed to her side, kneeling down, “Oh god. Oh god oh god oh god- Tori, Tori speak to me, Tori!” He took a deep breath, “Alright Sans calm down, calm... Think.”
He waved his hand, pulling up her stats. His bones chilled. Seven HP. “Oh... god. H-hang in there Tori.” He tried to lift her, but her HP suddenly dropped to three. “Fuck! No! Tori hang in there don’t... don’t you fucking die on me Tori, Don’t you dare do it!” Tears streamed down his face, “No...”
[ One Year Earlier... ]
His eyes shot open, his sword materializing in his hand, “Wha- WHO!? - ...”
She gasped, jumping back, “Oh- Im sorry!” Sans let his sword fade, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as she continued “I did not mean to wake you...”
He sighed, “No no, its alright. I just, didn’t expect anyone to be up here is all...” He finally got a good look at her, and he had to keep his jaw up, “O-Oh! Prime Minister!”
She laughed, gods that laugh, “No no, just call me Toriel. Titles are tiring.” He nodded, standing upright. “And who are you then, tired knight?”
“Oh, Sans. Sans the Skeleton. What are you doing all the way up here?” It was a hassle at best for someone who can’t teleport to make their way all the way up to where his watch was. That was mostly why he was given the position.
“Oh, well. I thought it would be a good view... And I must say, I am hardly disappointed.” She turned her head, gazing out over the city, the rising sun silhouetting her face.
‘Jesus Christ this is some god damn movie bullshit-’ he thought, turning away to hide his slight blush, then he cleared his throat, “Yea, it's pretty great. Oh crud, it just dawned on me, good morning!”
“Pffha! Good morning to you as well, Knight Sans.” She shook her head slightly, though she was grinning.
‘Thats a good sign, she likes puns. Can’t be that bad then eh?’ Outloud he said, “Well, its morning. Which means I’m off duty for a few hours. So I don’t have to feel as bad slacking for a bit longer... Wanna get some grub?” He grinned.
“Oh... That sounds lovely, though... it will take ages to get back down the mountain...”
“Pssh don’t worry about it,” He said, taking her hand with a grin, “I know a shortcut.”
He stepped out of the Parliament building, the front of his jacket covered in dust... The fire was gone now. His magic had put it out... Behind him, where he walked, a trail of frost slowly formed. His eyes were glowing, he knew. He could tell, the monsters waiting outside backed away from him instinctively. He couldn’t tolerate their expressions. Fear. Pity. He blinked, and was gone, leaving behind only a small patch of quickly melting frost.
The city of Home... While it’s name was rather underwhelming, the sight was most certainly the opposite of this. High upon the top of Mount Ebott, and covering the lands around it, stood the great capital of Monster Kind. It was a Haven, for all.
For miles around, tall building of gleaming stone rose, each intricately carved with various designs telling the history of the monsters who had lived there in times past. Often the towers were passed down, generation to generation, for hundreds of years. The usual bustle of the streets was audible, if only just, even from his perch.
The Knight stood there, taking in the view from atop the upper battlements, as the sun slowly set. It was nearing winter, a fact that was hard to mistake from the chilling breeze. Pap had ‘strong armed’ him into wearing his coat today, though he had only complied begrudgingly, he had to admit now that he was thankful for it.
He sighed, wondering if he could get away with a few more moments watching the sky. He was the only guard on these walls, after all. Out of sight by any who would scold him. “Meh,” he thought aloud, “they can hardly bicker about a ceremonial job anyway right?”
He kicked back, resting in the lawnchair he had smuggled up weeks earlier. “Maybe iv even got time... for a quick nap...” Sans muttered as he began drifting off. He earned it after all, standing around all day was hard work...
“Hey Alphys!” She spoke in her booming voice, “Whats up?”
The Doctor blinked, blushing slightly , “O- oh. H-hey Undyne. I was just on m-my way to speak with the King.” Her expression fell slightly, something Undyne was quick to notice.
“Whats wrong?” She asked, walking with her. Her armor clanged heavily as they made their way down the street. People instinctively moved out of the Royal Guard’s path- not from fear, so much as respect. Maybe a slight amount of fear actually... Given Undyne’s tendency to not pay attention to where she was walking when with the Royal Scientist...
Alphys hesitated for a moment, sighing, “Its... the sky... The stars.”
Undyne blinked, looking up. “They look fine to me.” That hardly seemed to comfort the Doctor though, as she continued.
“No... T-they aren’t actually... They s-seem to be. Going out, slowly.” She nodded absently to the guards to the gate as they stepped into the Palace Courtyard. “I’m n-not entirely sure whats causing it either b-but if it is connected to the anomaly th-that me and Sans have predicted...” She trailed off. “We might have issues to deal with v-very soon...Issues I don’t think you or your guards will even be able to deal with properly...”
Undyne sent a sidelong glance at the Doctor. Something she couldn’t deal with? Well, if it was taking out the stars she imagined so but... sheesh...
The door was opened for them by a servant, into a large clearing, the Palace Gardens. The King turned from his flowers, a friendly smile on his face, “Greetings Alphys, and Undyne. A pleasure as alwa-”
He was cut off suddenly by the sound of gongs, loudly echoing through the city. The alarm. Asgore’s expression fell dark, “It... Seems we will have to hold that... thought...” He rushed for the door at that, dropping his trowel. Undyne and Alphys shared a look, before rushing after him.
San’s eyes shot open, his sword materializing in his hand before he was even fully conscious. In an instant, he blinked. Rematerializing on a nearby tower. His eyes darted, scanning for what could have caused the alarms. He felt the ground shaking, there, the Parliament Building. Smoke.
He blinked again, and was instantly in the Tribune Plaza. The doors were fallen from their hinges, ripped off by god knows what. People fled in a panic, screaming. They buffered against his but he hardly slowed his approach. He pushed in as the last able monster exited.
