Piping hot take: I don't give a shit if straight actors play queer characters as long as they do so with empathy and authenticity. When you say shit like "only queer actors should play queer characters" what you're actually saying is only OUT queer actors should play queer characters. If you're assuming an actor (or anyone else, for that matter) who hasn't declared their sexuality is straight, you are participating in heteronormativity.

The idea that surgeons refuse to perform sterilization procedures on childless women because the threat of women regretting their decisions and suing the doctor for performing a procedure they sought out is so immense is ridiculous. Even if a doctor is motivated only by fear of litigation, flat-out lying to patients and claiming the procedure is illegal rather than something they don’t want to do is, dare I say it? Deeply unethical, if not malicious.

All the litigation cases I can find regarding sterilization procedures are from botched surgeries that injured the patient or from people who became pregnant despite the surgeries (usually the Fallopian tubes simply grew back). The incident of reported regret is very low and the incident of litigation on the basis of ‘actually I know I said I didn’t ever want children, but that was years ago and now I DO want to get pregnant so I will sue my surgeon for allowing me to pursue a procedure I requested instead of telling me that I was surely mistaken’ isn’t something I can find any mention of.

The only other lawsuits I’m finding are from PoC and people with inheritable disabilities who were sterilized without their knowledge by doctors who obviously didn’t want them to reproduce.
