one of my favorite things about karedevil in the comics is when vanessa gives lily a potion that makes every man who smells her think of his fondest desire and matt smells it and thinks of karen 😭 and later when he talks to foggy about it he admits that “with everything going on in his life he hadn't even realized how much he missed her” and that she was his “subconscious wish” even tho he was with milla at the time.

and i think the closest the show ever got to that was in ddba1 when matt wakes up in the hospital and the first thing he asks for is karen. like he's barely conscious. he doesn't even have time to process what's happening and she's the person his mind reaches even tho he was with heather atp

with everything going on he doesn't even realize how much he needs karen…

The heat presses against her skin, “You’ve had one night stands before, right?”

Matt’s knuckles turn white, “Not like this. Not with you.”

“Or we can just go back to pretending?” She offers, pressing her thighs together to emphasise her point, “Just let it build and build and build until it explodes and we end up right back here without the rules or boundaries to keep us safe.”

“Safe?”

“From each other.”

He flinches.

During a record-breaking heatwave, Matt and Karen have no choice but to confront the sexual attraction they still feel towards each other when things come to a head at the office. They come up with an agreement, one night to get it out of their systems and then back to normal. Except just one night isn't what either of them wants and admitting that might just break their newly built friendship.

Dedicating this one to all my Karedevil lovers! I felt like Matt and Karen needed a little more fun times (with a dash of my trademark angst and emotional baggage).

Lawyers are very good at creating subjective narratives to present objective facts in a way that sways the audience to be convinced that their story is the only likely explanation for the facts.

They can also be great at creating those narratives around their own emotions for the audience of one - themselves.

Summary:

Three weeks into Nelson Murdock & Page, and they've built something good. Something careful. Something that Matt is increasingly certain he's going to ruin by being a person with feelings. Karen knows what she wants. She's just not ready to want it yet — not when things are finally this good, not when there's this much to lose. She's very reasonable about all of it. She drinks a lot of water she doesn't need. Matt, who can hear her heartbeat from across the office, is not fooled. Something has to give. It's just a matter of who goes first.
