Here’s a “life-hack” for you. Apparently concentrated Kool-Aid can be used as a pretty effective leather dye. I was making a drink while cutting the snaps off some new straps for my pauldrons and I got curious, so I tried it, thinking, “ok even if this works, it will just wash out.” Nope. It took the “dye” (undiluted) in about 3 seconds. After drying for about an hour and a half, it would not wash off in the hottest tap-water. It would not wash out after soaking for 30 minutes. It did not wash out until I BOILED it, and even then, only by a tiny bit and it gave it a weathered look that was kind of cool. Add some waterproofing and I’d wager it would survive even that. That rich red is only one application too. Plus it smells great, lol. So there you go, cheap, fruity smelling leather dye in all the colors Kool-Aid has to offer.

If you’re dying anything with kool-aid it’s best to use SUGAR-FREE ones otherwise the thing you’re dying might get all sticky

the flavor only packets where you are supposed add sugar are the best.  they will dye any natural fiber: leather, wool, cotton, hair,  flax, jute, silk and so forth.  heat the dye water so it is more potent.  let dry then rinse excess out in cold water.  there’s  a whole system to this.

when i was younger i never used to lick the yoghurt off of yoghurt lids cause i saw a documentary once and in it there were clips of bears rootling through people’s bins and in one of them a bear found a yoghurt lid and was licking the yoghurt off. i would be like “this is for the bears” and scoop a lil extra onto the lids before i put them in the bin, mum kept telling me “bears dont live here!” but i kept doing it… just in case

Back in the 1960s, the U.S. started vaccinating kids for measles. As expected, children stopped getting measles.

But something else happened.

Childhood deaths from all infectious diseases plummeted. Even deaths from diseases like pneumonia and diarrhea were cut by half.

“So it’s really been a mystery — why do children stop dying at such high rates from all these different infections following introduction of the measles vaccine,” says Michael Mina, a postdoc in biology at Princeton University and a medical student at Emory University.

Using computer models, they found that the number of measles cases in these countries predicted the number of deaths from other infections two to three years later.

“We found measles predisposes children to all other infectious diseases for up to a few years,” Mina says.

And the virus seems to do it in a sneaky way.

Like many viruses, measles is known to suppress the immune system for a few weeks after an infection. But previous studies in monkeys have suggested that measles takes this suppression to a whole new level: It erases immune protection to other diseases, Mina says.

Time for our semi-schedualed update.

I'm back at work doing the whole pumping thing. I was really concerned for a minute that my supply was dipping but Ive managed to keep enough milk at home for her to get through the day. I think honestly shes been in the midst of a growth spurt because shes either passed out all day or she eating 6oz to her head. Shes also been a bit on the grumpy side.

We had our WIC and Dr appts last week. My iron levels are low but thats normal for me. They want me to eat more meat. Thats easier said than done, I really dont have the money for anything more than pb and j. They said to eat less dairy which made me laugh cause the give me vouchers for 5 gallons of milk in a month. Her Dr appt went well, she got her vaccines. That was horrible, she cried I cried Dennis almost cried. It was a hot mess. She had a touch of fever the next day but it really wasnt all that bad.

We took the Kid to the lake yesterday and had is some attemted disney moments. There was this deer that has gotten real comfy around people so it came right up to us and was begging for food. It was insane, I was not having any deer punching bullshit. She was making round too. Shed walk down one direction and turn around and come back through. She finally gave up the third time and just bailed. Itty Bitty wasnt really down with the cold water either, she mostly just napped and made grumpy faces at us.

Thats sorta the gist of the last couple weeks. Nothing to exciting on the baby front of things. We made it to two months!
