Its actively disheartening to have seen so many reactions to Wen Yifan in the first frost be 'shes constantly being saved' or declarations that Sang Yan is healing her.

Sang Yan as a character is aware that he cannot heal her, he hasnt even been able to fully Access her at this point — including the times they were in highschool. TFF has been making a point to show that he's always been good to her, but goodness and kindness can't "heal" a person, especially one who genuinely feels as though they can't recieve it.

And that loops right back into that very aggravating first point, that Yifan is always being saved and has no agency. In every way that matters, Yifan has saved herself. Shes managed to extricate herself from her familys grasp, even through abuse and grief she managed to keep her scores high, she managed to make it to university and build a career from the ground up, she's even managed to stand up against these family members that have traumatized and retraumatized her repeatedly.

Whsn she doesnt ask Sang Yan for help and he has to rush in and help her its not just a dashing romantic moment, its also her doing what she does best. Saving herself alone. The main crux of Wen Yifans arc isnt whether she can to be saved and fixed, its that constantly saving herself is what's been beating her down and her reception of new love is being hindered by it.

The drama makes it a point to show that she is consistently being harmed in places Sang Yan cant even access, like her workplace and her home, and that she has been taking every Correct Step advised and it still hasnt helped her. She's a victim of familial abuse, literal incest (presumedly), and several forms of harassment from a number of places. Her being on survival mode is whats forcing her hand in being unable to connect with people, and as a woman theres many ways in which that Cannot change without societal reform.

Very depressing to see a character whos arc and hurt is being dealt with so delicately recieve responses in this way.. Sang Yan wanting to support her and be there for her is something of a wish fulfillment fantasy but its also a plead for rest. Yifan is so busy saving herself that its chipping away at her soul. She is constantly on guard, she can't even shower without waiting for that hand to creep around the curtain. Romance is not a vehicle to "return" people to what they were, instead the show is pleading for her to truly try trusting all the people in her circle so that she can finally find new joy and create new happiness.

so I started watching The First Frost (on Netflix, how dreadful) and the translators just refused to translate the episode titles ??? Like why? It's clearly important and the writers put effort into them, so why this "creative" choice to just neglect it?

So here I will write down all the starting and ending titles (because I'm a sucker for these things) as I go through the eps, so I can help my fellow viewers out as well as my future self (ik she will re-watch this).

It's so endearing to watch Sang Yan and Yifan being giddy in love because obviously so many years have passed since they were in high school but even so it's like time - their time - froze back then and now the clock has finally started ticking again.

And I think about how this is possible only because Sang Yan never let go of the string that tied them together.

Not those "red string of fate" kind of things, more like that one post I once read on here, the one that goes: "No, we're not soulmates. This is not divine intervention. And this is most certainly not chance. I willed this. I knit the threads of fate myself until they spelled your name. I love you intentionally. I love you with every bit of conscience I was born with."

Sang Yan knit that thread since the very first moment, keeping it alive even when Yifan had cut it off, and after they reunited slowly knit it stronger and stronger until it was strong enough to bind the two of them together again.

Sang Yan truly willed their connection, with every fiber of his being.

Everyone who's ever met Jungkook has talked about how humble and kind and sweet and friendly he is. He helps clean up with the staff, he buys staff things too, he does spontaneous lives for his fans and he's openly said that he's okay with people approaching him if they see him (within reason).

And whilst part of that will be how his parents raised him...your teenage years are hugely influential on what type of person you'll grow into, and what kind of people you surround yourself with are important to that.

What that means, is that teenage Jungkook was basically raised by six other teenage boys of varying ages and backgrounds...and because they were all good, hard working and kind people...it moulded Jungkook into that too. As he said, he could've easily turned into a mean person if they'd been mean because teenagers are so damn impressionable.

And when you look at how universally adored and respected Jungkook is by other idols, the media, the fans and the other members...that's a really great reflection on the kind of people BTS are.

i just saw a video on tiktok of someone complaining about fanfic writers who have the ✨audacity✨ not to complete a fic. that it’s rude, it’s inconsiderate, it’s disrespectful of the readers emotional investment. and then a whole bunch of commenters saying underneath that this is why they won’t read incomplete fics, that they’ve seen authors go from updating every week to horror of horrors only every month. and because i am a wise and mature individual i’m not going to stitch the video dragging them to hell but instead i’m coming here to you beloved tumblr dot com to bitch behind their back

because i know we’ve said this before but the emerging culture of fanfic writers as content creators and readers as consumers is fucking disgusting. it breeds attitudes exactly like this and turns something that is fundamentally anti-capitalist into another cycle of produce compete exploit where your worth is based on how quickly you can meet consumers needs

it’s called archive of our own for a reason. its about repurposing these stories for ourselves, for our own enjoyment and interest whether thats i want to right the wrongs of this author or i want to see what happens if this one tiny plot point changed or i want to make these characters tie each other up and fuck until they cry. its about sharing as a community, leaving these stories in a communal toy box so people who come along in a few months or few years can enjoy them too

tl;dr keep your fucking capitalist little mittens away from our stories

Plus, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, WIPs and forever-incomplete fics are just as worthy of being read as complete ones. Why do readers think a fic isn’t worth their time just because it’s unfinished? I will never understand that attitude. Some of my favorite fics are ones that happen to be unfinished, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t some of the most enjoyable pieces of writing I’ve ever read. And as someone who has some forever-incomplete fics on AO3, it always warms my heart when I get a comment on them.

Incomplete fics and WIPs need your love too! And authors don’t exist just to churn out content for you! We do it for ourselves first and foremost.
