I dont go on here much but I just figured out a scientific explanation for vampires while trying to go to sleep and this website's posts allow for the best formatting so if you even see this be prepared
ANYWAY VAMPIRE SCIENCE TIME MOTHER FUCKERS YEEHAWW
SO
Vampires die to sunlight, so they only go out in the moon. But moonlight is just reflected sunlight. So why do they not die on a full moon?
Because moon rocks dont reflect 100% of sunlight.
Vampires, being "undead" creatures, lack the living human ability to defend against UV. Therefore they get a lot of fuckery from direct sunlight that damages their cells and flesh, making them "burn up" in the day. Thats also why vampires that live for centuries get all blobby and grow warts and get strange disfigurements - it's all fucked up vampire cancer.
Anyway vampires become vampires through being bit by other vampires because they are like a less destructive version of zombies - zombies pass around a curse/virus that infects through bites, eating away at the human brain until their mind is beyond fucked and their flesh falls off in chunks cos the rest of the body believes the brain to be dead. Vampires have the same attack vector, except they dont destroy the host's conscious mind or its body (mostly) - it damages the body's bone marrow such that it cannot make fresh blood anymore hence the blood sucking, and leaves cells in a strange purgatory state that makes them think they're still alive while not actually providing them with as much resources they need to do many tasks like production and maintenance of pigments in skin and hair, and stuff that detects when sunburn happen.
The turn into a bat thing is only with magic vampires, but the brains connection to the nervous system is slightly altered/damaged to reduce the amount of pain the host feels, allowing them to run faster for longer and do things that would otherwise hurt them so much.

Boom, scientific explanation of vampires, sorted.
