ABOUT
Kordelya was the youngest daughter of her mother, Yasmin, and her stepfather, Conrad Clarke, with one older step-brother. Kordelya's father was man called Volkan Özdemir, who had married her mother at an early age. They'd been sweethearts all their lives, and from the little that Kordelya can remember, it was the truest love she'd ever seen — or so she had thought.
When Kordelya was two years old, Volkan made the decision to move the family immigrate to America and live tha American dream he'd heard so much about, in the hopes of opening a world of opportunities for Kordelya. She was his pride and joy, and he was a doting father, he would have done anything for her.
Volkan was an educated man, and it didn't take him long to land himself a job in their new home of Aurora Bay. He began working as an assistant to an investment banking firm, under a man called Conrad Clarke. The Clarkes had resided in Aurora Bay for generations and were heavily known in the circles that Volkan desperately wanted to be in.
Conrad was a married man with a son, but that didn't stop him from making moves on his female colleagues, which is something Volkan picked up on and depised. However, he didn't want to risk being dismissed for speaking up on his boss' behaviour.
Yasmin stayed at home, looking after Kordelya and waiting for the American dream to finally bless them. But she became lonely, and fed up of waiting for something she knew wouldn't happen. She spent her days waiting for her husband to arrive home, but he would always arrive tired and Yasmin was ready for an argument, vile words spoken and doors slammed from them both. Kordelya reguarly witnessed this, awoken from the noise.
One day, Yasmin had come to the office and immediately captured Conrad's attention. Not that she minded — he was charming, and he was rich, and could provide everything her husband couldn't. It was the first time she'd felt affection in a long time the night he'd taken her to dinner, and the first time she'd been touched in what had felt like forever when he'd taken her to the hotel after. She'd told Volkan she'd been meeting and staying over at a new friend's for a girl's night — and he could only have been happy that she had finally found someone to spend time with. Maybe it would have fixed their relationship.
As time went on though, Volkan became more suspicious of Yasmin's whereabouts, and it all came to a blow when Kordelya was five and Yasmin had threatened to leave Volkan for another man. Yet, it wasn't a threat — she and Conrad had a plan. He was in the process of divorcing his wife and ready to move Yasmin and Kordelya into his house on Aurora Bay Drive. However, Volkan wasn't going to give up his family without a fight.
Kordelya doesn't know what happened to her father. Less than a year after that 'threat', she and her mother were moving to the Drive and into a room that was as big as her old house was. Yasmin told Kordelya that her father had returned to Turkey and wanted nothing more to do with either of them, and Conrad had a new assistant, and it was almost as though Volkan didn't exist any more.
Her father was never talked about, and if Kordelya ever brought him up, she was shushed, because he had "abandoned" them. However, she'd never really believed that. She missed him a great deal.
As time went by and one wedding later, Kordelya asked lesser questions and accepted that Conrad was now her step-father. Her birth father becoming a distant memory.
The Clarkes lived comfortably on Aurora Bay Drive and weren't afraid to show how materialistic they were — often choosing quality over quantity, not that quantity was ever an issue.
Kordelya and her step-brother knew they were fortunate to live such an affluent life. Although, her step-brother tended to boast about the gifts they received and became complacent in almost every aspect of his life. It was one of the differences between him and Kordelya, as she still strove to be more than this Clarke name.
During her teenage years, she had ambition, but unfortunately no drive to physically go after it. But the dream of getting out of Aurora Bay one day and making a name for herself continued to exist idly in her mind.
In high school, Kordelya fortunately excelled academically without much effort on her part. However, she often found school dull and preferred the other 'activities' on offer besides attending her classes, such as socializing with her friends, cheer practice, homecoming dances, etc. Although, her teachers would not allow her to forget about her high intellect and often tried to steer her in the direction of more academic pursuits, and extra-curricular items that would stand out on college applications — and help her get out.
One of those extra-curricular activities had been tutoring students that were struggling. She wasn't thrilled with the idea at first, but if it gave her a chance to get out of this town one day, she'd force herself through it.
Kordelya still found time to engage in activites outside of high school, and frequented house parties that often ended up with her grounded for missing curfew or being forced to surrender her phone for a period of time. She didn't care so much, because she knew she'd be able to swing her parents opinions on punishment and receive a much lesser sentence than anticipated.
When she was eighteen however, she found out she was pregnant. It was an unexpected surprise, and unfortunately, she had no idea who the father was. There had been many boys in her life, in quick succession. Never a relationship, and more a quick hookup and string of one night stands. Once she'd found out the news, she reached a point in her life where she didn't know what her future would look like.
Not wanting to get rid of the child, and it being her main priority, the prospects she had for college were lost. She found herself all alone and didn't really know what she was going to do with her life, and truthfully, she didn't care. As long as she was with her child, nothing else mattered.
Fortunately, her step-father had stepped in and made sure that his step-daughter and granddaughter had a roof over their heads — setting them up nicely in Crystal Cove Condominiums. Her parents were supportive, although her mother was worried she was throwing away her future. Kordelya was determined to prove her wrong.
Once her daughter, Eda, was old enough, Kordelya wanted to begin a career and earn her own living, without having Conrad's name on every check and bill.
Despite this, she did use his connections and vast wealth to purchase the Driftwood Coffee Shop, when they were looking for new ownership. But she vowed, after that, never again will she ask for money.
