BIOGRAPHY !
Prem Chakravarti met his future wife, Mina at an event when they were twenty four. Her parents came from money and he was working the event in the catering department. They met and the rest was history. Although their parents didn't approve of the relationship, eventually the two of them left for America to get married and raise future children. They settled into Aurora Bay because it was by the beach and both wanted to live in a decent area outside the bustling cities. Prem worked in the IT industry and Mina got various jobs as front desk attendants while she finished getting her degree in engineering. They settled into their respective fields, saving their money for their future children, but life got busy and Mina didn't end up having her first child until she was nearly thirty four. Rohan first, then eighteen months later, Riya.
Since Rohan and his sister were so close in age, their parents expected them to be close, but the two were nothing alike. Where Riya was social among the other children, Rohan was fine hanging back, watching from the sidelines. Riya played sports, where Rohan was into video games and comic books. The two were constantly at each other bickering and even though their parents would tell them to stop, it really didn't make a difference. As the two grew up, they became more and more different and Rohan eventually stopped trying to make much of an effort to know his sister. Especially when she entered high school a year after him. At first Riya's friends were interested in her older brother but when they met him, they understood why Riya always made fun of him. Rohan did as much as he could to avoid his sister and her friends at school.
Rohan was not the best student in school. Unlike Riya where subjects seemed to come naturally to her, Rohan had to work at his grades. Often his teachers would say the same thing about him: easily distracted and off course. He was curious and interested in subjects that they weren't studying, often going way off subject when writing papers. All his teachers said that he was a very smart student even if his grades never reflected that. Rohan had his own friends in high school, often finding groups to play cards with from Pokemon to Magic to even running a few D&D games. He started a comic book club in school and could rarely be seen without a comic, manga, or graphic novel in his hands. Where his teachers always said he flourished when he was passionate about the subject or time they were studying. Rohan didn't graduate at the top of his class, but he at least brought home better grades than many of his classmates.
When deciding what college to choose, Rohan wanted to explore a bit outside of California and ended up with a pretty decent sized scholarship to University of Texas. Rohan thrived at university. He found his people pretty quickly, joining clubs he was interested in and professors he loved talking to. Rohan knew that he didn't want to do what either of his parents did, so he ended up choosing business as his major. He wasn't sure what he'd do with the career, but Rohan was determined to figure something out. He came home after his freshman year excited to go back to school, for the first time in his life. Thankfully, Riya had chosen a school in California, so Rohan headed back to school on his own. Sophomore year is when he met the woman that would become his future wife: Amirah. When she walked into the comic book club for the first time, Rohan was almost immediately smitten with her. From the way she spoke and carried herself to how passionate she was about comics. They started dating not long after she came to the first club meeting.
After graduating from University of Texas with a master's degree in business, Rohan and Amirah moved back to Aurora Bay so Rohan could be closer to his parents. Rohan got a job at one of the businesses in town and started saving up money to buy an engagement ring. After six years of dating, he knew he wanted to propose to Amirah. She said yes when he finally proposed and the wedding was a year later. Amirah wasn't happy when Rohan wanted to stay with his parents, but by that time his mom was sick and he wanted to make sure to be there to care for them. Rohan used the money he'd been saving up by staying with his parents to buy a storefront in Aurora Bay so he could open a comic book shop. It was his pride and joy. And for a while everything was going well in his life.
By the time Rohan had turned thirty four, both of his parents weren't doing well and Amirah eventually convinced him they belonged in a nursing home because they needed full time care; with both of their jobs it wasn't possible for them to be around all the time. Rohan visited them every day, often bringing them presents. Amirah eventually got a sabbatical with her job in another country; when she told Rohan, he was ecstatic for her, even though he knew he couldn't go with her. Although both of them loved each other and didn't want to break off, they decided to try a long distance relationship. She promised to come back after it was over in five years, but it's been over a year since she was supposed to return and she hasn't. In the six years since Amirah left, Rohan's parents both died. He's spent the last couple of years putting his heart and soul into the shop, hoping that one day his wife will walk through the door to the home his parents left him. They call each other nearly every day and he's still confused on why she's not back even though her sabbatical has ended.
Jaime: I don't think we can fix this
Jaime: because they think we're a COMEDIAN store
Jaime: do you want to start selling props for carrot tops next act? a little expansion maybe?
Jaime: two stars just because one of the guys behind the register is cute but now no one is going to know who they meant so that's a whole thing
Rohan: What the hell would a comedian store sell?
Rohan: Comedians have props? I'd think they'd get those at like... a normal store?
Rohan: We can probably take it down.
Rohan: It's not our fault someone's stupid.
Rohan: I'm making that company policy. Everyone that works here has to be attractive.
"Whoa, that sounds serious." Luca let the subject be entirely away from work stuff for the moment and toward the personal life - something they both likely needed to figure out sometimes on where the line was between the two.
"That's definitely not okay though. What's going on there?"
"Not as serious as it sounds, I promise." He didn't want to talk about work really. There was always time for that and it never really changed. Connection with people who understood the balance between work and personal life was nice. He wished that it was easier to do.
"I just... don't know what is happening with my wife. She won't answer my calls." Rohan wished that she'd just answer him. If something happened, if she wasn't happy in the relationship, if she'd found something new. Rohan didn't know.
"Really?" Bradley asks, attention turning to the fireworks shooting off before glancing back at Rohan.
"Makes sense, I suppose."
Bradley had only really grown up around her childhood dog, and he'd been like a teddybear, feared nothing. Lived a life of steaks, pool swims, and snoozing in his own bedroom.
Sometimes he didn't think that Bread was an actual dog but a demon disguised as a dog. Most dogs didn't act like him. Although naming his dog Bread probably didn't do him any favors. Rohan made sure that all the curtains were open in his house so his dog could watch them.
"I think he's just weird. But better weird and not scared than weird and scared. I've seen dogs that eat their way through doors when they're scared."
Tell me how differently you sleep when you’re alone compared to when someone else is in the room with you.
“Uhhhh Bread is allowed on the bed? My wife wasn’t a fan of that which I get. He likes burrowing and there’s a few nights I’ve woken up freaked at something moving at my feet. Other than that? Sometimes I fall asleep in my work clothes.”
Hollyhock - What are your muse’s limits, if any, when it comes to chasing after their ambitions?
"I mean I'm not going to hurt anyone or sell my soul to a demon. I don't think my ambitions are all that big. I just want to run my store and take care of my dog. That doesn't seem all that ambitious to me."
“ that is actually kind of surprising. That reminds me of how my niece once cried cause a balloon popped which is completely normal. But now she likes to pop balloons. I don’t know what happened but she clearly got over her fear “ @rohanchakravarti
"I think there's a reason for that, but I don't know what it is." Rohan couldn't remember the reason for it from his college says. There had been something about that in developmental psychology. "Maybe she just got used to it? I don't know how often you're popping balloons around them."
"That's so cute. And a nice change, I usually feel so bad for pets that have to put up with the sounds and the bright lights. Bread must feel safe enough with you that he's not afraid of anything."
"Yeah, I mean he's kind of old, so maybe that has something to do with it. Someone told me he might not have much hearing. But also maybe it's just that he's never been near them before." He was scared of trucks backfiring. "Bread is a strange dog."
"I..." Isabela says, hesitation lacing her voice. She had always been one to preach trying everything at least once. And yeah, a roller coaster built in a single say was absolutely terrifying, but so was being a hypocrite in her book. Crossing her arms, she looked over. "I guess I'm in. But you have to promise we're getting a loaded funnel cake after this."
Honestly, Rohan had a lot to live for, even if his personal life was a mess, but sometimes he liked to live on the edge. That was one of the reasons his sister had been so mean to him as a kid: he never took chances. But in college, he changed. "Funnel cake it is. Are you one of those people that likes the funny flavored ones or are you a powdered sugar only kind of person?"
"I literally don't understand how anyone can come to one of these events and like not leave with a dog."
A desire she was battling with even though she had her hands full with the one they already had--literally full, Marky bundled and squirming in Cricket's arms so she too could see the puppies currently in the gated adoption area.
"I'm pretty sure if I got a dog, Bread would throw a fit." Rohan looked at all the dogs. There wasn't harm in looking at dogs even if he knew that Bread would probably not enjoy being the second dog in a household.
"Yeah, Bread's my only dog. He's like a child himself. More work honestly. He's a bit of a brat."
"Is there any chance that he's hard of hearing? My dog is kinda deaf in one ear and they don't bother him much either. Then again, he lived through my daughter's colic and was maybe the only living being in the house that didn't go insane, so maybe he's just used to incessant noise." @rohanchakravarti
"Hmmm maybe he is. I don't think I've ever tested it before. He does come when I call him, so I know he's at least somewhat able to understand me. Don't dogs have like superhuman level hearing? Bread weirdly does get scared of thunder." Rohan thought for a minute. "What kind of dog do you have?"
"I'm excited for you, man. That sounds incredibly fun if you could manage to get that going." The nice thing was that generally the business owners in town were supportive of one another and open to trying out different things both separately and together. "I will absolutely stop by, either for that or for just playing games in general," Luca confirmed. And he meant it, it would be fun to do something out of his usual routine once in awhile.
"All else good though, when you're not working, making plans or playing Red Dead?"
"I'm going to try. It's already busy enough as it is with everything going on." Running a business was complicated enough, but he knew that Luca knew that. "We'll see, but I'll tell you if we can get it going." Maybe he'd get some help from his employees. A nice raise for anyone who wanted it. "I love games just as much as I like comics." He needed new projects to keep him busy.
"I guess. I mean like nothing outside the norm." He sighed. "My personal life is falling apart. Like really falling apart. It's okay though."
"They do not make winning these prizes easy." Gianna said, handing the vendor another $10 to get yet another round at the ring toss. "I'd settle for one of those tiny bunnies at this point."
"No, that's kind of the point though." Rohan looked at the prizes and spotted the bunny. "I'd say I can help you, but my hand eye coordination doesn't really work for anything outside video games." Rohan looked at the game again.
