i love how whenever percy jackson’s in a life or death situation, he always thinks about annabeth and how they could go on a nice little date or picnic afterwards if he survives. i love this boy. always thinking about his girlfriend
whenever someone i know asks me what my job is, my brain automatically thinks of a scenario just like this, discrediting the decency of my job as if it's a shame. 😕

Annabeth was sure that she’d never hated Percy Jackson more in her life than she did right at this moment. Her wonderful boyfriend had insisted on taking her ice skating as soon as the rinks started opening around New York. Annabeth had never skated in her life and when she said as much to him, Percy had laughed and teased her, saying that there was something Annabeth couldn’t do, calling it a miracle.
So of course, Annabeth's pride had flared into life, she told Percy that she could in fact skate, she could roller skate after all and surely there couldn’t be much of a difference. Percy had looked at her with an amused expression on his face and agreed with her. She should have taken the look on his face as a warning.
It was safe to say that Annabeth couldn’t skate. She had fallen over about 4 times already and it was safe to say that she was not having a good time. It wasn’t too different to roller skating, she did admit. However. There was the added issue of it being cold. And wet. And slippery. Percy (the little shit) seemed to be having no issue skating, he’s probably been going skating every Christmas his whole life Annabeth thought bitterly as she tentatively moved away from the wall and pushed off with one foot. Heading towards the middle of the rink.
She was doing fine, until she made the mistake of glancing to the side and watching a group of kids wrapped up in big jackets and hats pulled over their ears, try to skate, before eventually just skating into one another knocking themselves down like dominoes. Annabeth nearly laughed out loud at the surprised looks on their faces as they fell over. Which of course was a mistake she lost focus on what she was doing, and of course because she lost focus Annabeth immediately began to feel out of control and panicked. Flailing out with her arms she grabbed onto the nearest thing and steadied herself. She steadied her breath for a moment, feeling the moment of panic drain away. She then realised she had probably grabbed onto a stranger. Annabeth looked up at who she’d accidentally grabbed. It was a young woman, short and chubby, with pretty brown eyes and curly hair.
“Oh, sorry” Annabeth said quickly, letting go of the womans arm. The woman laughed, dimples appearing in her dark cheeks.
“It's fine love,” She said, in a thick New York accent, “you looked like you needed some help anyway” Annabeth looked sheepishly down at her skates, silently cursing Percy for making her come here, stamping down the little voice in the back of her head that had piped up saying that she had told Percy she knew how to skate, not that he had believed her, he knew she couldn’t ice skate but they both had refused to back down and that had landed her here. “Do you want some help getting over to the side?”
Annabeth nodded, feeling a blush rising to her already pink cheeks. The woman took by the arm and slowly began skating over to the nearest wall, “here you go” she let go of Annabeth's arm to let her hold onto the wall.
“Thanks” she said, flashing the woman a small smile. The woman patted her on the arm before skating off back towards the middle of the rink. Where she was met by a little boy that had the same dark skin and hair. He said something excitedly to her and the woman laughed. She took his hand, skating backwards and pulling the little boy in circles.
“How are you holding up?” Annabeth clumsily spun around to face her smug looking boyfriend. She narrowed her eyes and shoved his chest.
“I hate you. so much. Don’t even talk to me” Percy laughed and slung an arm over her shoulder, nudging her check with his nose. Annabeth yelped and squirmed away from him.
“I’m not sure you do” he said, that infuriating smirk sitting on his lips. Annabeth glared at him. Crossing her arms over her chest she tried her best to look down her nose at him. She wasn’t sure how effective it was given he was at least 4 inches taller than her. “How many times have you fallen over?” 4 technically 5, her mind answered.
“Twice,” she replied. Percy raised an eyebrow.
“Are we counting that last time when you grabbed that poor lady's arm and she brought you over here?” Annabeth flushed. She didn’t know he’d seen that.
“No,” she muttered, “Have you been watching this whole time?‘
Percy laughed again, it was a carefree, easy going, laugh, the one that radiates pure joy and happiness. It made Annabeth feel warm all over. “Not the whole time, just long enough”
“You ass hole,” she said, shoving him again “you could have been helping me instead of just watching me fall over constantly” Annabeth pouted.
“I could have,” he conceded “but where's the fun in that, besides it not like you're hurt.” He studied her for a moment. “Well maybe your pride’s a bit bruised but if anything that's a benefit for me” Percy grinned at her. She had the sudden urge to kiss that stupid grin off his face. That thought was quickly squashed before it could spiral into something else entirely.
“I think I broke my tailbone,” she grumbled.
“You’ll be fine,” Percy said laughing, “come on I’ll help you this time” He took her hands and began guiding her around the rink, pulling her behind him as he skated around the rink. She tried to glare at him, but that was becoming increasingly difficult as his face split into a look of child-like joy. He beamed at her as she struggled to keep up. Her face softened and she rolled her eyes at him, instead choosing to focus on making sure she didn’t trip and face plant for now.
It was a few hours before she managed to pull Percy off the ice. She grumbled about being cold and having a sore tailbone the whole time they were returning their skates. Percy however was grinning and laughing at, well, her obviously, but also just in general. He looked so happy, that she couldn’t really bring herself to be too annoyed. Especially when he took her out to get hot chocolate that had so much chocolate and cream in it that she felt like she might go into a sugar coma just by looking in it.
The hot chocolate tasted amazing but she can wholeheartedly say that it tasted a million times better on his lips later that night.
no because it IS about how percy and annabeth never said it directly but showed up for each other in the ways that mattered. annabeth never even considered that she wasn't right with percy the whole time. percy never even considered annabeth not being a part of his efforts. they never said a word but always new the other person was right there when they needed each other and thats why they work the way they do
