funny thing about that last post is that they are interchangeable. it just depends entirely on the timeline:

pre - encourter : sterling is orestes and annette is pylades because she is the only person who can understand sterling in his worst moments and his self - doubts.

post - encounter : sterling is pylades and annette is orestes because between the two of them, sterling has kept more of his sanity than annette and her situation is not revolting to him. he understands completely,
