I see the signs of a lifetime, you ‘til I die.
Something I really enjoyed in Heartstopper is how they subtley show the effect using presumptive heternormative language can have on your child.
So often with Nick and his mum she uses heterosexuality as a default, whether it's talking about him only watching a film because he fancied the female actress or saying things like "the right girl will come along" when he's discussing relationships. These things can unintentionally create an environment for your child where they feel perhaps you may not be supportive to them if they were to feel differently. I also love that Nick's Mum acknowledges this by saying "I'm so sorry if I ever made you feel like you couldn't tell me that". She knows that even though she would never have been unsupportive should he come out, she feels guilty that the things she's said in the past might have made him worried for her reaction.
Using the word "person" rather than assuming a gendered preference when discussing love and relationships while your kid is growing up is so important. My daughter is 5 and I always try to use inclusive language with her in the hopes that no matter who she chooses to love or if she chooses to love at all, she knows she will have my support.
Finishing Heartstopper as an adult like
There are 2 little things just in that first episode that I think are so indicative of Nick Nelson's character:
The 'I can give you the answer' 'but then I won't learn' exchange is so telltale of Nick's approach to life generally. And it's reflected in his arc throughout the show too. Of course he's going through a lot, and he has a lot to figure out, but he never shies away from the journey. He's scared, but he's so ready to learn more about himself and that's just all in that line in the first episode
Also, the smiley face on Charlie's hand. Because sometimes, there are bumps along the way. But you can still always make something beautiful, and when Nick makes a mistake he does what he can to make it right. He does not try to erase it, just does his best to do better, and to make that mistake count for something.
Just watch that tiny little scene from the 1rst episode, and that's Nick Nelson for you. Way to introduce a character
This is just the sweetest observation ever
media will make u go Wow i wish i was 15 again and then u will think wow what the hell fuck am i even saying. for gods sake No i dont
#character figuring out he is bisexual bathed in bisexual lighting gotta be my favourite genre
When people call you a “snowflake” just remember they’re quoting Fight Club, a satire written by a gay man about how male fragility causes men to destroy themselves, resent society, and become radicalized, and that Tyler Durden isn’t the hero but a personification of the main character’s mental illness, and that his “snowflake” speech is a dig at how fascists use dehumanizing language to breed loyalty from insecure people.
So basically people who say “snowflake” as an insult are quoting a domestic terrorist who blows up skyscrapers because he’s insecure about how good he is in bed.
Actual photos of me watching this finale
I want my life back. All the time I wasted in this show.
This is it. This is the whole show.
Hate it.
A friend sent this picture to me, said it was from the Woman’s March in Albany.

anti-sjws for the last 10 years: feminazis, feminazis, feminazis, feminazis, nazi nazi, sjw's are nazis, nazi nazi nazi, grammar nazi, feminazi feminazi
normal sensible attractive people: these real life people are actually real life nazis and hold nazi beliefs and want to kill minorities
anti-sjws: thats pretty fucking fucked up that you just call anything you disagree with a nazi, like i think thats pretty wild of the 'tolerant left' to do
Normally I gif my favorite scenes. But this would not be the same without the audio. The harmonizing!
THIS WAS SUCH A PERFECT MOMENT
