little fun fact about me- i actually named bittersweetshipping i just dont really mention it but mallow and lana are lesbians and i love them- OH ALSO if you are wondering where the name comes from it comes from the episode "tasting the bitter with the sweet" and also the haban berry. the two both got pretty close thanks to it and they both say its "bittersweet" or at least one of them do (i forget). so i just went yea lets name it bittersweetshipping- and everyone who i told kinda just went yea thats a cool name- so here we are now (also i didnt know the ship went by aquariumplantshipping at the time so i came up with it to call mallow/lana something)

An asexual’s body is perfectly functional. It reacts to touch just like anyone else’s, meaning, an asexual will experience physical arousal and likely feel appropriate pleasure from sex when touched in a way that feels good to them personally. Asexuality isn’t the lack of sexual functions, it’s the lack of sexual attraction only, and sex can be present without specific attraction. For example, a sex positive asexual might have a what appears to be a quite active sex life for other reasons than attraction solely; emotional bonding, physical pleasure, relaxation and fun are just some reasons to like sex, even with the “kicker” being gone from the act.

The lack of sexual attraction doesn’t automatically mean a partner is undesirable to an ace - it just means they aren’t specifically attractive in that certain way. Other motivations may take over, or they may not.

With a quick caveat- some ace people come to the ace lable specifically bc they “feel nothing” re: sexual stimulus. Or what they feel is “meh” and therefore not anything worth pursuing.

Its starting to split hairs, but the ace label already holds room for LOTS of contradiction. You’re not wrong for id'ing as Ace bc you have a really low libido and therefore never develope sexual attraction to people. And its especially important to recognize that as normal bc its the part doctors will most likely attempt to “fix”.

Asexuality with a trauma root, Asexuality with a low libido root, Asexuality with “I just don’t like having sex” as the gateway, are all super common and under the umbrella.

“Attraction Not Actions” is meant to make it a welcoming umbrella to Aces like those mentioned above who are Ace but sex positive (or sex neutral or hypersexual or sex workers etc). But its NOT meant to exclude people who gravitated to the lable bc they ARE sex averse.

Sex aversion from trauma, low libido, mental illness, dysmorphia etc etc are all super common gateways. Not Wanting Sex is often the first recognizable sign that You Might Be Ace. And then it takes sometime to filter out if you ACTUALLY don’t feel sexual attraction, or if perhaps something else is in play. But during that time, the Ace Community is a welcoming place to figure it out!
