give love to ongoing fics too. not just one shots or completed works.

while “writers write for themselves first and foremost” and “fanfic reading is a form of self care and no reader should feel pressured to kudos or comment on the fic they read” are both true, kudos and positive comments are still so appreciated. and as a fellow writer, I can tell for a fact that while I do write for myself and my own enjoyment, seeing lovely comments from my readers always motivates me to write more and write faster.

unfortunately some people choose to avoid ongoing fics because they either want to wait for the whole thing to get posted first or they’re afraid writers will abandon the works and leave those works unfinished. but the thing is that if you want long, multi-chapter fics, letting writers know you love and appreciate their hard works by giving them kudos and commenting nice things on their ongoing fics will almost definitely always motivate writers to write. and also, writing can be hard. I know writers who pull all-nighters doing researches on their fics. I know writers who put so much time, effort and dedication into their fics. the fics they allow people to read for free. please let them know you love and appreciate their works if you can, especially with the raise of bots (it can be super discouraging for a writer to see that the only comments their fics get are from bots and scam).

kudos and comments help writers write more fics. appreciate fanfic writers. appreciate fan artists. appreciate ongoing fics.

ghosttotheparty - i have read every single one of this wonderful person's fics and have all of them downloaded and saved and i frequently reread them and they post fairly frequently!!! they have 12 heated rivalry fics up so far but my top three by them is probably:

blood on the ice - ilya gets hurt instead of shane and ohhh boy is the angst fucking tasty.

маскировка - canon divergent take on the hospital scene, ilya runs into yuna and david at the hospital. these boys are in love and yuna's boy mom brain latches on to ilya immediately. adore it.

heavy handed - beautiful character study of shane hollander and his eating habits, autism, and OCD. codependent hollanov is glorious.

hcneymooners (romqntics) - four works up at the moment, has posted monthly since the end of the show, longer one shots. their prose is so fucking pretty and it makes me INSANE. you can find all of their hollanov fics in this series collection:

boopboop - i have been following this author for a few years across fandoms. when i tell you i screamed and sobbed when they posted a hollanov fic. ohhh my god. i love their writing style, i love their character work. honest to god i am jealous of their character work, like, how do you do that? they have about eight hollanov fics up and are currently writing a multi-chapter fic and posting updates to a series. i cannot tell you how obessed i am with this author. now go read this series:

He was begging to fuck shane for 2 solid years before he got to. Hes dedicated. Hes loyal. Hes funny.

I love this guy so much.

the little scene between langdon amd mckay was so... here is some coworker who you've never been close with, someone who is older than what you normally expect from a resident. she has a son and she was involved in something that warranted a daily check from the police. you don't know her that much, your cases never matched each other. here you two are in the mess of going analog, and you're so stressed about your first day and your boss just said he didn't want you in your ER and you are still in your rehabilitation process. you make small talk and she says, 9 years and counting. this woman you have never paid attention to, who you mostly know because of her clashes with robby, she was an addict and got sober, and now most of her coworkers don't even know her history. what an assuring thought. one day you will not be defined by your fuck up, one day your story will only be known not as a cautionary tale but as a comfort, as the future of someone in the beginning of their journey. how kind of cassie to show that light to frank.

It’s very important to me that the Heated Rivalry story presents Shane and Ilya with two perfect women. Rose is sweet and confident and beautiful and understands hockey as well as the spotlight and pressure that Shane is under. They get along so well and make each other laugh and they develop a true bond. Svetlana is bold and sexy and brilliant and charming. She is Russian with a clear interest for hockey and fast luxury cars and clubbing, offering a connection and ease in Ilya’s life he can’t have with anyone else. Their lives are enhanced by having Rose and Svetlana in their circle. Yet neither of these “perfect” women is the key to making Shane or Ilya happy, because they have a true connection with someone who is not perfect on paper, but who fits together with them like a puzzle piece they didn’t even know to be looking for. And it’s a great message that not only are bonds outside of romantic love important, but that love can’t be planned to the most reasonable checklist of our preconceived expectations.
