I know this conversation has been had, but I still see a lot of people online taking Notes on Racial Phylogeny at face value, so in case anyone needs to hear it, here is a reminder that the fictional, in-universe authors of racial phylogeny are eugenicist Imperial scholars using incomplete information, stating things that are provably false, and showing their biases by consistently using dehumanizing language to talk about Orcs and beast races.

Racial Phylogeny is a set piece that demonstrates the dominance of colonial perspectives in academia within the Elder Scrolls setting, and it is not a delivery mechanism through which the real world authors are telling you that mixed race children all take after their moms. Even if that was the original intention, there is no textual evidence that it should be read that way.

As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.

Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.
