I think komaeda and kamukura probably disliked each other a lot but kamukura is his weird stupid cat that he keeps following around and komaeda is his scruffy ass stray dog and theyre both like tch this guy sucks and then it leads to gay kissing in abandoned buildings.

DR3 really fucks up the consistency of komaeda's characterization imo so I've chosen to cherry pick it to be honest but anyway I think it would make more sense for komaeda's initial impression of kamukura to be disgust turned fascination.

cause part of his core belief system is that hope/talent is inherent and cannot be gained, only tested and lured out. so for it to be created in a lab by other ultimates is a great conundrum. in a way they've done what he attempts to do, draw out the talent of someone else, but their methods were much more invasive and calculated. he is the trickster, the jester, a royal advisor who does as he pleases without fear of consequence for the betterment of the kingdom, but hope's peak is the god with a capital G that bestows the crown.

what they've done is amazing, a true test of the limits of humanity. but its also disgusting, a perversion of the very ideals keeping him together. I think much like his views of junko he would feel rather contradictory about izuru's creation.

kamukura on the other hand I see as a largely passive figure. he lets things happen to him, so I don't see why he wouldn't let komaeda follow along. he's familiar, but perhaps not in a bad way. how long does a stray need to follow you before you start anticipating its presence? feeling nearly disappointed when it doesn't follow you home, whether for fondness or just expectation.
