IAN McDIARMID as EMPEROR PALPATINE on the set of Obi-Wan Kenobi | Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return (2022)
Well, it's been a while. I'm back on my bullshit. I still love the Sheevster.
I still make no excuses or justifications for his actions.
palpatine’s role in RotS is so interesting because like, obviously he’s the Big Bad Who Turns Anakin To The Dark Side, but it’s so much more than that.
originally, after watching it as an adult for the first time, i figured that palpatine had used the force to help him mold & manipulate anakin. it seemed like the logical thing, and also a Very Villain Move, and also it’s star wars and everything revolves around the force so of course he would use it to help get his way. it also makes sense thematically, seeing as the force is an allegory for power, specifically in the prequel trilogy.
but i’ve decided that, no, palpatine didn’t use the force even once during his plight to turn anakin. because, even though using the force would have been a Classic Star Wars Villain Move, the entire point is that palpatine doesn’t need it to get what he wants in this particular case.
palpatine is an incredibly powerful sith lord, yes, but he is also a politician and a master manipulator. he doesn’t see the point in using all the energy it takes to use the force for a task that he knows full well he can pull off without it. he is powerful in the force, but also extremely calculating in his every word - he knows what makes anakin tick, and how to break him down until he feels that palpatine is his only salvation.
everything palpatine does is done intentionally, and very much without the force, which, in my opinion, is what makes him such a sinister and disturbing character.
I've seen it. I have mixed feelings (no spoilers from me) but Ian McDiarmid and Sheev Palpatine are legendary and always will be.
It's even better when you imagine Sheev saying it omg.

I bloody love that egotistical old shit.

First attempt to post art on here. So it may or may not work right… xD Young Sheev Palpatine of Naboo, people. It’s a work in progress, but I thought I might as well post it and see what happens. :D
