YES i’m a postgrad statistics researcher and i can tell you that the state honestly has NO IDEA what to do with the data it collects, it has an obsession with big data but it’s almost impossible to work with in practice. the traditional statistical approaches that are used can’t be scaled up, the adapted approaches are substantially weakened, and the machine learning approaches have the same problems and often tell them nothing. data scientists are only just coming around to these issues too, most still just push on with it anyway - incompetence is the word. above all this though, like you say, the biggest issue for the state is at the point of data collection. they will NEVER get anything useful if they’re collecting shitty messy data. they will eventually figure out that the real solution is working how to collect accurate and meaningful data, we should make it as difficult as possible for them to do that

TrackMeNot automatically does randomly generated searches on a variety of search engines to obscure your real searches and fuck with analytics, and you can set it up to work with anything that has a search bar (including facebook, twitter, amazon, youtube, etc)

WhatCampaign replaces analytics parameters in links with the string “FuckOff”. I thought there was a similar extension that used random strings, but I can’t seem to find it

Privacy Possum is a fork of Privacy Badger with a focus on costing tracking companies as much money as possible, and idk if my limited tech knowledge is enough to understand what it does but the description does say it falsifies some data so that’s good enough for me

the craziest thing supernatural ever did was create a dynamic off the bat that is the product of 22 years of so much history and complexity and trauma and never quite paint an entirely clear picture of what went on in those 22 years, instead gesturing vaguely at it as a mysterious entity and/or monster in the dark while heaping nearly 22 more years of history complexity and trauma upon these characters, the impact of which is also underexplored and vaguely gestured at.

likeeee the crazy thing about supernatural is that, as a tv show without a strict plan (even during the kripke era they were flying by the seat of their pants lbr), pre-series lore is constantly changing to fit the whims/needs of episodes and plot structure. they spent their whole childhood hunting but at the start of the show don’t seem to know what any monsters are. john had all these friends that he never told them about, except for the ones that he did. depending on which writer during which season you ask bobby was either their pseudo dad during childhood or just Some Guy they met one time. they were constantly moving around but somehow sam had time to win little league trophies, had enough of a highschool record to get into a top ten college. they’ve never been to the grand canyon, dad took them when they were young. Of course this is all the result of the network television format not allowing for long term structure but in a way it perfectly fits the underlying themes that the show sets out in the very beginning - fundamentally the only consistent thing these two have ever had was each other. what matters is not the exactitudes of how they got that way but that they did and they are and I think that’s part of what makes this show such a fun sandbox to play around in

Honestly my best advice for any trans woman coming here from Twitter is to obviously install shinigami eyes so that you can tell who's a crypto terf or whatever. But also to genuinely just search terf and radfem keywords and just go down the list and block like 300 people.

And then to take that a step further (because no amount of blocking is enough unfortunately) when they start interacting with your content, don't just block that person, take the time to go through their blog and block who they reblog from. Then if you notice one name popping up in the notes more than usual, go to that person's blog and do the same thing.

Deny then access. Don't prune the weeds, scorch the earth.
