Den e tempunan ei (2016) "Back in the day when things were better" is what everyone at one point says. When the music was better, when the people were better, when everything was better. Things can always be better, but to assume constantly that the present isn't will drive you mad. That's why I decided to use old Antillean songs as my inspiration at random. To make connections that don't exist, only real connection is Curacao.
Art history books keep telling us, that an artist should be of his time. I believe an artist should also be of his land. It’s the land that you were created on, It’s the land that felt your first steps, It’s the land that nourished you, It’s the land that felt your first tear. To deny its importance, is like denying the importance of the air that you breath and need. The water you drink, The people you love, The trees, The animals, Yourself. Don’t get me wrong, but I do believe an artist should leave her or his land. To learn to love another’s land, To realize the similarities, To realize the differences. To learn to look at their own land in a different perspective. To be able to see it faults, To be able to see its beauty.
