Guy comes in at the last second with his daughter. Daughter asks if the restrooms are open. Closed for the night, I tell her. There is a public one thats open across the street. She is a millenial. She accepts this. Her father does not.

He berates her, when she relays the information to him. As if she just wasnt forceful enough when she asked. He comes to me, a jovial mask on his face. Excuse me, he asks, do you have a restroom.

Closed for the night.

He laughs, tells me they’re not closed, they can’t be closed. I say, sorry, they are closed, and I don’t know the code to get in they change it at the end of the night and no one but the sup knows what it is. He is speechless when he realizes I am serious.

They sit down at one of the tables.

I make their drinks and call them out.

He looks at me.

Your hot chocolates, I say, they’re right here. I point. I placed them on the hand off counter, where drinks are handed off. They are right here.

And we are over here, the old man shouts. He wants me to bring his drinks to him.

So I see, I tell him. I get to work on the pre-closing routines. Leave his drinks there. He gets up, gets them.

“You’re don’t even have a bathroom,” he shouts at me. Red face of anger.

His daughter looks so embarrassed. They leave, I lock up behind them.
