A lot of fanvids either have the sound effects and speech lines overpower the actual music. This is one of the rare few when it’s actually properly edited to match the beat, and doesn’t rely on “oh, it’s that line you like! And that other line!”

the guy in my pfp is nomiya from this manga called 'real' which i read a little while ago, its drawn by the same manga artist of slam dunk + vagabond. and its a story written around wheelchair basketball and other much deeper contexts (i had no idea wheelchair basketball was a thing before i picked this manga up!!)
it honestly has such a raw, mature portrayal of physical disabilities and the mental struggles that come with it, and i think this manga literally changed my life bro...i love it with all my heart 😭😭
its been ongoing since 1999 (?) and i wish more chapters would come out regularly because pls i love it so much. anyways, i really love nomiyas character so much, i think he may be one of my fav manga protagonists ever...hes so well written that UGH i cant put into words yall but please go read this if you can i loved it so much 😢😢😢😢

This! Ok, so I don't like the artstyle that much - it's okay and that's it - but it gets the points for the plot!
The plot density for a 100 chaps in a manga vs 100 chaps in a webtoon can't be compared
And yes, not my taste because it's dark depressing realism with all problems included instead of my favoured bloody psycho adventures however it's objectively good. Think Haikyuu lvl of good but darker seinen with a focus on specific disabilities
Solid 8/10. Because I personally don't like that art style. Even if it has its moments - diversity in characters for one thing. That's a typical problem with webtoons imo - the characters look way too similar to each other and to other webtoons' characters. Not always but way too often
A good choice if anyone is looking for a darker sports+slice of life seinen. Lwk reminds me of regatta, idk why

I read way too much heated rivalry fanfic, and I can always tell when an author is Canadian.
Now it’s fanfic, and it doesn’t really matter, but there’s a few key words that always take me out for a second because they’re very not Canadian.
So here is a short list of Canadianism that might help when writing HR fanfics!
We say “washroom” (which is the truly Canadian word) or “bathroom”. We do NOT say “restroom” (this is so silly but it bothers me lol)
We say “pop” not “soda”, if Shane is talking about ginger ale being his favourite drink, it’s POP!
“Runners” for running shoes
“Toque” (I feel like more people know this one, but it’s a winter hat)
Not so much a slang, but I haven’t seen any fics take advantage of the fact that the Canadian one dollar coin has a loon on it, and is called a loonie. ( also i do think that Ilya would make fun of the fact that the two dollar coin is called a “toonie”😂)
Typically people won’t say “Tim Horton’s” you’ll hear “Timmie’s”
In Ontario, the liquor store is called the LCBO, sometimes affectionately called “lickbo”
“Give’er” is a funny one, meaning like “give it your all”. I feel like older people say it more, my dad said it a lot when teaching me to drive lol. Definitely used by hockey parents
There are more but I think these are the most relevant ones. Please add to this if you can think of others!

Sorry I can’t believe I forgot to address the Quebecois of it all.
I know people are just translating things to French, and therefore get France French when they want to use the language in their fics. But Canadians French is really different!
Some important ones:
Swear words! Wayyyy different, most quebecois swears are based around the church. The most common are “tabarnak” (generalized curse, when angry, shocked etc. definitely the more imfamous), “câlice” (angry swear), “Crisse” (like Christ basically), they also use “merde” (shit) like in France, but it is often spelled “marde”. You can combine things like “câlice de marde” for extra emphasis. - I’m serious this is the most important one, I do not want to see JJ saying “putain” anymore!!!!
“La fin de semaine” is used for “weekend” unlike in France
CHUM!!!! A favourite of mine, it means boyfriend. I needdddd JJ or Shane referring to Ilya as his “chum”, it’s so cute. (The girlfriend equivalent is “blonde” - regardless of hair colour lol)
There’s some anglicisms that creep in, so “avoir du fun” for “have fun” and “c’est cute” for “that’s cute”
They use “un char” for “car” rather than “une voiture”
The meal names are different, I won’t get into it but in Quebec it’s “déjeuner” - breakfast, “dîner” - lunch, “souper” - dinner.
“Icitte” is sometimes used instead of “ici” to mean “here”
Okay! I will stop myself before I get carried away! But there’s a lot more, and I recommend looking up quebecois terms online. It’s a really fun and beautiful dialect of French!
That is super interesting (loonie toonie is hilarious, Ilia would totally think he is being pranked cause it sounds like a joke lmfao and I think I saw a fic that mentioned it), makes sense canadian slang would be different from american, never thought about it. Smh british vs american was obvious and I have encountered aussie monstrosities before but canadian slipped right past
To be clear - not in the fandom, vaguely follow it on tumblr bc moots like it, so never wrote for it. However I don't think I ever fine tuned slang to that extent in the first place for any fandom cause it's a bit hard to remember which words go to which part of the world when ya mostly see them in ff in the first place. Say "cuppa" or "bugger it all" or "mate" are british - bc sherlock and hp. Buuuut for most of the words I, at least, can't remember the source at all (not a very good memory)
It would be neat if pple used location and time -relevant slang for when characters are talking with each other (the number of times I saw bbc merlin characters use specific hours like 3pm or weeks is yeeeah. When no one has clocks, it all ties to the sun and candles dang it but candles are expensive, so peasants went with sun) but keeping it up for the whole body of text would be hard without being able to talk in that "slang"
Ummm, point is, OP - ya set a high bar lol. All the kudos to whoever clears it though, the effort is appreciated. Like getting cake with exactly the right frills on top of it. Have read fics like that, they are absolute treasures
Oh and French. Yeah, unless there is a specific translator into canadian french (is there?) - it would be hard to use anything other than single word swears imo.

P.s. more funny canadian slang is so welcome for the giggles (and dedicated writers), is there another loonie toonie hiding there? What do you call the short distance trains? Are there also slang names for the airports? Are cops in canada pigs or are ya lot nice about it? Also bet ya got lots of slang for snow and ice. Like, I can think of 3 off the top of my head. And Canada is fairly big, surely it also depends on the region...
p.p.s. can tell apart american and british in writing (it can be rly obvious) but would never be able to use either one consistently myself. At least not without reading a shit ton of ff in just 1 of them to adjust the vocab

It’s kinda hilarious to me how down with murder Merlin is. Like I feel like most shows, especially family shows, have the character at least be morally conflicted about killing. If not out right refusing to kill.
Merlin does not give two shits. He murks someone in the first episode, zero conflict. His body count must be at least in the thousands by the end of the show (considering he took out a whole army). But let’s not forget all the up close and personal murders he commits.
I recently rewatched the changeling, and in that episode in quick succession he kills Grunhilda, the Sidhe and then gives Gaius a look like “do I need to do everything myself?” And gives Elena the potion. ZERO fucks given, he is so unfazed. Merlin is always down for murder. It’s so funny.

I totally understand why not everyone would like Tears on a Withered Flower. I, in fact, am super behind on it because it started to bore me, but I literally can never figure out people who keep reading it for ages and then complain when it's about something that was in it from the start.
If you don't like stories about partner abuse, why are you reading something that's entire premise is based on a woman getting out of an abusive relationship? If you don't like stories about stalking, why are you getting like 60 issues in before complaining when one of the first things we know about the ML is he's a stalker?
I mean, it happens with lots of other things ofc, but for some reason this comic in particular I keep seeing people act shocked, shocked! it had shit that was in the very first issue like they're being totally reasonable and normal.
Mostly? The curiosity on how it ends
(Sometimes the art is better than the plot, sometimes there is hope for things to improve be it character development or translation or whatever else)
And some unfortunate souls have to finish whatever they started unless they wanna have the thing living in their brain rent free. Forever. Even if the thing is not good. Completed ones get digested and purged out pretty fast unless they were brilliant or made an impression
I drop stuff but it has to put me off completely on the first 10 chapters, it happens but very rarely. Say, if this webtoon is 5/10, for me to drop smth it has to rank 2/10 right from the start and not improve within 10 chaps.
P.s. ya def didn't see my coms cause I never get accs to leave them (and only read them when a hiatus comes up or I want to figure out novel chaps)

srsly, why not make tae-ha 19 and it would be a better moral conflict. Legal age in korea is 20 faik, so making this lying stalker with a crush just this side of underage while being a grown up man would make for a more interesting story
