she had a habit of getting distracted, it wasn’t much of a problem seeing how she always managed to create a space of at least five feet or more from her. maybe it could be a gift but no matter how much time she spent drifting off into dreamworld soojung avoided the dangers of the streets. probably not the safest person to be around but surely entertaining to watch from afar.
she was on a personal delivery for one of her regulars that couldn't drive herself over to the shop and she'd been more than happy to take some time away from the flowers and humid shop, leaving it in the care of a trusted staff member, and walk about to enjoy the fresh air. she loved the outdoors, the feeling of being around nature always soothed her. so engrossed in her own thoughts she hadn't noticed the figure that seemed to follow her footsteps.
she was now looking on her phone, checking the latest shipments and bills for floralis to make sure everything was in check. soojung wasn't exactly a perfectionist but she liked order (besides she doesn't want to get swindled now). reading the final email sent by the suppliers from japan a swish of fur caught her eye. like magic, all her attention went straight to the small yorkie that was tied to a chair. his little yaps changing into high pitched hellos as soon as he caught her eye.
"well hello to you too little guy, who might you be?" soojung bent down to speak with the hyper creature, gently petting his tiny head. ' behind you! behind you! ' his voice rang in her ear before a hand tapped on her shoulder.
a woman stood over her, hair that shone in rosy pink locks. her expression looked distant as if she was somewhere else, rising slowly soojung waved a hand across the stranger's face.
"hi, did you need something miss?"

original plan was to come in and get out with no hassle. the whole ambiance of the place was not her style, music was too loud, people too touchy feelyー did she even have to mention how places like this had their own climate control. how it managed to feel like a sauna on a relatively cold night. the worst part of the whole place, however, had to be the stench of alcohol that clung to every breathing souls’ body in the vicinity.
alcohol, to say the bare minimum absolutely disgusted her. always had, always will, at such a young age she saw what kind of horrors the known devil’s liquid could do to a human. alter their mind into a state of false happiness as their body lay waste to the horrors of the world. alcohol was no known gift to this earth, it was a temptation given to help the weak ones fall faster and just as her luck would give it a drunken idiot called for her name.
it was around 6 pm the club was barely in full swing and the place already nauseated her just hearing that voice, the same voice of the person who’d excitedly name facts about every flower in her store. just thinking about how two different people that are similar in every sense could still be so strikingly different. she could’ve pretended not to hear and walk straight by. she could’ve ignored all sense of confrontation while avoiding the slur of his words as different type of liqour danced on his tongue. sadly she wasn’t the type that listened well.
“what do you want?”

with a single sentence, it’s as if the spell had been lifted. her sudden need for this woman’s approval flew right out the door along with the sickly sweet perfume mixed with something more deadly, human poison, alcohol. usually not the one to lose her temper she stretched her long fingers under the desk before plastering a smile on her face. it looked awkward, she looked awkward. just imagining her reflection staring straight back at her with the hidden clenched fists and the unlikely smile was a comedy act in itself. why even bother to put up a friendly facade with the woman that basically described her as 'the dog girl' in a not so positive way. it was a joke.
the second half of the sentence took a bit to process before she finally understood the full extent of this snobby rich woman's visit, of course she didn't want any damn flowersー people like her buy overpriced roses from high-end stores definitely not from a shop like hers. soojung was just taken back by how strongly she had started off upon arrival, seeing how fast her commanding voice became almost gentle like when mentioning the animalー a feeling she knew all too well. initial shock passing over, she finally gathered her thoughts and understood what she was asking for. the mysterious lady had come on behalf of the flyers she posted around the area like many, in hopes to take a cuddly creature home with them. just, the certain dog that was being asked for was not one she had the heart to give up.
"uh, can i see which animal you were planning on taking. also, a name would be great." yes she could perfectly see which specific, chicken loving dog this vile woman wanted but she just had to make sure. acting as if there was any other option for her anyways. pang pang was the only puppy out of her original stray lineup that hadn't been adopted off yet. they'd form a special bond, the sole reason for her powers to be reawakened and now this stranger was here to take him away from her.

soojung liked going outside. prefered the outdoors than being entrapped within the stuffy walls of her apartment. there was a new tenant who’d moved recently, a small child like human that resembled a timid puppy. her business had never been so popular. it was as if he was a god sent gift from the heavens; soft spoken and a few inches taller than she who was wrapped in his mess of bright orange fluffy hair, he took high interests in all the exotic plants and flowers soojung had managed to snatch for her store. she actually took quite a liking towards him, it was a strange thing. she noticed he never seemed to go out at night and all he liked to do was enjoy being in his apartment with a newly acquired potted plant from her shop.
his twin brother however (or who she assumed to be his brother). was instantly the reason why she remembered she disliked the male race so much. he was the complete opposite of the soft kid she had seen walking up and around the apartment complex. it was strange, to seem people who were so similar in appearance but be different entities altogether in personality. the evil twin (was the best she could come up with) worked as a bartender, she saw him at nights when she came to visit pangpang’s new owner to check in. with alcohol laced in his system she didn’t know one’s opinion on someone could get any lower.

soojung was in trouble. it wasn’t on a huge grand scale where people would fear the punishments planned for their misdeeds. it was more in a sense that, if she didn’t stop bringing home strays she would be kicked out.
"jung soojung bring anymore more four-legged creatures into your apartment and by the end of the week you won’t have one." was a threat she’s heard a couple of times before. always promising she would stop her animal hoarding but it wasn’t that easy. the small creatures that were left out in the cold with no home or food, what kind of thoughtless cruel monster would she be if she didn’t bring them all home with her?
it had gotten bad, though. like really bad. to the point where more than half her income went to caring for those little babies. so they had to be given up (asap as her landlord would constantly say when she passed by). no matter how much it pained her to take pictures and post the flyers all around the area, it had to be done. one by one her children all slowly left her loving home. it might’ve been the second hardest scene to watch over and over again but it never equated to the pain she felt when she had to ultimately give up her last stray that had been in her care.
pang pang held a strong hold onto her heart. found in a small box, the runt of the litter that soon became known as pang pang was the first furry friend that spoke to her after years. it was a weird thing, knowing your powers were so fickle and heavily emotion based. after the death of her best friend the usual small voices that invaded her thoughts went dead silent. animals would cross her path but they treated her as any other human, it was unsettling. the moment she set her eyes on pang pang however, the hyperactive squeaky voice hit her quicker than she would’ve ever expected. the closest thing to love at first sight happened at that exact moment and it had been years since the pup had been solely hers.
it was a warm friday evening, the day had been slow except for the occasional middle aged man buying last minute gifts for their angry wives. she was exhausted just one more hour before she could close up and nap with pang pang– or so she thought. the bells on her store front door chimed as a slender woman slinked her way in. soojung felt her heart rate increase on its own, as if it was a separate entity of its own. her slumped form straightened itself out, in her brain she had to impress this woman no matter what. a beautiful strange with the kind face and the cold eyes.
"welcome to floralis, how may i assist you?"

honesty was one of soojung’s best traits, well more or so blunt responses that usually got her in trouble ( but hey you asked for the truth ). however this was a situation she did not want to be truthful in, it hurt her pride too much to tell the man she had no money as of current to pay for food so she made every excuse in the book before someone handed a neat bill and paid for it no harm done. it would’ve been fine if it didn’t hurt soojung’s pride even more knowing someone had just paid it for her.
she turned to jongdae a declaration of refusal ready on the tip of her tongue when he grabbed the parfait and dragged her to a table. hardly listening to her compliments as the two sat down across each other. “i’m not eating it.” she huffed, crossing her arms and staring out at the window ignoring the look of amusement in his eyes. her composure however collapsed when the cream slowly melted and called her name. turning towards him she glared walking away before coming back with two spoons.“the least you can do is share it with me…” she turned away, ears red in embarrassment.
+ send me a ♥ to see my muse crying about something!
it hurt, hurt her so much. watching the bird she found crippled on the sidewalk barely able to stand by itself. the pain it went through shot through her heart harder than any broken limb that she had gotten. tears spilled from her eyes while she tried to feed the poor creature, nursing it slowly as her accomplice went to get something to help the stabilize its movement. she cooed at the bird, petting its wings gently whispering words of encouragement to it. mourning for its lose of flight, its freedom. as footsteps approached her soojung quickly wiped her tears and thanked jongdae for finding bandages, acting as if he didn’t see her cry her heart out just then.
+ send me a ♞ for my muse to care for yours while ill!
soojung smiled smugly at the bedridden man in agony. clicking her tongue as she laid a cool towel on his head, “i told you not to stay out too late, it was getting too chilly around these parts” she laid her hand across his cheek feeling the heat radiate from him and tilted her head to get a closer view.
“well mister, this is me saying i’m always right and you should’ve listened.” he coughed back in protest but she hushed him away, slowly spoon feeding him porridge to appease his appetite. she chuckled at his vulnerability, finding it fascinating how sickness can change someone so much. but she wasn’t here to examine him like some test subject, she sat next to his bed to care for the ill man. staying by his side till he fell asleep peacefully. however too tired to move herself she laid her head on the bed and dozed off, hoping he’d feel better when he woke up.

And then he closes the book, leaving it in the corner where he found it. It’s not likely that he’ll see it again, but who knows if his words may offer someone else some kind of answer.
soojung sighed and rested her head on her palm, the day was awfully cool and because whatever sins she was atoned in this life their heater happened to work on that day. the heat was on full blast, blanketing the small shop in a warm wave of air. the cozy atmosphere of floralis made her want to snuggle up next to the carnations and fall into eternal slumber. willing to sleep on her bed of flowers that they desperately tried to keep alive all winter– it was just so damn warm. her business was slow during winter only but a small amount of regulars coming in for a new floral arrangement or just coming into chat with soojung, she did treat everyone as though they were her friends after all.
doing the usual inventory check, she picked up her catalog and listed off all the flowers that managed to withstand this negative zero esq winter. sighing heavily once again when her pen rolled off the last page. “i need a new notebook..” remembering that she had bought one recently she slipped into the back office to search for it. “i swear i had left it here.” moving papers and opening drawings she couldn’t find it. she had sighed for the third time that hour when her stomach growled loudly, a noise that sounded 10x louder in the empty shop. she laid a hand across her belly as it growled once again.
“that could’ve been the roar of a mighty lion once…” she whispered to herself, grabbing a coat she yelled back to her helper than she will be out for lunch, maybe even grab a new notebook on the way. she went off promising to bring something back for everyone.
she enjoyed almost everything about the restaurant. the quiet area with great comfort food made it a wonderful spot for her to hide away in especially when issues with the shop arose. times were tough for her, it’s not that everyone wanted flowers now that those fake plastic imitations came out. all but ruining her business and making life oh so very hard. but her troubles were all but a foreign tale as her order arrived, steam wafting from the plate making her mouth water and stomach yearn for a taste when it caught her eye.
her notebook! it was just lying on an empty table, thinking back it would make sense for her to misplace it, so before indulging in her food, she grabbed it and by some odd need she opened it and looked inside. it was missing for a couple of days at most so she was curious what stories were foretold in its travels. it still pissed her off when she saw writing neatly across the lines of the first page. her hand stopping just mer seconds before ripping it out– the words caught her off guard. and call her crazy but she just reached into her bag, instead of taking it back to floralis, pretending this never happened, ignoring the weird stranger who wrote in it in the first place ( but now it was two weird strangers communicating with it ). she took out her pen and wrote back to the first writer.
well personally i believe you shouldn’t just go off and about writing in someone else’s notebook, but your question does interest me so i’ll let it go
and all that fate nonsense people spout out and about is completely bogus. something as powerful as fate or any other concept of another unworldly being controlling how we as people live seems a bit…unfair? like saying it was fated that the sweet young boy grew to be an evil warlord or that the grandmother wouldn’t live to see her grandchildren. no fate is a word too strong used by whimsical people who can’t get the concept of everything happens for a reason in their head. and wouldn’t you find it funny stranger? that fate is only used when people believe something marvelous is about to happen because they can also use it to excuse any wrong doings that come after.
every choice and action will come with an equal reaction. just like me leaving this notebook here wondering if you are truly ‘fated’ to come back.
now tell me? what do you believe to be true fate?
closing the notebook and putting it back as it was, she went back to her meal, just hoping this wasn’t as crazy as it looked.
