I am in desperate need of help
Hello everyone,
On March 18th, 2026 I was injured at work. Specifically, and object from above fell from a cabinet and hit my dominant (right) arm/wrist. For a few weeks, I worked with difficulty while initiating the process of workers comp. It wasn't until after my primary car provider decided on April 1st (her 2nd follow up with me) that she wrote me a note for work that I need to see an orthopedic specialist and that I need to refrain from typing until I see one. My bosses got the note and was told by HR that I cannot come to work until I get a note from an approved physician from a list I was given on April 2nd. HR also gave me incorrect information about my workers comp adjuster, so for the next couple of weeks I was trying to get into contact with the wrong person. The person didn't tell me she wasn't my adjuster until April 16th, two days after they were billed for my approved workers comp visit. That appointment was very bizarre, said he didn't do workers comp but agreed that I needed to see an Orthopedic specialist (he sent another referral) but despite me having issues with my hand (barely able to text or hold my phone without being in intense pain), he wrote that I could head back to work the next week. My bosses were forced to put me on the schedule but put me in incredibly reduced hours, to ensure I was around other coworkers and so that I wouldn't over work my wrist. I wasn't contacted by my actual workers comp adjuster until April 27th, to start the actual process of workers comp. We did an interview and said that it will take awhile for them to approve or deny a visit to the ortho. She sent me alot of paperwork that has to be sent in by May 18th, mostly logging my earned income from 4/14 - 5/18, in order for me to get compensated for my missing wages. I will not be compensated until some time after 5/18, and I essentially have no money in my bank account right now. I haven't been able to purchase any groceries for myself or family, or pay my bills. I find it extremely predatory that they refuse to compensate me for my missing wages starting on April 1st, but they said since it wasn't an approved physician that they can't... despite HR not giving me that information until after my primary care provider stated I cannot type for long bouts of time.
I have a paycheck coming on May 8th, that just barely covers my utility bill. I get paid biweekly and know that I will have extreme difficulty with providing food and paying my phone and internet bill later this month. I already have been doing forbearance with my student loan, which has helped. I need help to make sure that we get by this month. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it.
