that made me remember my headcanon (which I probably have a post about from the time if I dug back far enough) that the suicide rate among students in the asuran colleges is horrifyingly high but they all get officially recorded as "lab accidents"

What do people like about the Inquest? I never really...got it?
I think it really depends on who you ask.
For me, the Inquest is fascinating because they're effectively a terrorist organization legitimized by the Arcane Council, but they didn't start that way. Word of God has indicated that they (may have) originated after the exodus from Quora Sum and the other lost underground cities, largely as a desire to protect the asuran people, as well as their culture and knowledge, from being lost at such a devastating scale as they experienced in that time.
And at some point, they just... lost their way.
The Inquest preys on people in the same way a lot of cults might. You'll see those (Plunka from the Transatmospheric Converter story step "Salt in the Wound" is a great example) that fell behind in asuran society promised the moon by those like Kudu, after which they're taken advantage of and tossed aside as soon as they overstep their usefulness.
And this in particular is a great way to dig into characters and their motivations! I have a few ex-Inquest characters (such as Vezz and Rhenn) who come at it from very different angles. They weren't bad people, but circumstances led them to where they were and how they departed in the end.
I also have some really dastardly evil characters who are strictly Inquest because they LIKE having no boundaries and the ability to use and abuse subordinates, other people, and other races (like Miyya, head of the Inquest Ethics Committee, or Prikk, my boy Rhenn's father/creator). These guys are just strictly nasty, mean people who revel in having no guardrails for ethical research.
And compared to the other "bad guy" orgs within the other playable races, they're distinctly unique BECAUSE there's actively a member of the Inquest on the Arcane Council and canon confirmation that the council lets the Inquest handle projects they don't want to bother with. They're basically considered a legitimate branch of asuran government to the point that they have a lab and recruitment area IN Rata Sum proper, even when the majority of asuran culture loathes them (a huge chunk of events and renown hearts in Metrica are about messing with the Inquest's operations!).
And yeah, folks like the Svanir have operations in their home city, but they're also derided and treated poorly by the people there. You're even warned before you enter those caves.
But bandits, NMC, Flame Legion? They're not legitimate in the eyes of their cultures as a whole.
In the end, it's largely what each person wants to explore. The nature of escaping a bad situation and forgiving yourself for your mistakes? Just being an absolute garbage rat who likes putting shock collars on people for fun? It's all an open book!
And when you're dealing with a group that can smugly respond "Well my boss works with Councilor Yahk so why don't you take it up with him" it really just leaves a lot of room for playing around.

Hey you don't have to publish this and I'm hoping honestly you don't remember what it's about at all, but I just want to say that ages ago we got into an altercation on tumblr, and I went absolutely sicko mode on you over something completely inconsequential, and now years later I keep thinking about it and I am SO sorry. It was completely hypocritical too because the things I was mean to you about are similar to things I do/am into now. It wasn't right of me and I feel ashamed of it. I'm sorry.
I have no memory whatsoever of anything resembling that, but... look, when I look back at the person I was when I was active on this blog, I see someone who was deeply unhappy in a lot of ways and not dealing with any of them very well. I'm (thankfully) not that person anymore. It sounds like you're not who you were then anymore, either.
Thank you for your apology. You're forgiven. I hope that helps you be gentler with yourself now.
I haven't played in literally a year and disengaged from the story long before that, so of course NOW they do more Inquest content
you won't drag me back (unless Kuda is there, you fucking cowards)
I offer you
[ID: Guild Wars fanart of a chubby little brown Charr cub wearing a cloth diaper. In one sketch, it’s sitting on the ground and squinting at the viewer. In the other, it’s being held up by the paws of an adult Charr while an arrow points to its belly and labels it as “full of soup”. End ID.]
please. stop praying for my grandpa!!!! you are making him too strong
Had a dream that in the next episode of Janthy wilds, Isgarren had given himself massive tits and refused to wear a shirt. Like they where fully models and textured and everything and we just had to act like everything was normal
After some diligent friend-crowd-thinking, we've managed to come up with this nightmare

Not enough energy to make new ones this year, but I hope these give people some laughs again. Happy Valentine’s Day to anyone celebrating!

I have embarked on an utterly insane quest to diagram all the WvW objectives with TacO markers—the borders of every destructible wall, the exact point of exit for every portal, the variety of every resource node... and the location of every piece of tower/keep upgrade siege.
This would be no problem, if I was on a server (or linked with one) that actually captured objectives and held them for more than 20 minutes. Long story short, I spent like six hours this weekend personally escorting yaks to Durios because there was no other way I'd ever see its mortar.

I had this dream that was…basically a fanfic? It was about how Zojja doesn’t remember anything about Snaff and that’s sad, and also the existence of Kryptis is starting to become known to the world, and the Inquest decides to experiment on Kryptis rifts, and Isgarren sends the PC and Zojja to deal with that. So who should we meet but a not-dead Kudu, who basically laughs off the idea of him dying so easily in CoE, and the idea is that hate can produce more potent emotions than love (quoting verbatim from the dream here, don’t @ me), so Zojja’s like “who is this guy and why do I fucking hate him”, and then she starts to remember stuff about Kudu, and THEN she starts to remember stuff about Snaff. (Like, half the reason I’m not actually writing this as a fanfic is because I can’t hope to capture the emotions around that.) …And meanwhile I’m messaging @kuduslut saying “you’ll never guess who I just fought in the latest story update” because apparently this was actually part of the game. Yeah.
on the one hand YES that would be amazing pleeeeeeease the emotions
on the other hand, I haven’t even finished the first SotO story so I’d be mad I have to grind now
zoned in to the BL map, saw that Bay is contested and decided to scope it out
