I love that there is barely context for who WWX is when he is introduced. You assume that it is a decent plan he has come up with to keep from being discovered, but in hindsight he just acts like himself while leaning into the high energy and having less brain to mouth filter about LWJ.

The end feels somewhat like a monkey’s-paw: (technically wish is fulfilled, but not in the way you imagined. There’s a catch)

CWN: *glances at corpse in tears

Plot: Oh, it’s dead, you say? Yeah. You didn’t, you know, specify so… I guess you have to take care of the body now. Bye (cheerfully)

CWN first deludes himself and pretends MR is still alive. Desperately clinging to what little time of joy he had gotten—he clings to hopes and wishes of a future that could never be. He doesn’t want to accept that the other is really gone, all the while blaming himself for the fate MR suffered.

CWN is barely holding up—still mourning MR—when he confronts HBN and is subsequently captured by TXJ.

It hurts so much to see this warped mirror of the man who died in his arms and wished would still be there with him. That mirage is starkly different in some ways and strikingly similar in others. He still cares for TXJ in his own right—even feels guilty, blaming himself for TXJ becoming like this.

It is bittersweet. In a way it is that man he misses, brought back to CWN, yet at the same time it is not.

He, technically, is given what he longed for most—MR: alive and returned to him—but in a twisted distortion of the wish. He does get MR; but it is TXJ not Mo Zongshi.

All the horrible things happening aside, can we talk about the fact how Ace-spec Jiang Xi sounds in the chapter where Mdm Wang tells him the truth of what happened 20 years ago??!

He’s so confused that the sect leader is asking him if he has difficulty being detached. And he goes—no? Do people struggle w/ this??—He just seems so ace coded to me.

Jiang Xi: No. I do, in fact, not care

I’m reading Erha vol 9 at the moment and damn is Xue Meng having a bad day.

But something I realised is that it seems somewhat pointed that the main hall in Sisheng Peak is called Loyalty Hall.

Many significant clashes take place there. It established as a sort of crossroad-location for taking sides and having loyalties tested and sometimes shattered. We’ve already seen many “trials” matted in slander, betrayal and selfish righteousness throughout the series. It seems to pointed that the civilians—whom Sisheng peak have risked their life to protect—would stab them in the back like they did and completely abandoned their loyalty established through years of kindness and aid.

And something just breaks in Xue Meng, so he goes batshit. And honestly, considering everything, I think that is valid.

My heart hurts.

ZZS wanted to disguise himself so no one would know it was him. Like sure, seems sensible enough considering everything that’s happened. But he really went for something ridiculous that would still make him so easily identifable.

Other people in the story: shapeshift

ZZS: beard, tanning lotion and fake scar. A yes no one will know it is me!

In universe it made sense ig, but I just can’t take this seriously

And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.

I know we all like to Clown on SQQ for being so incredibly blind to LBG changes as the story progresses, and how he misinterprets a lot of the things Binghe does and is an overall oblivious mess stuck in heteronormative stereotypes.

But! But, he has something going for him. In the way, that from his perspective, none of these changes make any sense to him whatsoever. The impact he has on the original plot of PIDW is just so uncanny to him. It drifts so far from it and has a great impact on everyone’s character development and trajectory throughout the story. He is blindsided by what he believes to know about the world and the people in it.

Let me illustrate!

Picture this: You transmigrate into MDZS. And find you are placed into the role of Wen Chao of all people. You freak out because you know what will happen to him, and this set out to change the character in a way that will not result in his canonical end. Along the way you actually become close to WWX in a way that seems kind of weird to you (but don’t think about further, bc of course you don’t). WWX ends up not ending WC but falling in love with WC instead of LWJ. Something, something, the shock and horror!

You see, the story becomes so different and a distortion of what you know. Whatever happens in the changed plot will always immediately be compared to the original in your head. SY simply cannot believe that the story could change so much only bc of him. He keeps making the same mistake of thinking the story is still on the same path as he knew it.

Don’t get me wrong, despite that SQQ is still very blind to a lot of other things, but this at least is a part that is actually very understandable behavior on his part. He was so obsessed with this story and knows practically everything about it. SQQ is a walking encyclopedia of you will. And he cannot for the life of him see how much he changed this story he is so familiar with until a lot later.

So yeah, even tho it is really funny to meme on it, I think we could cut him some slack for his obliviousness in that situation.
