Their Outing

The shower was relentless, droplets rushing down and drenching them both to the bone. Simply following Chrono’s guidance as he ran at his heels–protecting the gifts as best as he could all the while–Tasuku could barely see in front of him through the droplets barraging his vision. Finally ducking underneath a dry shelter, with room enough for two at least, Tasuku could already feel himself dripping, facing the elder as a dry handkerchief dabbed away at his face. Ah, that was nice..

“Mmnm.. thank you.” Blinking up at Chrono as he felt his bangs being parted away from his eyes, he smiled gratefully, standing up just a little bit straighter now.  “You’re soaked too, not to mention you’ll get sick staying like this..” Hand reaching over to touch the elder’s arm, it now felt frigid underneath his finger tips, eyes trailing up as he held his tongue. Suddenly, he was just so… taken aback at how breathtaking Chrono was like this. It was nerve-wracking… His throat was swelling up at the sight of the other’s hair sticking to the back of his slender neck… and of course.. his clothing was hugging his frame in such a way that— “Sh… should we wait for a bus to come then..?” My heart’s pounding…. I don’t know where to look….

Of course, his eyes averted just as so to avoid that problem..

“’s fine. I’ve been through wor--ahh...aaaah...”

“Achoo!”

Groaning, he sniffled a little and sighed, refusing to look Tasuku in the eye after that display. “That was just a sneeze. I’m not gonna get sick.”

Despite the rain, though, Tasuku’s little hand was so warm against his frigid skin... Perhaps it was because Chrono had just been holding it. Either way, it was a comforting touch...

“Yeah... Seems best. This bus’ll arrive at the apartment quicker than your place, so you can stay the night again if you want. It’d be best if you changed as soon as possible anyway. Can’t have you getting sick for work...”

But when he dared sneak a glance back, he noticed Tasuku shifting on his feet, a faint redness on his cheeks.

“What’s wrong? You cold?”

A collection of small things as a whole… Tasuku hadn’t even thought of that! “That’s a great idea!” With a new motivation in sight, Tasuku scanned the selection with even more vigor than before, not careful enough to watch himself in Chrono’s goofy presence, however.

“GHHFFHT–!” Oh, no, that had been so loud! Now everyone around them was staring! Not to mention, Tasuku’s nose had almost leaked in the process of snorting so hard– “Uwaaughh..! Senpaiii!! Hahaha! That was mean!! Hey!!”

Huffing and playfully hitting his arm, Tasuku wasn’t about to get mad or anything, simply too weak towards that lighthearted charm as he fell into another bout of laughter instead. If he could really engrave certain parts of his life into his heart, he was praying that this would definitely be one of them. —- At the end of a few hours, shopping all done and feet weary from walking all afternoon, the two were waiting at a red light, one bag occupying Tasuku’s hand (adorning Aichi’s newly purchased gifts) as the other held fast to Chrono’s. Fingers smugly intertwined, that head of sky blue curls found itself lazily leaning into the elder’s shoulder, giving a drawn out exhale.  

“Phew… I’m a little tired…” After all of that laughing and moving about, Tasuku had every right to claim his status… even if apart of him didn’t want their date to end so suddenly. Although, now that he had the time to stop and look up, he finally noticed the sudden change in weather, grey skies rolling in… “Uh, oh… is it gonna rain..? It was so sunny before. ‘guess we should start heading back..”

Tasuku’s laughter was a sound that Chrono adored above all else, but the sheer amount of effort he had put into restraining himself was so hilarious that Chrono couldn’t help but burst into a spontaneous fit of laughter as well.

“Snrrk...!”

“Hahahaha! What the heck was that, Tasuku?! You sounded like a pig!”

Laughing too hard to really register the light scolding hits to his arm, the two boys continued their rambunctious play until one of the staff eventually approached them and requested that they quiet down...

It had been a productive day, at least, a shopping bag full of goodies held safely and tight in Tasuku’s hand. But it couldn’t be that easy--Chrono had felt it too, the first sploshes of rain on his face.

“Huh?!”

And suddenly, it was a downpour.

“The hell?! Rain...?”

He didn’t even think next, simply grabbing Tasuku’s hand and dragging him across the street as soon as the light turned. About a block of running in, and they finally stumbled upon a bus shelter, Chrono pulling Tasuku underneath.

“Sheesh... That came outta nowhere. Ah, you’re all wet...”

Pulling a handkerchief out of his pocket, he began dabbing at Tasuku’s damp face.

Not caring for the stares their way, Tasuku was absolutely bathed in bliss, being with his special person, he couldn’t have planned a more perfect day out. However the elder had a good point–Aichi was ever so difficult at times like these (and when Tasuku needed his mutual cooperation the most!), and it was almost impossible to discern what kind of gift to even get him.

“It’d be easier if Aichi-san could just tell us what he wanted, but I bet he’d say something like ‘you’re all I need’… Honestly. Doesn’t help at all…” 

“Ffhht.. Pffhh… Hahaha! Was that… was that Aichi-san?! Hahaha! P-please… do it again! Do it again, Senpai! Haha!”

Laughing the loudest he had ever in a long, long time, Tasuku couldn’t even keep himself well composed, curling into himself as he felt tears squeezing from his eyes. Breathless from the fits of giggles, it took a few moments for him to calm down again, sparing a hand to wipe away the residue. Oh, man..! That felt rather refreshing, albeit his insides were so sore! He was glad he had changed the subject to something much more manageable.  “Eeh… September 9th, huh. Nine, nine… Whoa, wait! Y’know, your birthday is the flipside of Aichi-san’s! His is June 6th… Six, six…” And given the silly punundrum, 6/6 was indeed a vertical flipping of 9/9. Drawing out the figures with his finger in midair, Tasuku turned to look up at Chrono, a bright grin adoring his lips all the while. “That’s really cool, don’t you think?” It was all so silly… just mindless chitchat to some, but for someone like Tasuku, who hadn’t had anyone to experience something like this before.. it was uplifting. It was hard to ignore the admiration and care in his eyes every time he looked to Chrono for assurance or answers.

“–Oh! Whoa, Senpai, look at this! Wouldn’t Aichi-san really like this?”

“Eh...? Huh... You’re right... I never noticed. That’s a pretty cool coincidence. Y’think it’s fate? Heh.”

It was a funny coincidence, yet... It made him feel strangely airy. More light and happy. Like he had something else that would connect him to Aichi. An extra bond... Even if it was something silly like numbers. He couldn’t ignore the elation in Tasuku’s eyes either... Perhaps it was infectious. 

“Whoooa! He’ll definitely like this. Let’s keep it for now while we look around some more, okay? If we get him a whole bunch of small little trinkets, it’ll feel like a big gift, wouldn’t it?”

He knew that it wouldn’t matter, that Aichi would appreciate a gift no matter how big or small, but it would sit easier on his mind to give him more than less. Aichi had done so much for not only him, but Tasuku as well, and it just didn’t feel right to give him anything less in return.

And since Tasuku had liked it so much, perhaps it was time for a little ad libbing...

“I bet Aichi-san’s gonna be like “uwawa, this is so pretty! Thank you so much! I’ll treasure it forever!” or somethin’.”

Once again, his voice reached pitches that it never should’ve ventured, making for a very amusing and interesting sound indeed.

“Eheheh… Understood. I’ll stay close.”

Chrono didn’t have to say anything more at that; looking up and noticing that subtle blush–who would have thought that Chrono could be that… charming as well?–Tasuku opted into teasing him further with another affectionate nuzzle. Feeling the elder’s skin like that… it felt so pleasant.

But regardless of the distractions among them and their feelings, it was a lot of fun just being able to walk downtown so freely, gazing into the shop windows and looking for anything that caught their eye. Of course, Tasuku needed to stay focused given whom the gift was for, but on such an occasion where he could get away with acting his age and fooling around well… He’d take it. All smiles, and at the kind reminder, Tasuku piped up again, suddenly grateful that the inquiry crossed his mind. 

“You know… I’ve never even asked for your birthday yet, Chrono-Senpai. When is it…?”

Feeling that soft cheek nuzzle against his skin even further, Chrono felt absolutely steamed. He was certain that he’d begin emitting smoke from his ears if this continued on. Still, it was nice to take a relaxing walk through the bustling streets, just window shopping for anything nice...

They probably looked like a young loving couple, didn’t they... Especially with Tasuku tethered to him like this.

“It’d be easier if Aichi-san could just tell us what he wanted, but I bet he’d say something like ‘you’re all I need’... Honestly. Doesn’t help at all...”

Attempting to imitate the older boy’s voice, his impression fell flat on his face. There was no way Chrono could pull off an Aichi act in any way...

“Huh?”

‘My birthday? It’s September 9. Why?”

Their Outing

“Aaaahh.. It’s finally getting warmer out! This is so nice…”

Stretching his arms high above his head and taking a deep breath of the fresh spring air, Tasuku looked up to the soaring, fluffy white clouds above, cerise hues shining with mirth. Summer was just about a month’s time away now, bringing a steady close to his first school year together with Chrono. There were still finals that they’d need to cram in soon enough, but for now, he just wanted to indulge himself within his lover’s presence. “I’m glad I got the day off; I’ve really been looking forward to getting to go out with you again.” Sheepishly reaching over and wrapping his arms around the redhead’s in a snug hold, his cheek bumped against the smooth skin of Chrono’s exposed arm, cheeks pinkening a little at the elder’s bold choice of clothing. Not that he’d really complain–Chrono was quite the looker, in fact–but Tasuku was always thinking about the repercussions, of course. “Chrono-Senpai, you’re really getting into the spirit of the weather, huh? You won’t be too chilly like this?” He’d be happy to comply and keep him warm with this simple hug if so be it.

“Yeah. ...You’re in a pretty good mood, huh.”

Well, he couldn’t blame the kid. Tasuku had been so busy lately the past few weeks that they could only really spend time together on their walks home, or during their quiet evenings together--and even then, it wasn’t much, because Tasuku would pass out only to start it all over again. In that sense, Chrono was also happy. 

He tried, he tried so hard not to blush when he felt Tasuku’s little warm cheek against his bare arm, but it was impossible. It just wasn’t possible, because Tasuku was so small and his cheek was so plush and soft and it was pressed against his arm and--

“The forecast said it was gonna be really hot today, so... I mean, it’d suck to overheat on the one day we have together.”

“Besides... You’re here... You’re pretty warm. Uh...”

...Right. This wasn’t helping his burning cheeks at all. Actually, he was quite flustered that Tasuku was so taken by his choice of clothing... 

Maybe I’ll wear it more often. Gah...! What am I thinking?!

“Anyway... You said you wanted to look for a gift for Aichi-san, right? Let’s do that first.”

Holding Hands

It is unseasonally chilly, even for the springtime, leaving Chrono scrambling to dig up his winter wear before heading out to see Tasuku home. Disgruntled, he tugs at the scarf that had haphazardly been thrown on, watching his breath rise as steam while waiting to cross at the intersection.

Come to think of it… Tasuku never dresses properly for this kind of weather.

And true enough, when he finally happens upon headquarters, Tasuku is rubbing his arms, his cheeks tinted a faint pink. He looks ecstatic when Chrono comes into view.

“Chrono-senpai!”

And of course, he’s wearing exactly what he had been when he left the apartment. That is, his police uniform, and nothing else. No scarf, no gloves, no coat, nothing.

Honestly…

“Hey.” Chrono saunters over, and before Tasuku could squeeze a word in edgewise, he throws his own scarf over Tasuku’s head. “Put this on. ‘s really cold right now.”

Tasuku has to wrestle with the garment for a moment before his head emerges again. “Then you should be the one wearing it, right? It’ll be my fault if you get sick.”

Chrono raises an eyebrow, looking Tasuku up and down. He looks like he’s dressed for spring, not this freak cold snap, and he’s worried about Chrono? That’s so typical of him.

“I ain’t gonna get sick. But you are, if you don’t wear that, and I’m not gonna take care of you when you do.” It’s a lie; he will, and he always would. “So c’mon. You look like you’re gonna freeze if we stay out here any longer.”

Dejectedly, Tasuku can only nod. “Yes, sir...”

They walk about a block before Chrono notices the younger boy blowing into his hands and rubbing them. Rolling his eyes, Chrono realizes that he doesn’t have any gloves to lend Tasuku either. 

He eyes Tasuku, waiting for the arm to drop down to his side before he reaches out and takes that tinier hand with his own. Tasuku looks at him inquisitively, and Chrono can’t bring himself to meet his eyes.

“It’s warmer this way,” he mumbles into his collar, feeling heat rise to his cheeks. Tasuku smiles warmly beside him, holding on a little tighter. 

“Thank you, Chrono-senpai.”

Ice Cream

“I know you’re looking at it.”

Blinking, Tasuku quickly looks away from Chrono’s scrumptious-looking dessert, resting his cheek against his palm. “I am not.”

"If you want a taste, you can just ask, y’know.”

Tasuku looks positively affronted by the suggestion. “Who ever said I wanted one?”

Chrono rolls his eyes. Honestly...for all of his maturity, Tasuku sure is as stubborn as the child he so wishes not to be. “You don’t have to be embarrassed because you finished yours already.”

“I’m not! Will you stop putting words into my mouth?”

“Alright, alright,” Chrono concedes defeat with a nonchalant nod, before scooping up a spoonful of his sundae and holding it across the table for Tasuku to eat. “Here.”

“I said I didn’t want it.”

“Stop kidding yourself already.”

“I don’t want it.”

“Look, it’s gonna melt. Just take it already.”

Tasuku seems to deliberate on it for a little longer, before leaning forward and eating it right off of Chrono’s spoon. He munches quietly on it, his head bowed slightly before speaking up meekly.

“...It’s really good.”

“Told ya so.”

“It’s not tha—Wwaaaugh..!” Getting physically handled so easily, Tasuku felt mildly offended—Chrono was… treating him like such a child..! Not taking him seriously and scolding him when the last thing he wanted right now was to feel like a burden! (But unbeknownst to him, his rebellious attitude and stubborn sense of justice is what was really getting him into trouble.) Hitting the flatter mattress with a bounce, Tasuku no sooner scrambled to try and fight past the redhead, only to be stopped again. “You—Chrono-Senpai!! I’m fine… I’ve already waited enough, can’t you see..?!” It was always tougher when desperation hit his tone—making his throat clench up as he fought to remain in control of his emotions.

“I’ve got to fix things before there’s no turning back for them!! So please—!”

Now, Chrono had fought to maintain his composure, but...even he had his limits. 

He had just woken up from near death, and he was already insisting on throwing himself headfirst into danger. Why was Tasuku being so...?!

“Will you listen to yourself for one second and think about how stupid you sound?!” 

He grasped the younger’s shoulders.

“Who are you kidding?! Who are you going to save in this state?! What is this really for? The world? Or just yourself?!”

Chrono liked to think he had a good grip on himself, but there were things that could easily push him beyond the brink; least of all seeing his partner so eager to throw his life away, right after he had nearly lost him.

“How about your family? Do you know how upset Aichi-san was when he learned about what happened to you? How do you think he’d feel if you went off and died?!”

He was only made aware of how much his voice had risen when he realized just how spent he was at the end of his tirade. Hanging his head, though keeping his hands on the younger boy’s shoulders, he tried, tried so hard, to convey the anxiety he felt into his grip. The fear of losing someone close to him again.

“...You idiot... He almost lost you... I almost lost you... Why can’t you see that...?!”

Tasuku’s first instinct was to make the leap before he could be stopped, but Chrono knew him far too well by now to just allow him to act as he pleased. Especially if recklessly, the elder was just too experienced with Tasuku’s shenanigans by now to let him get away with it. 

“—!!” Squirming around for just a moment, Tasuku already saw his efforts as futile, large, defiant eyes looking back as brows furrowed. Jack, you—

“All right, now, before you go on blaming ol’ Jackknife Dragon… know that I actually didn’t have anything to do with his coming here. Chrono knows you like the back of his hand by now, after all…”

Ugh…“Chrono-Senpai… stop, you don’t understand, I—”

“Don’t understand what? That you’ll get yourself killed?”

Nope. Chrono wasn’t having any of it today. Honestly, Tasuku was such a handful sometimes...

“You wanna go save the world. I get it. But you’re really going to do it in a hospital gown? Yeah, right. It’d look really uncool.”

Not at all like the colourful heroes of Team Caesar... But that was beside the point. 

“Alright, up we go,” Chrono huffed, scooping Tasuku up into his arms and heading right back towards the bed before plopping him onto it. “You ain’t gonna move from this spot until you get better. You get it?”

Though it could have been seen as immoral, Tasuku simply couldn’t lay waiting in bed whilst the mistakes he left wandering the streets were still at large. And though Jackknife Dragon was fighting to deter his mind from committing the act, Tasuku was still opening up the hospital window, climbing onto the window sill as aerial runes shone brightly at his heels. 

“This is suicide, Tasuku! You’re still not at 100%… Reconsider!”

I’ve still got to… fix things while I can, Jack. The sooner the better, even. With Void and the me of this realm threatening to destroy this world with everyone I love in it, I can’t let everything I’ve done just..!

In retrospect, it was a good thing that Chrono had decided to come as early as he did. Walking into the hospital room, panic arose as soon as he saw Tasuku at the window before he realized that he shouldn’t have been surprised at all. This was exactly the kind of thing that Tasuku would do.

“Where do you think you’re goin’?”

Before Tasuku could react, Chrono reached out and snagged the back of Tasuku’s collar, pulling him away from the window--but gently, lest he agitated his recovering wound.

Holding him by the scruff of the neck like a puppy, Chrono stared at him.

“You... We can’t leave you alone for a second, huh?”

"—Gotcha!!"

The moment Chrono was most vulnerable, Tasuku had reached up and squeezed his most tender spots, openly chuckling at the loudest yelp he had ever heard. And making sure there was no time for the elder to  even react, Tasuku had jumped right onto shifting their weight and straddled over the elder’s waist, pinning him down ultimately with a huff.

"Aha! Now you’re mine!"

"GYAH--!"

He had been deceived...! Caught completely off guard, Chrono could only yelp in response to Tasuku's underhanded assault, falling flat on his back.

"T-Tasuku..."

It took him a while to register what had just went down--it all had happened so quickly!

"Th...that was so dirty! That was really dirty! Tasukuuuu!"

In a last ditch attempt to retaliate, he reached up to squish Tasuku's soft, soft cheeks together...

"—?! Senp—?!" And just when he thought he’d have the upper-hand, Chrono’s sheer force in retaliation sent him crashing to the floor, pinned underneath the elder as he knocked his head some. But surely he’d teach the elder a thing or two about trying to best him: quickly improvisin as he feigned a knockout, Tasuku lay very, very still, eyes convincingly shut as his head tilt slightly off to the side, holding his breath. That oughta teach Chrono something..! "—-………………."

The struggling had stopped. In fact, everything seemed to have stopped, Tasuku not moving at all as soon as his back hit the floor.

"...Huh?"

"T...Tasuku?! Hey...!"

Did I knock him out...?! But I wasn't using all of my strength that time...! What...?

He took the boy's shoulders, shaking him gently. 

"H-hey... Hey, Tasuku, wake up!"

With what almost sounded like a squeak leaving Tasuku’s throat the moment he was seized, he stiffened in surprise, only to begin wriggling his body in an effort to escape. 

"Noo fairrr!" Squirming against Chrono’s powerful bear hug, Tasuku was basically wearing himself thin, cheeks flushed as he desperately tried to reach around and poke and prod Chrono’s tender sides.  "I won’t let you win!"

He thought he had Tasuku where he wanted him, but Tasuku launched a counterattack, prodding and tickling his sensitive sides. 

"O-oi...! C-cut it out--hahahaha...! Why you...!"

Squirming in response, he tackled Tasuku to the floor, refusing to give the smaller boy the upper hand and aiming to pin his arms to his sides or onto the floor. 

"Take this...!"

"E-Ehh..? EH!"

Oh no… now Chrono was lumping Tasuku onto the same level as him..?! As much as he had enjoyed himself and looked utterly enthralled (apart of Tasuku was noting how charming it was deep down but…), Chrono was simply going too far now. And Tasuku had no other choice… He had to be stopped.

"N-no! NO! Oughhhh—!” Pulling at the nearest cheek to him, Tasuku tried to wrestle Chrono onto the ground—anything to get him to cease and desist with these ridiculous references!

"Waugh--hey...!"

Though it was in neither of their personalities to engage in such horseplay, they couldn't resist a few bouts of mischief every now and again. Tasuku and Chrono were only young middle schoolers after all.

"Why you...!" 

Retaliating in kind as Tasuku struggled to push him down, Chrono threw his arms around the boy and pulled Tasuku against him, effectively holding him in place.

"Ha...! You can't get away now!"

"…?!"

No way. No. Way. This just couldn’t be. There had to have been a misunderstanding somewhere—Chrono… he… he…?!

He LIKED it?! Tasuku had to nearly excuse himself from the other’s side and take a moment to collect and sort through this sudden rush of invasive thoughts wrecking his rationale. —But it was obvious, he needn’t even over think it—Tasuku’s boyfriend was just literally a huge nerd, though the exact term was escaping him at the moment. "I…? Uh…. I…???"

Chrono, unfortunately, took Tasuku's stuttering a completely different way.

"I know, right? There were so many good scenes that it's hard to choose your favourite! But I bet you liked the Koutei parts... When he was all like 'Combine!' and 'Docking formation!' Didn't you do something like that once? With your Future Force or whatever."

He was completely oblivious to Tasuku's chagrin, continuing to gush over the movie without a care for the world.

"Sooooo cool, that movie was so cool...!"
