Everything leading to this is cinema. Also the irony of the situation is so funny kyouji who's telling him to stop that he can't give a yakuza money, he's trying to stop him physically and than tries to reason right and as if it wasn't ironic enough the bag explodes. The money flies everywhere down the river, the hard earned money, the money satomi put so much emotions into. What does satomi do? He laughs, he laughs until his tears flow and he looks relived for the first time in a while. Yes that money was symbolic for a lot of different emotions and they're gone now and maybe those emotions flew away with them. It's so crazy because while all of this is happening kyouji is going through many different expressions, he even tries to jump into a cold river at night without even hesitating, he understand that this is a manifestation of satomis feelings theyre important. The moment ends up with him looking fondly at satomi while satomi tells him they should go to a family restaurant to get dessert. I'm sure he was not planning to see kyouji for a while after this, he really was trying to end those old feelings inside of them so they could start their relationship new. On equal grounds.

famires's finale feels so bittersweet. i feel like there's still a lot of things that we have yet to see.

but more than that, there is still room for hope, and proof that neither of them are going to end whatever thing they have right now.

it started as usual, inviting each other to eat. but it didn't end as usual.

satomi tried to stop it, to let go, but his feelings are as heavy as those 150000 yen, wrapped in that old plastic bag, which is as transparent as he is.

and the plastic breaks and his feelings... burst.

there were some super uncharitable readings floating around twitter yesterday, like even things that are already textually disproven, and i think part of the problem is that english speaking fandom is still going off of mtl. i myself have only read a mtl + some added context from japanese speakers on bsky.

the things that changed are internal to them. they understand each other better. they're closer to being on equal footing. satomi's idea of removing kyouji's tattoo grew from a thing that would excise kyouji from his life to something that would put them on equal footing. which means standing together

they are going to keep getting together to eat, just like satomi said he wanted. and they are both looking back at each other now, both understanding more how much the other one cares about them

they are getting closer, not farther away. this is not a breakup ending; it is a hope ending. they haven't closed the distance entirely, but it's getting smaller, not bigger
