seriously though why is the trauma of women in fantasy taken only most seriously when they are teenagers or children. like i do of course understand that we as a society see harm to children as more extreme than harm to adults but sometimes it feels like authors who are men only care about a woman’s pain if it happened when she was a child. in the cosmere there’s vin, shallan davar, venli, siri, even jasnah kholin whose defining trauma seemingly happened in her childhood even if we don’t know the details. all these characters are either children or teenagers when some sort of traumatic event happens to them, usually abuse or sexual assault related. (even if it is never depicted on page vin and siri both are in situations that imply possible assault) beyond the cosmere i immediately think of game of thrones; of sansa and daenerys especially. like is the assumption that we only care about a damaged woman if the damage happened to her as a child? is it because the girl child in distress is the most tragic figure possible?

I don’t think it’s exclusive. One of the most horrifying things he has written is Tindwyl’s backstory, which is so incredibly grim, although I think her trauma probably did start at a young age. Navani’s domestic abuse at the hands of Gavilar is similar to me. Maybe these are just exceptions that prove the rule though.

Need to finish the outline (it is like an urban mystery with fight scenes - think like Wax and Wayne but on post WAT/theoretically post SLA 10 Nalthis) because I can’t just have Vivenna be like “you’re the bad guy!” immediately and because I need like stuff to happen to fit the relationship developing but I do think I’m ready to start properly drafting this time.

Will see if I can reuse some of the ending from a previous draft too. It is going to be a lot more a Vivenna fic than a Vivasher fic.

I am incapable of writing a story starting at chapter one I have to either do the ending or the relationship first.

Given it’s Viv and Vasher it’s probably Wax and Wax rather than Wax and Wayne.
