Pele - Goddess of Volcanoes, Coming Soon in Patch 5.14

Pele - A Closer Look

Pele is the goddess of Fire, of Dance and Wind, and most importantly, Volcanoes. She is highly regarded in Hawaiian culture, and often referred to as Madame Pele out of respect.

To make a female, fiery, magma, rogue we focused on a few key elements. Light armor that allowed her to be flexible incorporated lava rock, and had clear Hawaiian influence. Accent pieces like symbols and her headdress to feature her culture even more. And finally, Magma blades to solidify her role and theme.

We revealed her early concept to the community and we got a lot of feedback. Many people were extremely positive about her visual design but her culture and lore elements weren’t quite what some of the community was expecting. We shared this feedback with the art team and checked it against our personal goals for Pele and made a few changes.

Removed her magma boots for bare feet

Added Hawaiian inspired tattoos

Mader her headdress more floral in shape

Adjusted her arm bands

Her unique gameplay elements are:

Abilities that scale in new ways, gaining additional strength per rank rather than just damage increases.

A movement ability that is “fuel based” not cooldown based

A non-ultimate ability that has multiple charges (like Agni ult)

New AoE damage area shape, concentric circles

Pele’s kit is quite explosive. As would be expected with an Assassin. She is designed to close in on enemies and then, after a series of fiery attacks, leave them as smoldering ashes around her. Pele can hurl magma at enemies from afar, but her true nature as a volcano goddess comes from her explosive AoE abilities that scorch enemies nearby. She can also imbue her blades through her passive or her ultimate to cut enemies down while her abilities recover.

Her movement ability is unlike any other in SMITE and has some very interesting applications for an Assassin. It makes her ganks feel different from other junglers, and it gives her more flexibility to use the ability on the approach or the escape, or split it 50/50, which a normal dash or leap can not do.

Pele is eager to join the battleground of the gods. After laying dormant for so long the time has finally come for the 3rd new pantheon of Season 5 to arrive!

Guardian is most likely but she has potential to be a mage

Lore wise a mage would probably be the best fit. By her associatations she could be a guardian, but her nature doesnt really did that role, not that hi rez will worry about that. I can honestly see them making her a warrior maybe?

I saw a very interesting concept for a unique aura guardian that would fit her a lot honestly, she would be a back line guardian

I Vaguely remember making a stance switching guardian kit for her too, i might update that in light of her announcement

We bash Hi Rez for its smite skins because theres been very little variety since ajax and Chuk became team leads, were sick of getting Void, tentacle pentagram skins every other patch and mechas, annoying kawaii/chibi and angels being the other skins

Each skin ideally comes with a set of 5. So, in theory, you could have a full team of 5 wearing skins from that theme. They did it with the Grim skins. They did it with the pirate skins. Bitching about them trying to finish a set of 5 like they’ve been doing doesnt make any sense. Now if it was constructive in any way shape or form, like “hey maybe put some spacing between the types of skins”, I could see where you all are coming from but when the root of all the belly aching is “these skins are similar blah blah blah” they’re??? Suppsoed to be??? So they can finish the set of 5???

First off, i never said the set was a balanced team. The DJ set has two fucking mages. Also, before you pat yourself on the back, actually put the fucking skins that are actually part of a set together instead of pulling skins outta your ass. Just because a skin is a robot skin doesnt make it part of the “mech” set Hi Rez is going for and etc. Nobody’s comming anyone’s “wig”, Im literally stating facts and you come back by picking every damn skin in the game and grouping it into a bunch of big ass incorrect groups.

I didnt say anything about the DJ set because its not even finished and theyres nothing like it in smite and all the skins in it have their own Identitys and can be viewed as solo skins just as easily as they can be considered part of a set, so its actually good and not overdone. and i didnt just pick anything that went Beep boop because some of them skins dont look like typical robots, my criteria for each of them was Abyssal- Eldritch Abomination or Human who is linked to Eldritch Abominations Demonic- Pentagrams, rituals and general demonic appearance as well as the word demon being in the name. Mecha (More aptly called Robot): Skins that are mostly or completally robotic in nature, without explicitly or likely being a suit (Such is the case with Ragnarok Force X Thor and Enforcer Athena)

Ill admit the grim event skins were questionable seeing as except for Wraith and Horsemen they're more cyborg than Mecha/robots but since they all have similar aesthetic i couldn't just keep two of them in their and not the others, but the Egyptian even skins are absolutely mecha, maybe it would have been better to clarify by Mecha i mean “Robot” but that's in the past, and Digimir is absolutely in that class, Robot is a very vague theme but we've gotten most of the skins in those lists with the last season (from the tail end of S2 to now) so regardless of how dumb you think i am, i am the one who is right

Part of me is hoping that the new map and introduction of 3 new Pantheons (which included Pele I am *shook*) is the signal of a new direction Smite is taking both development wise and artwise. Really cool designs and kits are muddied through terrible overall choices and company presentation. Like I really really want to like Smite but HiRez seems so unprofessional and half-baked compared to other companies. If this 3 pantheon thing is pulled off well, I'd love to main Smite. Fingers crossed.

I’m literally quoting Ajax live, quote Fish, “his ultimate will physically lift enemies into the air,” to which Ajax interjected, “a form of CC new to smite” which infers that they can receive damage while aloft into the air, which is not a banish, which makes persons untargetable.

I did not know that, I'm not watching the stream so I just assumed it was a banish, we really need more of those tbh
