Bio:

Born on December 5th, 1994, in Aurora Bay, Kyson Sol was the only child of Mateus and Camila Sol. His father was a high school gym teacher and his mother was a stay at home mom. To say it was a loving home, that would be a lie. 

Mateus valued winning, not just in sports, but in everything: grades, reputation, and status. Kyson had little interest in sports. His grades on the other hand, were slightly above average. Never enough to impress his father.  

Camila on the other hand, was rarely present.  Even when she was physically there, her attention was usually elsewhere - typically herself. 

When Kyson was fourteen, Camila announced she was pregnant. For once, he felt something close to excitement. The day his mother brought his baby brother home, he fell in love. Kyson made a promise to himself he’d never let anything bad happen to his baby brother. 

Whenever Sol family attended Mateus games, as he was a coach for the high school sports teams. They acted like a perfect family. Though if you really paid attention you might be able to see through the facade. 

At seventeen, Kyson was kicked out of the Sol household. He was very lucky to have good friends who let him couch surf. When people asked why he got kicked out, Kyson never gave a straight answer. He would joke, “my parents said my vegan diet is very expensive.” The truth was his father found him in bed with a guy in his class and didn’t approve. 

If Kyson didn’t have a little brother who he loved more than anything he would have left town for college. But he wanted to make sure his younger brother had a good role model to look up to. So he went to the local community college and got a degree in education. 

Kyson landed a job at the high school where he’s a high school history teacher. This is the same high school where his father taught. Though they were never teachers at the same time. 

Kyson is the type of person who’s very kind. He’ll listen very well, and is very understanding. Even though, he has a tendency to be cryptic and guarded. People think they know Kyson, but they really don’t. 

Headcanons: 

Kyson’s first language is Portuguese 

He’s allergic to gelatin - which is why he’s vegan. It’s the safest diet for him to eat. 

Kyson has been self sufficient for a long time. 

Kyson is also a parental figure to his brother. He is happy their parents are doing a slightly better job at taking care of him. He just doesn’t trust them.

He’s not sure why he’s nice to his parents even though they dont deserve any kindness from him. It’s why he calls his parents by their first name.

His mother made it to the 1% of a multi level marking scheme. Kyson tried to tell his mother to stop scamming people but she didn’t listen. Kyson is so embarrassed by this. He suspects a lot of people in Aurora Bay have been hit up with a “hey hun” message before.

He’s only been in one relationship. Has had a few hook ups. He just can’t let his guard down enough. 

His younger brother is in his history class. His own father went to the school to ask him to change the class but that didn’t happen. 

Since his brother is in his class, the students have called him by his first name. Kyson has tried to shut it down, though the high schoolers don’t listen. 

If he wasn’t a teacher, Kyson would be a chef

"Hey!"

Paxton perks up when the bell at the front door of Comic Emporium rings. Fortunately for him, a store that has no perishable stock could open so soon after the power came back up in town, and he can try and scramble for as many shifts as possible. Especially after he'd gone home from Syrena's to find the back porch sliding glass door of his how smashed, and a few things missing.

House insurance covers enough, but Pax feels bad for not being there like he promised his parents.

"What brings you in? Looking for anything specific, or just paying me a visit?"

Kyson hadn’t visited the store, like ever, but Paxton was the guy he was looking for. As a teacher and an after school club monitor, he wanted to find new resources for the club. He’d been coming up short on all fronts, and Paxton seemed like his last hope.

You’ll just have to guess which one it is.”

Kyson rolled his eyes, “shut up.” He laughed, playfully nudging his friend. “I’m doing alright. I’ve been trying to do some work.” He shrugged. Even during a blackout he had to carve out some time to grade papers. Though his workload felt endless. “What about you?” Kyson laughed, softly. “It does, but we’ll manage, right?”

Kyson was happy he hadn’t run into those people yet. There was a time when he was used to not being so addicted to his screen. Those days are long gone. “It’s very nice to connect.” He agreed.

"Isn't it nice the tourists have gone home?" The beach looks emptier post-black out as well, with everyone inside and enjoying their air conditioning over finding relief in the ocean water.

Maverick is careful to not kick sand on the blanket when he joins Kyson, criss-crossing his legs and handing over a cardboard to-go container.

"Don't worry, it's not falafel."

A dish that's way too overdone as the 'vegan option', Maverick would argue, as he does with fruit-based sorbets over the option for a dary-free chocolate or vanilla in an iced cream shop. "The spot up there does vegan Strombolis. Not sure what a Stromboli is, but I'm about to find out. Can't remember which one's broccoli and which one's pepperoni, but figure we can share if you don't like the one you have."

As much as Kyson loved having tourists around, he was secretly glad they were gone. “I’m not going to miss them.” He laughed.

That meant Kyson was able to find an ideal spot on the beach. He laid out on the blanket, glancing over to Maverick who just joined him on the blanket. He held the to go container as Maverick handed it over.

Kyson was relieved it wasn’t falafel. He tried so hard to like it, but every time he ate it he disliked the food more.

“You’ve never had a Stromboli?” Kyson raised a brow. “Dude, they are like the best.” He popped opened the to go container. “That just means you get to pick first.”

I was thinking of going to the high school.” Kyson admitted. “I didn’t want to run into any of my students. I’m not going to lie, I’m worried they’d want assistance with assignments or try and gossip with me.” As much as Kyson cared for his students he did want to set boundaries with them. “I don’t want to think about that right now.” He groaned. “That’s why you look so familiar. We are.”
