“I’m trying to handle the shitstorm but the shitstorm keeps handling me.”
“I know how that goes.”

“You checked them out?” Brand wondered if they had been planning this for awhile or if they meant that they had just checked the stores out for themself. Xe wasn’t sure how bright and colorful was going to be good for their aesthetic but at the same time xe didn’t care enough to argue with them. Besides, Letha looked almost happy talking about it.
“Okay.” Xe nodded, gesturing for them to lead the way.
"I have. I wanted to get clothes for myself, and I saw stuff I think you could look good in. It worked out,” they said, explaining their position there. They needed clothes for the new host, the size difference was just off so much that they needed everything new. A pain in the ass of finding a new host. If only Brand found one the same size.
Letha led xem to the store, pulling xem by xyr arm. “Thanks for spending time with me. I feel more protected with you.”
emilyypark:
“A human killed your host, do you really think I’m afraid of you?”
“Maybe it’s all a ruse. You never know.”

Brand looked ahead as they pulled away, xyr arms folding across xyr chest instead now. Being sensitive was not a strong suit for xem.
“Fine. You figure it out. I don’t care.” Xe was being completely honest. Clothes meant nothing to xem. The dark clothes were just an easy default that xe had resorted to for lack of knowing or caring otherwise.
Letha smiled when xe accepted defeat, as uncaring as the defeat was.
“There are some small shops on the pier. They're still open, I checked them out. We can get you something bright and colorful, something that’ll be great for your whole aesthetic,” they said, starting to come out of their shell again.
emilyypark:
“What’re you gonna do if I don’t?”
“Something, clearly.”

Brand frowned, wondering if Letha had been talking to that nurse from the hospital. “Things are easy for me now.” Xe was dismissive, forgetting to take into account what Letha had been through and how it was probably factoring into this conversation. “A riot would be a joke.” Xe assured them.
Letha pulled away from xem when xe said that things were easy, that a riot would be a joke. Xe didn’t understand their pain. How they were scared that things would get harder for them.
“Then for me? If you’re so confident,” they said, looking xem over.

“One time I almost got stuck there.”
“Oh, sounds terrifying.”

Brand shook xyr head, throwing a thin arm around Letha’s shoulders as xe noticed them lowering their voice. “I don’t need or want people to like me. I don’t want to be inviting either. I’m not trying to win the affection of the hospital staff.”
Letha leaned into xem as xe wrapped an arm around them, trying to just ignore how clammy xe felt compared to others. To humans.
"It just might make things easier for you. For all of us," they replied. "If people see the head demons being actually nice, then — shit. I don't know. Maybe they'd be less willing to riot. You get that, right? It'd make it easier for you." In reality, all they wanted was for humans to not want to kill them again — or hurt anyone that they cared about. Leklon, Diederich, even Brand. They just didn't want that to happen again.

Not much made Brand uneasy anymore. Xe had been alive such a long time and there was a sense of utter confidence about them. Xe knew exactly what they were about, fearless in that lack of uncertainty. Xe knew that xe wasn’t invincible but xe also didn’t doubt where the limits stood, comfortable in xyr environment.
Xe looked over at Letha as they spoke, xyr eyes narrowing at them. “Who cares?” Xe asked, already knowing the answer to that question. Letha cared.
Letha frowned when xe questioned them.
“I do. You’d be so much more inviting,” they said, starting to quiet their voice as they didn’t want to offend xem. “You might make people like you more if you were happier. Or happier looking. It could be helpful to your whole everything at the hospital.”

Letha stayed close to Brand as they walked together, feeling the protection of that fallen angel despite everything going on. They knew people knew about xem being a demon, but not them — yet. It might’ve been risky, but they really thought that Brand wouldn’t let anything happen to them if it came down to it. Xe was even willing to vouch for them to Lucifer himself, something even riskier than dealing with humans.
“You really need an update to your whole wardrobe, Brandy,” they said, nudging at xyr side. “You dress all doom and gloom all the time. It’s too spooky.”
diederich-pawlitzki:
“I wouldn’t go that far.”
Letha looked at him, not really enjoying the fact that he wasn’t going to promise. “Thresh, baby. Please.”
here-is-brand:
“You’ll never be happy so long as you won’t accept what you are.”
“I feel happier when I’m around you, at least.”
diederich-pawlitzki:
“I’m not going to do anything stupid.”
“Do you promise?”
diederich-pawlitzki:
“At least not alone.”
“Or at all. I mean it, Thresh.”
diederich-pawlitzki:
“You and Leklon both… We just need to stick together.”
“And not do anything reckless.”
emilyypark:
“I’m being honest, that’s all.”
“Aren’t you sweet? Keep that honesty away from me.”
emilyypark:
“No, and that’s a good thing. It means I’m smart.”
“Whatever happened, I imagine you brought it on yourself.”
“Aren’t you Miss Sunshine?”
