[ A LITTLE SCORPION STORY ]
Woke up to ~5a.m because I wanted so hard to show you and to talk about Eddie, my lovely 12cm baby.
It’s more than 1 year she is in my life, and after to be hidden since several weeks, she go out from her hiding place because miss is hungry ^^.
Eddie is a (teen?) Pandinus Emperator (Emperor Scorpion), one of the most largest scorpion in the world.
Emperor scorpion is a protected species, illegal in several countries (but not mine) and I was waiting since a lot of months to decide what kind of pet will be match with my lifestyle (and I had a ~20 gallon tank found in a street), so I wanted to adopt A BIG arthropod.
But each time they were illegal in my country.
Then after a lot of researches, I had decided to turn into scorpion, and they “said” Asian forest scorpions and Emperor scorpions are good to beginner keeper.
When I came to the pet store, they had 1 Emperor, alone in a very small tank, with just substrat, a little hiding place, and one plastic plant. It was sad to look.
When the seller took her to show me how she was, I was shocked to see he tooks her by her tail (Fact: The scorpion tail is their abdomen, it’s like someone catch you by your belly) and she was not Happy at all and not “docile”.
I thought “Is it a good idea to adopt her? She looks hostile“
But I did. And I don’t regret at all. She is one of this precious gifts in my life 🖤.
Now, she has a big tank with natural landscape to express herself, to dig, to climb, with a little sand space where I can check if she go out or not. (It is a half humid and half dry terrarium)
I spent a lot of time observing her, learning to understand her.
To know her personality, and with patience she let me see things you can't see on youtube videos or others keepers can see.
I can't express in few words how fascinating and precious to me she is.
It's like to have a prehistorical transformer knigh in your house.
And I didn’t expected how goofy, gentle touch, explorer, and picky she is.
Sometime I can have Eddie on my hand when she want.
I am very delicate and extremely patient when I interact with her.
About handling, I work with her, not inverse. I adapt to her because I want her life is the least stressful..
The sad part of this story, the seller said to me she was born in nature not by a breeder.
It’s why she is really stressed easily, despite the fact she is shy and associal.
I am an arthropods lover and savior. Each time I can save a tiny life, I do.
Mainly a lot of spiders.
One day I spent 30mn to save a daddy longlegs (cellar spider) that i had accidently hurted with hot water when I was washing my dishes (And it was a success!), or I used a toothbrush to help a jumping spider with its legs stucked in a bunch of dust.
But the most epic story was about a caterpillar that I had found during winter and turned into butterfly during winter: I challenged myself to release the butterfly in a big florist shop. It was a quest where this butterfly took cars and took train (Yup, I took train with my little butterfly friend).
A 3 days adventure to save a butterfly. My dad said I am crazy even if he helped me (He is an animal lover too, so I keep this part from him)
The butterfly was released at the florist store :).
Even if i know the butterfly would die few time after, i did it, and it’s the most important thing to me. It was a better place for him.
Well... maybe I will share sometime pictures/vidéos of my creepy-cute baby here ^^.
