Supporting Jamaica Through Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Caribbean.
The storm has brought catastrophic rainfall, flash flooding, landslides, and sustained winds nearing 300 kilometres per hour.
Communities across the island are facing severe damage to homes, roads, power lines, and communications infrastructure.
The Government of Jamaica has declared a state of emergency in several parishes. Citizens are being urged to remain indoors, avoid flooded areas, and conserve essential resources where possible.
Access to parts of the country remains limited as relief teams work to clear debris, restore power, and deliver food, water, and medical aid.
