Definitely one of the most challenging characters I've ever had to draw. 💀

I've had an idea for a while now about a modern AU, and as surprising as it may seem, Peisistratus is one of the characters that interests me the most lately.

But hey, before I explain all the concept, here’s the first charadesign !

I don’t know why but Scylla is suddenly my new obsession. I would draw her in a monster version (and not only as a woman) so I guess that the character will be back soon 🧍‍♀️

I just post this doodle here, but the version will evolve for sure

Trying to illustrate Telemarketing

For the mood, it’s more like « I’ve a sharped tongue and I’ll won’t hesitate to use it » like father like son but I think he learn a lot from his mother

I drew more of a modern au for a fanfic I’m currently working on, but I’m waiting to develop it a little more I think. In the meantime, I have an animatic in progress of Ocean in my eyes’ cut song (idk why but god I LOVE this song)

OH MY GOD I exactly had the same vision when I was reading the second song last summer 😭I even drew it in the margin

I wrote that I can’t help but imagine Odysseus running around with his stick to convince everyone with so much passion 🤣

Fun fact, I love how he introduce him as the « Telemachus’ father » when two pages later he hits Thersite. Like, he’s not just Odysseus.

Got a philosophy class yesterday and I still think about this text

Translation :

- The cult of appearances -

"The richness of the adornment can announce an opulent man and his elegance a man of taste; the healthy and robust man recognizes himself in other marks: it is under the rustic habit of a plowman, and not under the gilding of a courtier, that we will find the strength and vigor of the body. The good man is an athlete who likes to fight naked: he despises all these vile ornaments that would hinder the use of his forces, and most of which were invented only to hide some deformity. "

I’ve always valued this vision of the universe of the Captive Prince : the way in which individuals and relationships are established between the characters and which are very different between the two kingdoms.

The two visions of society that Rousseau explains make sense for Damen and Laurent:

- The healthy and robust man, his strength and vigor (I will not talk about the passage on the athlete who fights naked) are Damen's own physical characteristics throughout history. He is also, according to his origins, seen as a frank, sincere person who doesn’t care about superficial appearance and prefers honesty and trust born in adversity and cohesion.

- Laurent is, from Damen's point of view and at the beginning of the story, considered as a fake person, who never reveals anything of what he thinks. Even if he rejects any superfluous ornamentation and can speak in a raw and verbally "unworthy" way of his rank, Damen (and I at first reading) quickly relegated him to the rank of those sneaky vipers of Vere, good only at betraying and hiding behind words to serve their interests.

These two portraits are well drawn from the beginning and oppose each other in almost everything. I find it interesting to find them in a relatively old text that deals with appearance and how we present ourselves to others. The author then explains that these false and hypocritical behaviors create problems more than they solve, especially because humans are more likely to want to harm themselves in secret. We spread rumors and lies, we talk behind someone's back, we disguise our insults behind a smile...

Much easier than facing disapproval in front of the other in the eyes. 👀

And that's also why I love this book. All the solutions given to solve the main problems are very varied and correspond perfectly to the characters who propose them. It was just a little reflection like that, but this echo really reminded me of Damen and Laurent.

Idk if what I’m saying is clear, but I just wanted to share this text that remind me this wonderful book a lot <3
