The simple truth is that they do not care. Max said it perfectly: “not my problem”. It’s not his problem, it doesn’t bother him, so therefore he doesn’t care. I think from the moment they started it we all knew the ‘We Race As One’ campaign was a lie. It’s not possible to race ‘as one’ if only half of the drivers participate. It’s not possible to ‘end racism’ if you’re not actively taking steps to do that. It’s not possible to ‘strive for equality’ if you’re still going to race in countries with questionable human rights. It’s almost as if they’re telling us “we have a black man and we’re letting him win. Isn’t that enough?”  They are not looking into creating diversity in the sport because that will not earn them money. They are not funding young drivers who do not have the same opportunities as others because that will not earn them money. Yet they will lower the amount of super license points a driver has to have once a less successful driver shows them a bit of money.

These are rich white men maintaining a system in which rich white men always come out on top. Max doesn’t care, just like a lot drivers will not care. And we eat it up every single time, defend them every single time.
