Y'know, I'm realizing that it's actually kinda irksome when people disregard the Headspace versions of Kel, Hero, and Aubrey when analyzing them.

Are they the real versions?

No. They are absolutely fake.

But are they accurate representations of them?

Yes.

They have to be.

Otherwise, how else are we supposed to know what Aubrey, Kel, and Hero were like before Mari's death? How else are we supposed to know how the Incident dramatically changed the friend group?The Headspace versions of Kel, Aubrey, and Hero ARE THEM, simply frozen in time.

It's easy to tell how it changed. It's a lot more effective to SHOW the change. Simply telling may have been informative. But showing how Aubrey is very cheerful in Headspace, and suddenly NOT in the real world? Dramatically more effective, it invests the player, makes them wonder what the heck could've happened to make Aubrey behave this way. The context is the storytelling.

This applies to the Backstage versions of Aubrey, Kel, and Hero as well; the versions of them you meet before facing Omori. They're fake, yes. But also completely accurate representations of them. They're not Sunny telling himself what he wants to hear, or Sunny lying to himself. They are Sunny's experiences with his aged up friends made manifest, telling him what they would actually say if they were in that position. In all but physical form they are real.

OMORI is a game with much symbolism. In stories like this, things aren't included on accident. In stories like this, things are deliberately included. One simply needs to ask themselves why.

I'm glad someone brought this up!

I've always heard people say that the Headspace versions of Sunny's friends are exaggerated and not completely accurate...and thats not really true, especially when it comes to Mari. Thats how Sunny remembers his sister acting!

And, I mean...the Memory Lane scenes kind of prove this...in those scenes the friend group are very similar to their Headspace selves, because, thats how they were!

It certainly helps us understand how each of them changed after the incident, we wouldn't have known otherwise if they hadn't showed us! Storytelling at its finest!
