Me, before I saw this: old timey dancing in cartoons has to be over-exaggerated for effect

Me, now: old timey dancing in cartoons had to be toned down to promote a sense of realism because they were too good at it

One thing to note, both of the scenes here are continuous, no cuts. Which means they did all that in one take, without pulling in stunt doubles, or and without using trickery to make the moves look better.

Now, it's not unheard of to do that, Gene Kelly famously required it for at least some of his scenes, but it speaks to a level of quality from the performers that plenty of people cannot reach.
