HEY NORTH HEMISPHERE, How was the concept of Boris' dream created??
Good question!!! I assume this is based on the video i posted on my tiktok story referencing boris's nightmare lol
I don't think i've seen anyone point this out but We wanted to sorta reflect the ghosts of a christmas carol!
But most importantly: I got to be surreal :3
I love surrealism i think you all can tell. Its a main factor into a lot of my promotional patreon arts and will continue to be one in all of my art going forward. Its something i genuinely love to do and the dream sequences just allowed me to go wild
I came up with the fish symbolism in Mugman's dream, Boris's dream was drawn and written by me, and finally cuphead's dream was conceptualized and written by me and Fly masterfully drew it out
Boris's dream was tricky bc we didn't wanna reveal much about his character yet bc his chapter hasn't arrived. We wanted to focus on what the readers knew and just basically confirm/hammer in his mental state. He's conflicted and scared and questioning everything.
He has no idea whats going on and is frustrated that this all seems so out of his depth. He wanted to do this for his brother, but now he literally can't continue this journey without his brother AND not one but TWO hitmen. One of which he killed and can't forgive himself for.
In astro's reconciliation, the readers can actually see a nice moment between Boris and Bendy. We realized that a lot of people believe that bendy and boris have always had a tumultuous brother-bond but that couldn't be further from the truth. They love each other and we wanted to show the different ways in which they showed they cared.
The conceptualization of boris's dream was much easier in hindsight considering we're still keeping his past under wraps. I wanted to hint at his old job and what he used to do. Its where he found peace, comfort in routine.
That breaks when he's literally hit by the very things that haunt him. The gun, the conductor, cuphead's face, mugman's words, his cowardice, feeling powerless to protect the person he loves the most, and LITERALLY slipping through his fingers.
