The tumblr experience is having politics that make the most left leaning progressive you know irl blush and then logging on here and getting called a bootlicker fascist because you said that you dont think we should make the reign of terror happen again
Me irl: the problem isnt taxes, youre thinking too small. The problem is that the federal government isnt taxing the right people the right amount. Theyre taking all our extra cash in our measly little wealth bracket and letting the billionaires hang on to more money than they can ever spend in a lifetime. The only way anybody gets a single billion is either through exploitation or inheriting it from someone else who did the exploitation, nobody who has that kind of money earned it legitimately. Not only do we need to strip that back into social safety nets for those of us theyre bleeding dry instead, but they need to establish hard laws and regulations to prevent that kind of exploitation from happening in the first place!
My coworkers: man, youre a real red-card commie, aren’t you? You gonna start telling us to vote NDP and that healtcare isnt a scam too? Jesus christ go give someone else your goddamn revolution pamphlets, lenin.
Me on tumblr: while i appreciate the animosity towards billionaires, i dont think literally dragging a guillotine into the streets and beheading people as a public spectacle is going to actually solve the problems inherent in the system considering the french already tried that and it didnt work out well for them. Also i dont think anybody has the right to decide who lives and who dies, im pretty anti death penalt-
Tumblr users: how does that boot taste, fascist?
Sure we’re relearning all the worst lessons of the 20th century in real time but we’re also relearning the most annoying ones
yknow, as an eastern european liberal, western leftists are a funny thing. they seem to want what you want - equal rights, no bigotry, no imperialism, you learn those things from them and you take them to heart. and then they turn around and jerk off to the empire that's been turning your country to shit just because that empire happens to hate the west. and call you a nazi for calling them out on it.
Why are you human rights so unimportant to you?
And why do you think we had no schools and hospitals before russians came?
But most importantly, why are human rights something you don't value?
Because human rights don't matter to this kind of people. Only sticking it to the evil bad west does because it makes them feel like righteous rebels.
I recognize that user as someone who also goes around being openly antisemitic, not even bothering to hide behind "antizionism". It's 'funny' how often these people are Jew-hating and USSR-loving.
"You know you don't have to side with neo nazis just because they also hate Israel"
"But...but they hate Israel and thats a good thing! Maybe they don't hate Jews, they just hate Zionists, did you ever consider that?"
Holy shit some of you really would get into a white van because you were offered candy.
It turns out that the “Nakba Survivor” who stars in Mayor Mamdani’s official NY City Hall Palestinian propaganda video yesterday, is literally a “European settler”.
In the late 19th century, Muslim Bosnians (including Inea’s grandparents), fled Bosnia to Ottoman Syria, after Austria-Hungary took control of Bosnia.
They feared that the Christians would seek revenge on Muslims after centuries of mistreatment by them.
The family then moved to Tulkarem which after 1948 was under Jordanian control, not Israeli. So there was no “nakba” there.
Because the Jewish population developed Jerusalem’s medical care under the British mandate, Inea herself was born in Jerusalem but the family remained in Tulkarem.
In the 1930’s, Inea’s father was offered a Job in England, he returned to Mandatory Palestine after a few years, but in 1948 they decided to move back to England.
They were not expelled, and no one forced them to move to England. In any case, Tulkarem, and the old city of Jerusalem remained under Jordanian Arab control. No Arabs were forced to leave from Tulkarem in 1948.
So in summary, this is a European with no strong roots in the land of Israel, whose family made the decision to immigrate back to the continent of their grandparents instead of remaining under Arab control in what was part of Jordan after 1948.
Furthermore the “visit Palestine” poster on Inea’s wall which is featured in the video is not a Palestinian Arab poster as Mayor Mamdani’s video implies. It is a Zionist poster designed and drawn by the Jewish artist Franz Kraus to encourage Jewish tourism to the holy land.

If this were an Israeli, "antizionists" would take one look at her and call her a white woman.

Damn with how pro-pals talk one would think everyone except Jewish people are indigenous to the southern Levant.
another thing antisemites aren’t allowed to have: analog synthesis.
defying stereotypes one failed business at a time 🫡
I think I've said this before, but there's one thing that's become extremely apparent to me from the last two and a half years of dealing with Western Leftist Jew-Hate.
Specifically, a tremendous amount of the assumptions, conclusions, and general arguments made by them make much more sense if they--implicitly or explicitly--believe that:
there was a break of continuity, both in religious practice and ethnic descent, between modern Rabbinic Judaism and Second Temple Judaism.
that modern Rabbinic Judaism is a modern, post-Reformation/Enlightenment reconstruction of an extinct religious tradition composed of post-Christian converts (akin to neo-pagans)
the sole group who can claim ethnic descent from the Second Temple-era Jews are Palestinians.
There's a lot of cross-pollination with Khazar Theory, obviously, in there, but it stands on its own to at least some extent.
Some of these are just utterly daft and show not even the slightest knowledge of Jewish history.
That's the point, really. They have no knowledge of Jewish history, and the propaganda that they're fed from Islamist and Post-Soviet sources aims to fill that gap with misinformation. This is partially the fault of their schooling, as Western educational systems tend to... gloss over or outright ignore Jewish history between the Crucifixion and the Holocaust, with maybe a mention during the Crusades, but, due to discomfort, guilt, lack of priority, or ideological shift in focus in their education, most of them have zero knowledge of Jewish history as a result. So when they're fed this pile of crap that "Jews are all Europeans and the actual descendants of the ancient Israelites are the Palestinians", they have no existing knowledge base to contradict that.
Most people did not get taught about the Jews entering diaspora. We did get *some* discussion of antisemitism...in AP European History, so college level courses in high school. I really doubt it got taught properly to anyone else.
To most people with a US education, in my experience, Jews are 'that European minority that got Holocaust'd'.
That's no excuse for not learning later in life, but a lot of people are, frankly, not very curious or inclined to learn.
And the idea of us lasting so LONG in Diaspora is just inconceivable to them. The idea that we've maintained an identity since before the Saxons met the Anglos, or the Gauls became the French... it just Does Not Compute to them.
Honestly there are days it doesn’t compute to me either. Is there any other ethnicity that survived with such cohesion and continuity after being forced to be dispersed in such a way?

Christian Dior has fired designer John Galliano after a video that appears to show the designer spewing anti-Semitic remarks surfaced online
British fashion designer John Galliano is given two suspended fines totalling 6,000 euros (£5,250) for anti-Semitic rants in a Paris restaur
it’s fascinating how this is always societally forgivable. Galliano, Kanye, Mel Gibson, they’ve all been welcomed back into the fold of their industries. interesting.
Someone posted on my school’s yikyak that “spiritually Israeli” sounds close to a dog whistle, and someone responded to them “no it’s not, it just means Jewish” as in it’s not a dog whistle. I love that this is where we’re at now
.
in your impossible quest to become the 'best person' some of yall have completely forgotten to be just a plain good person
the last few years have been horrific with the normalization of violent antisemitism, but the response to Noam Bettan gives me a small glimmer of hope. not just that a lot of people like it. but the simple fact that I’m finally seeing comment sections about it that aren’t absolutely overrun with awful people being awful.
idk if it’s improved moderation, algorithms getting better at telling the difference between “you’re engaging with this to report it/correct it” & “you’re engaging with this thing because you want to see more of it”, the waning popularity of a fad, or people finally finding their voice to speak up (maybe a combination of all the above), but there’s been a small shift.
I’m sure we’ll continue to be facing down hatred for a long time still. I don’t think we can go back to the way things were before. but there’s some small bit of hope that things can be different
I think people need to understand that everyone has to unlearn misogynistic behaviors and thinking patterns. Cis women and trans women and cis men and trans men and anyone who doesn’t fall under those categories are all completely capable of being misogynistic and actively hurtful to women. Trans men are included in this, obviously, but when you only call for trans men to unlearn this mindset, you are no longer being progressive and fair. You are singling out a minority.
it pisses me off to see cis women saying 'trans women are misogynistic because they were raised as men' and trans women replying 'no we aren't because no we weren't!' and i'm sitting there staring at the camera like it's the office. because like women are ALL raised to be just as misogynistic as men. it's a notable goddamn feature of the patriarchy.
like if you are marginalized it is in your own self-interest to interrogate and deconstruct the cultural narratives that position you as subnormal. this is what starts a lot of queer people on wanting to reform the world into something more compassionate and egalitarian.
but it's not the marginalization that makes you any more or less ethical than anyone else. it's the work. you gotta do the actual work.
I feel like part of the problem is a really popular misunderstanding of bigotry.
Misogyny is not just prejudice experienced by a woman. It is not simply something that happens TO a woman. It has nothing to do with the woman. It’s about the misogynist.
Bigotry is not determined or defined by the target of that bigotry. The bigotry is stored in the bigot.
Misogynists will be misogynistic towards any person they associate with femininity, including cisgender men.
When a misogynist cis man tears another man down for liking something he thinks is girly, he is still being misogynistic.
A cis male coach telling his cis male student he runs like a girl is being misogynistic.
A cis woman punishing her son for wanting a “girl” toy or policing her boyfriend’s hygiene habits and interests for anything she considers emasculating, is being misogynistic!
When a woman gets in a car accident and is injured more severely because the safety testing on that car was only done using crash test dummies and models based on men, she’s experiencing misogyny.
When the medication she takes for her injuries doesn’t work right or has unexpected side effects because it was only tested on men, she’s experiencing misogyny.
When the tools she uses at work that are the wrong shape for her hands, and the jumpsuit that’s part of her uniform which she has to take off completely to use the bathroom, and all the spaces she moves through and everything within them are designed with the assumption that an average male body is the only body that matters— she is experiencing misogyny.
Misogyny is the belief that women are inherently inferior, and the systems and institutions built around that belief. It can be experienced by anyone, and anyone is capable of having misogynistic beliefs and doing misogynistic things.
Bigotry is not about the target. It’s about the bigot, and what the bigot believes, and the way those bigoted beliefs have shaped our world.
I don’t care what race gender or sexuality you are, you were raised with racist, sexist, homophobic beliefs. Because it’s literally impossible not to be.
And the harder you try to cling to the idea that misogyny is something that happens TO women, rather than something coming FROM misogynists, the more blind you’ll be to your own misogynistic beliefs, and all the ways everything in our society is a product of or directly reinforces those beliefs.
Israel being runner up at Eurovision again, even after the rule change to prevent the so-called “rigging” they were supposedly doing just shows how bullshit & how much of a cope the accusation was in the first place.
Israeli contestants keep succeeding because Israel keeps sending wonderful talented artists with a beautiful culture, their resilience in the face of hatred & adversity is inspiring, and they keep serving fantastic songs and performances. simple as.
