Thinking about how there's this like romantic theme music in Naruto reserved for special romance moments and there's 3 cases in which it's used:

Minato & Kushina (which is where it first appears, so the theme is sometimes called "Minato saves Kushina")

Obito & Rin (makes sense, there are obvious romantic tones with their relationship)

And my absolute favorite use of it:

Wip Wednesday Thursday

I've been very stuck with writing so these wips aren't going anywhere for the moment, but I'll share a bit of Vault of Heaven Chapter 2.

A cold wind rushes by; Tobirama shivers and the little flames flicker weakly. “I should go home,” he says, but he makes no move to get up. Izuna watches him and watches him until Tobirama eventually asks, “Come with me?” Izuna agrees and together they ascend the hill towards the Senju house and climb back through the bedroom window. He lies down at Tobirama’s side, and Tobirama closes his eyes, then opens and closes them again, taking in the sight of Izuna anew each time. “Rest,” Izuna says gently as Tobirama continues tossing and turning. Tobirama turns away from him, his back presented like a silent question. Izuna lies against him, the faint impression of an embrace assuring Tobirama of his presence. He falls into a restless sleep and dreams of fire and the raging river. When he wakes the next morning, the sheets are tangled around his body and Izuna is gone once more.

And a little bit of my Hashimada Week wip which I didn't finish in time.

“Come on, let’s go up,” Hashirama says, and he throws an arm around Madara’s shoulders and leads him to the elevator. Hashirama pushes open the door to his apartment and Madara steps inside. “What the fuck? Does modeling really pay this well?” He blurts out, momentarily distracted by the sprawling apartment, the floor to ceiling windows offering a view of the city from twenty stories up. Madara walks over and rests his forehead on the glass as he looks out. “I don’t just model for your class,” Hashirama says. “I try to pick up whatever gigs I can, but I mostly model for clothing brands.” “Shit,” Madara says, turning away to look at Hashirama. “You think I could be a model?” He asks, grinning. “Show me,” Hashirama answers quietly

Hashirama is held to a higher standard in the fandom. When he makes a mistake, it's treated as a moral failure or a sign of incompetence. As if he should've prevented every future tragedy, solved political conflicts, foresee the actions of people who lived decades after him etc. etc.

Other characters' flaws are being tied to their trauma by the fandom. Their bad choices are explained, forgiven, and understood as the result of what they went through. But this happens rarely with Hashirama. His flaws are treated as intentional choices, not the result of childhood abuse or growing up in a war, being sent to kill as a child, or losing two brothers before he was even emotionally developed.

Fandom only recognizes trauma when it looks like rage, depression, violence, isolation, self-destruction. But when it looks like conflict avoidance, suddenly it isn't recognized at all. Because it doesn't look dramatic, people pretend there is no trauma.

This creates an unfair fandom narrative where Hashirama is expected to be perfect and denied the right to be traumatised at the same time. And so instead he's infantilized, oversimplified, blamed, flattened, and quite frankly boring.

A gift from the divine... I guess Madara was not even seen completely as a human by his lover, and it's a tragedy for his story that I enjoy. They are both passionate and intense, but Hashirama speaks of Madara with this "heavenly revelation" line, while Madara speaks of him as a man, an equal.

It's a devotion that goes both way, though, just wait and you'll see a role reversal soon enough :3
