Funniest part of BBCM is that Arthur is canonically not pure of heart.

Second funniest part of BBCM is that Arthur is measurably not pure of heart.

He failed the second test that Anhora gave him. He failed the test on his pride, mirroring the event that leads to his own bane: forcing Kara to either apologize or die for trying to protect her people and right Arthur’s wrongs, instead of just admitting that she was right.

Anhora had to cheat the rules in order to give Arthur a test that did not challenge his pride. This means that Arthur is only about 2/3rds pure of heart, maybe even 1/2 considering the final test was designed to be more passable.

hands down the bbc merlin version of the sword in the stone legend is the funniest possible version of it. this big dramatic scene of arthur realising his true potential and finally believing in himself as a king as his remaining subjects watch in awe, witnessing a sign that their king is destined to carry camelot to greatness, because this legendary prophecy about removing the sword from the stone has finally come to pass,

and then merlin’s in the background whispering to gaius just ‘yeah i stuck that in there like last week and made the story up on the spot. gonna use magic to make it look like arthur’s actually doing something’ SIR PLEASE

I feel for sir Leon. Sir Leon probably had respectable, noble friends. From respectable, noble backgrounds that probably did respectable, noble things. He was doing well, climbing the ranks of the knights, close to the prince in a respectable position.
